I hope if they have character DLC in SSB that they do the compatibility patch thing. I don't want the online to get split by people buying or not buying things.

This is incredibly nitpicky, but "ken" isn't strictly "fist". Instead there are several spellings (or more accurately, several different kanji characters) of ken, which can mean things like sword, fist or even dog. Thank you Tales series for this very relevant information!

If we're going to say that Pokemon is a portmanteau of "Pokemon" and "Tekken", I would assume we're talking about the ken used in "Tekken" (拳). Which can only mean "fist." And the pun in Pokken is really obvious. There's even a big billboard with a giant fist on it in the teaser.

I wouldn't count DLC as a big part of the upcoming Smash Bros., based on the director's comments about a year ago.

To be fair, that fist is the icon for Fighting-type they've been using since the beginning of the Pokemon-TCG. But yeah, considering Nintendo's current relationship with Namco, the very obvious portmanteau and that 2-second teaser, it's very safe to say this will be a Pokemon-fighting game that at the very least will borrow a lot of elements from the Tekken-series.

I wouldn't count on things that were said a year ago as an indicator of where things are at now. A year ago there was no figurine plan.

We also don't have any clue what exactly the figurines are going to do, so there's no point in acting like they're going to be DLC style things.

I would expect there to be DLC for the only two major major releases for Wii U this year. NSMBU and Pikmin were the major major releases of Wii U's first year and they both had DLC. Can't rule out Mario 3D World yet either since it's only been out for less than half a year.

are nfc figures really just little statues that unlock things in games or do they do anything else? I mean I understand why that would appeal to children and how they could make bank for the company producing them but uh... I don't know where I'm going with this, they just seem pretty dumb I guess

Basically yes, but also they are kind of like memory cards and can store stats and other information pertaining to a character across consoles and different games.

Anyone still looking for MK deals, here's one if you also want another game (...on top of Nintendo's free game), Toys R Us is doing 40% off a second game with MK.

So if they're keeping the sticker stat boosts from Brawl you could store them on the figure then immediately have your build if you went to play at a friend's house.

Brawl itself let you use it to transfer names and associated control/rumble settings, IIRC. Also, Pokémon Battle Revolution let you put teams on it.

They're pretty floaty and hard to manage long term.

Alternatively, NSMBU has the best physics of any 2D Mario game ever. You'll quickly learn how to use the spin move to influence your momentum for pinpoint accuracy.

Yeah I thought the physics were fine once I got used to them. You need a crazy amount of precision for some of the stuff in challenge mode and I never felt like I was fighting against the physics at all.

Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to pick up Tropical Freeze at a discount for a rainy day while also getting MK8.

Edit: On the other hand, I googled their release date delivery to look for reviews and I'm seeing a lot of unsatisfied customers in that regard.

If you're worried about it you could always stop by a physical Toys R Us on release day or email amazon to see if they'd match it

I bought Kirby Triple Deluxe from them online at launch when the promo gift card I had from buying Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze was about to expire and it arrived in a timely manner. Oddly enough, I was just going to get it from the local store but they had none in stock even though the website said they did. :psyduck:
