I was just about to ask for that - it would be very nice to have a way to open an image link in safari, say, rather than just getting the image full screen.

This part is fixed in the next version. You can long-tap image links to get the usual link menu (plus a "view image" item at the end). As for "how do I know an image is a link", that's a problem on the browser too, isn't it? Do we need to solve the problem?

It's a problem on the browser, but you can easily hover to check, and besides I don't think there's any reason we couldn't do a better job in Awful!

Maybe just something as little as: Also, I am an rear end in a top hat and have started an even better, trendy, smarter profile template. If I have down time at the in-laws this weekend I want to work on that and maybe a new screen for image viewing.

If you wait a bit and refresh does it update? Or I could be totally wrong.

2.0.8 crashes on my iPad Air every time I load it since updating. It loads, sits at a snapshot of the last thread I was browsing for about 15 seconds and then crashes.

It appears that there's a crashing bug sometimes when opening back up to the thread you were on before Awful was terminated (aka "restoring state"). If you try it a couple times it should give up on restoring and stop crashing.

Just got the bug where it doesn't tell me a thread is updated with the numbers even though it has 1-4 new posts. I can only tell because the "killed by so-and-so" tagline updates anyway. Of Course when I navigated back it had a little (1) to show me so it's inconsistent I guess,

GIF talk: viewing a page with a lot of animated GIFs on it makes hurt, even on a 5s with fast wifi. Is there appetite for doing something about this? One option is click-to-play on animated GIFs, probably means a placeholder for any image ending in .gif unless we want to do deeper webview network interposition to grab the first frame (spoiler: we probably don't). We could auto-freeze other GIFs when another was activated, which I think would make things a lot smoother, and probably save a bunch of battery. Another would be to do the load/discard thing for all images that are off-screen, which probably works as well, and would help with memory usage in the general case.

I forget what I got stuck on last time, but I didn't spend a ton of time on it. We'll have to see what happens with scrolling large-file-size images like GIFs that could blow out of the cache and take a while to reload.

When I click on a quoted person's name, it takes me to the top of the page where that quote is from and not the post itself. More specifically, it goes to the quote for a half-second, then jumps to the top of the page.

If you scroll the screen, and it is still moving, then tap to stop it, and your tap happens to be on a username, it pops up the user's info. I'm doing it a lot by accident. Did this change recently?

No, it shouldn't be a long press. There just needs to be a bit of a buffer around scrolling.

I can't long-press the first two links in this thread's OP (the ones in the s): http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3480522&perpage=40 I can tap them to navigate, and I can long-press other links on that page. Ninja: hmm, I can now sometimes, but not everywhere on the link? I'll try to figure out the pattern. Ninja encore: and sometimes when it does bring up the secondary-action sheet it doesn't have the Safari/Chrome options, just open/copy/reading-list. Did the font for the Joined text change in this update? Between that and the slightly smaller spacing between lines, it looks a lot better to me.

Yeah, that font got tweaked with the text-size work I think? It's a blur. More on the link long-press issue: it seems like the first two links on a page don't work, if they're in the first two posts. Weirdness.

May have missed this being discussed but is it intentional that the "..." And username buttons seem to be disabled in the period between a page of posts initially being displayed and loading finishing up? ( "finished" = the spinner on the status bar by the LTE icon going away) I could see how it might be handy to prevent accidental behavior if you try to hit one of the buttons while the view is jumping around, but what I keep seeing is a mostly text thread will "load" interminably, leaving me no way to use the mark-as-read or other menu accessed functionality midway down a page. I'm doing most of my browsing on a mediocre LTE connection, which is probably why I keep running into it. Latest iOS, latest Awful, iPhone 5.
