Corbeau posted:I use suppression fire all the time and love it. The problem was twofold: I went second, so I could not set up suppression before his units were on top of me (literally in melee within the first turn - Pretas are fast), and the Vector can pop up and shoot from almost anywhere to interrupt and gun down my suppression units. And since he's super-jump, there was no way aside from AD that I could get a line of fire on the drat thing during my active turn (especially with Pretas in my face and biomines covering his backfield and flanks). PanO's low willpower means you will be going second more often than not. You kind of have to figure out your list with that in mind, both in terms of completing objectives and everything else. If you are playing MO, try bringing more camo-token Order Sergeants with clear lines of fire to things. The 360 degree drone bot is great. Also a link team of order sergeants is 65 points. 72 if one has a combi. That is 13 more points than the Fusi 5-man+HMG combo, but its with religious troops and a spitfire vs the HMG.

If only Specialist Sergeants had a minelayer profile. Without that, I don't see them accomplishing much - TO is not protection against a Vector, nor is it protection against chain rifles.

Draft list - note that specialists are kind of a big deal due to round 4 scoring (the classified objectives can be more important than any of the actual killing). Congratulations on finding the one time a Seraph is a good option TAG defense for trading with Pretas and an auxbot for taking down mines make it not terrible for this match up. And you get the added bonus of gloating about winning with the Saraph. Magister Knights dodge templates on 11's or have 2 wounds for trading hits. Joan1 is pretty much as tanky as Achilles, and just as good of a shot. She also makes a pretty good honeypot as a probable lt option to bring the Pretas to her (don't make her lt). Sepulchre can play shell games with the pretas and get a free shot in. Finally, Hospitallers bring linked doctors. Linked doctors are amazing. What I'm getting at is crush him with your heavies.

I love everything about it aside from those weird arm-guards. Are they of any practical significance? Would've just preferred bare forearms otherwise. Still a kick-rear end model.

Hey guys. I was browsing Team Covenants channel today looking for some Netrunner videos and ran into this and figured I'd share it for the newer players of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T0nvUkNWxs It's a run down on breaking down bad decisions in a turn, which as we all known, are brutally unforgiving in Infinity. Steve has ran down an example and basically I thought it was a great example of recognizing where you make mistakes. It's a great video at any rate and if you haven't seen it, check it out!

No it's not. 5 minutes wasted to say "don't get fixated on destroying the enemy when you have objectives to do".

I think that making a 5 minute long video consisting on what can be said in one short sentence is a waste of time. And since TC does exactly that, I doubt I'll watch any more of their videos. But hey, don't let me stop you VVV: Hmm, maybe. Pierzak fucked around with this message at 23:08 on May 21, 2014 |

Pierzak posted:No it's not. 5 minutes wasted to say "don't get fixated on destroying the enemy when you have objectives to do". Not entirely disagreeing, but there's merit in just telling people that and showing a new player with a visual aid what that means, exactly. In that sense, there's value in the dude's video.

Flipswitch posted:And you don't think that's not a good example for newer players? What crawled up your arse and died this morning? Gigantic Caveat, I am a huge Infinity Noob who watched this video Eh, its literally a less than 5% chance he'd get crit, he had burst 2 v. burst 1. The second crit is equally unlikely. It is fairly low (less than 1% chance of occurring). He was more likely to have totally flubbed the objective rolls and not gotten any points; if you are talking a game of percentages, killing that model to eliminate 1 order and then also going for the objectives was fine. Its unlikely that he'd miss with his viral weaponry, but it was also unlikely that he'd get crit or fail the FtF roll. Spending the second order after the first, to attempt to shoot the model again, was a sunk cost fallacy in action, and he should have not done so, but its not like the original plan was bad. If you play super conservatively you'll lose to a bolder general who makes full use of his orders and puts pressure on you. I frankly would welcome discussion by players with more experience on the value of putting pressure on the enemy player and reducing his order pool vs. using your orders to gain victory points (and maybe positioning?). I play YAMS, so the objectives are frankly much easier than ITS and require less specific (more general) lists. Any thoughts?

That last point is what I try to instill in the newer players here in our club. The trick is balancing what you need to accomplish with the absolute minimum spent doing so, so you can react quickly to any changes. Granted that's a really bone and obvious statement, but it's easy to lose track of your orders spend throughout a turn if you get fixated on something. Generally, if you can take a kill without spending excessive amount of orders (I usually categorize this as 2/3+), then it's usually worth it. Otherwise, offensive positioning is often worth it where you can force the enemy into unfavourable positions to keep ahead in the objective game. It's what makes the Suppression Fire rule so strong when you can set it up correctly in the scenario game, it takes the other player X additional orders just to remove that obstacle if they have to, which can put the game pace into your favour whilst you're free to do other things. Another strength here for drop troops, which can be good at removing those threats quickly, minimizing orders spent. It's really noticeable to take advantage of in ITS because the games are that much faster than YAMS. It's all dependent on positioning, VPs and the models in question too, so there isn't any hard rules i'd say. Does that answer your question? I haven't really said anything new or special though. I haven't really had chance to play ITS in a competitive environment yet this year though because of work commitments. Hopefully in the summer I'll have some opportunities to play in actual tournaments rather than our own little league/gaming nights. That'd be swell.

BS is indeed new. FUCKIN SPACE KNIGHTS! Love those. Santiago is by far the coolest order in my opinion. The description in the book of their space combat MO is really cool and insane (single man boarding torpedoes!) Really need to start playing infinity again, but there aren't enough players around. Anyone on this site live in the West Midlands?

It looks cool, but I just can't see fielding a 5-man knight link. That's obscenely expensive and would squeeze your budget for other tools into oblivion. I'm a sucker for sword stances though. The Magister in the MO starter is my favorite pose in all of Infinity, full stop, and the new Santiago is close.

In honor of his absolutely bullshit ARO crits, I finished painting my Specialist Sergeant Sniper. Terrible lighting with a terrible phone camera, but that's all I've got for taking pictures right now. The iridescent interior cloak really doesn't come through in these shots, sadly. It was one of my experiments in blending that I think turned out well - otherwise I tend to paint for tabletop quality at most. In the vein I'm going for an imperial stormtrooper look combined with a splash of red for Dobrzyń Order colors.

Very neat. The colors work well together and the base is also very nice. I like that you also marked the field of vision on the base with red and white!

I will email you about possible timings mate. Unfortunately for my infinity life, I am out of the country for a couple things over the summer and autumn, but there will be some time off in July. Gotta say I've been painting a good amount of 40k but haven't touched infinity with no prospect of games to spur me on. Will try and change that (once I've finished another 50 or so imperial guard infantry, FML)

Make the thread seem lively guys, we're likely being watched by tons of 40k Tyranid players bummed with 7th Edition and looking for a game where gribblies have a day in the sun. So, um, I totally got trounced by a Caskuda in my last game! Thing sure was nasty!
