Theres also an "Ultra" setting for textures under the Display options. I get slight stuttering with it though, albeit only when I'm driving fassst. Not sure if the visual difference is worth it.

Playing in borderless window mode seems to have made my occasional stutter disappear. Also the chopper motorcycle is loving sweet.

So the consensus amongst people that got it early is that it's good? Do the main missions feel inspired at all or do they mostly consist of pretty standard open world trappings?

Sucks they won't release this with so many people with a retail copy already.

It's good but flawed (comparisons to AC1 and as watch dogs being the establishing entrance into a franchise are pretty apt). It's squarely in open world gameplay territory but with some cool environment interaction mechanics, which is basically what the 'hacking' boils down to (you push a button, a thing happens). I would say the story feels kinda unfocused and like a lot of details are being left out, characters can be flat and motivations can be a bit confusing, eg Aiden gets pissed at his family being threatened but does it to other people all the time. Dude's kind of a scumbag. Honestly even with the hacking crap put into the story, this is pretty Grand Theft Auto-ish, it's gangster stuff all the way down.

I think calling the hacking a gimmick is a bit reductive, it's a marketing gimmick for sure, but it's a mechanic like any other in the game, be it driving or shooting. I think it makes the game more satisfying, we need more games that push for environment interaction.

Also, I can't remember the last open world, sandbox, driving with guns game that didn't let you shoot out of the cars. It's an interesting but odd choice which helps the hacking shine with importance.

If you could shoot out of your car and use the phone for hacks at the same time, I'm sure there'd be people crying about their ~immersion~. It's a fun sandbox that could use a little more depth, but it's fine for what it is.

I don't think that makes it a gimmick, but it's an area of criticism sure. I think it was a shortcut that the developers made to force people to use the hacking mechanics instead of resorting to shooting every time they're being chased, which is absolutely what would have happened. All games are about boundaries and rules though, this is just one of those rules.

In my mind it's a genre well known for janky/buggy/oddball scenarios happening, from TES, to Saints Row, to Far Cry, to GTA, to AssCreed. None of these games strike me as well polished games in either their gameplay or their stability. In fact it's things breaking in hilarious ways all at once that create the moments most people remember them for.

I shot a dude with my assault rifle and he fell over and hit a barrel which made the physics wig out and sent the guy flying, that's my favourite moment in watch dogs so far.

I'm kinda disappointed at the end of the game you didn't get any kind of reward for beating it. Saints row 4 gave you some cool powers at the end and I was hoping for some cool hacks as a reward

Just watched a friend stream himself using a trainer (Yeah, trainers already exist before the game's even been released) to give himself infinite health, focus and ammo. Watching all those explosions and goofy ragdolls in slow-motion has made me realize how much I love the particles and physics in this game Fake edit: Also, the best part of pretty much any open-world game is when its different ~emergent~ systems conflict and create hilarious unintentional results. Lack of polish is only really bad in games like this when it's gamebreaking/annoying. Moartoast fucked around with this message at 02:27 on May 26, 2014 |

Watchdogs is a great example of a game held back by last gen hardware. Hacking can lead to some interesting emergent gameplay, but for the most part its hypersimplified, largely contextual and localized. Visually, it's all over the place. Animations and character models look excellent, but the city feels bland and empty. I think this is going to be an interesting franchise going forward.

I'd guess that the multiplayer is done through Uplay, and they might have some sort of detection for using trainers(I wouldn't guarantee it, though.). I don't think the cracked versions are using Uplay. Also, trainers are actually really easy to make for most games, I'm not surprised there's one out for this game already.

I saw on a stream a guy kill about 5 people and then as people started to call in the murders he kept killing people. This went on for about 2-3 minutes before there was about 10 people calling at once (it seems if you kill the person calling you stop the crime from being reported). There was a LOT of civilians and although all it did was get on the cop's bad side it was nice to see there isn't limitations on that kind of stuff. He probably killed a good 60 people before he couldn't keep up with killing the callers. Also in that stream the car he was on was on fire and he jumped out as used traffic light and about 4 cars drove into a massive explosion causing at least 6-8 cars explode and causing a massive pile up. In short this looks like the most amazing rear end in a top hat simulator ever made. I can't wait to get a poo poo ton of grenades (please tell me you can get a poo poo ton of grenades) and just rain them down on car pile ups.

One is single shot, the other is pump action. Up to... eight frag grenades I think. Six remote IEDs. Six proximity IEDs. I think there's another explosive, but yeah. You can pack around a lot of boom

Has there ever been an Ubisoft Sandbox where the plot isn't linear, you can complete a mission any way you want, and the only fail-state is death? Like Fallout, basically.
