I decided to play some sims recently, and I decided to put some sims through university in a family I had been playing for a very long time and with which I had gotten very far. Apparently, though, there are sometimes glitches that corrupt the game during loading, and I ended up at the screen you see while starting up a new game, except it was in the university, and my family was gone. I decided that, instead of doing something sensible like looking up how to fix this first, resetting might fix it. It didn't. Now editing town doesn't work anymore (which is how to normally fix the glitch) and I got screwed over hard. I thought to put it up here in case one of you runs into the same glitch.

Unfortunately you've happened upon a very very common glitch! It first cropped up in World Adventures, with some people being completely unable to send families on holiday without it happening. So what did EA do about it? Nothing. Luckily, the fine mind behind the NRaaS suite of mods did do something. It won't fix anything that's happened already but it should go a long way to stopping any glitches of that nature that might happen in the future! Seriously though if you have WA or University then you are seriously playing with fire by not running this mod along with it, because without it you have a huge chance of losing your sim families. As an aside, I actually got an update done within less than a month of the previous one! All the screenshots are resting on my hard drive, all I need to do is edit them and they should be up either later today or tomorrow!

Does that corruption glitch happen with Into the Future as well? Because Oasis Landing is counted as a separate world much like the World Adventures areas and the University.

Or any of the very few mods I am using, really. curiousTerminal posted:Does that corruption glitch happen with Into the Future as well? Maybe EA noticed it by then and playtested Into the Future to make sure that at least this one doesn't have that glitch, but it's EA we're talking about, so I'd say: keep the possibility of it happening in mind.

I don't actually know for sure but I would err on the side of caution and say yes. Its a separate world and works exactly the same as University and World Adventures worlds so so I'd say its subject to the same potential glitches and fuckups as the others are.

Update 13 - Cornflakes and Conspiracies Half past noon and apples is not happy as she looks at the burnt remnants of what was supposed to be lunch and gets chastised by the fireman. She's so upset by setting the kitchen on fire that she doesn't even bother to retrieve the charcoal that is now her mac and cheese and instead grabs a bowl made my our resident werewolf. Which instantly gets spoiled. apples is a little more discerning than Jimmy is and refuses to eat it. Also for some reason the fireman came back just to yell at apples some more? I don't understand. After her second attempt at eating real food fails, apples appears to have given up completely and just grabbed some cereal from the fridge to eat. Meanwhile I spent roughly 2k replacing the oven, counter and coffee machine that apples destroyed. Having finally gotten something to eat, apples retreats to the pool table to engage in some activities that are much less likely to end with part of the dorm on fire. Dachshunds and Snuggles once again demonstrate the level of friendship in this house, and Roar happily stands outside his class, conjuring apples! This is a thing that wizard sims can sometimes do autonomously, they'll just magic up an apple and put it in their inventories. Its pretty cute really. Roughly 4pm and Dachshunds is in bed already. I think she hosed up her sleep schedule last night, so this is not going to be good for the rest of this week. Snuggles stares, Roar reads, and half an hour later, Snuggles is still staring. There is something seriously wrong with that guy. Roar and Eevee get to talking! They're actually getting on pretty okay but I'm not sure why the housemates aren't really interacting with each other that much, you'd think more friendships would've cropped up by now. Anyway, Eevee brightens Roar's day and he gets this happy moodlet. Aww After being a cool dude, Eevee heads to his favourite couch to watch some TV. Since the TV in the living room is poo poo and gets poo poo reception, he'll have this moodlet while he's watching it. Fancyass hi-def TVs give a mood boost while cheap ones give a negative moodlet like this one. Midrange TVs have no effect. Snuggles status: Brooding. Jimmy gets an opportunity while he's in class! This is exactly the same as the one Snuggles got in the last update, but with the podium in the lecture room instead. I accept it because hey, free grade boost! Speaking of Jimmy, classes have ended for he and apples, and Jimmy stands outside of the science building, studying like a nerd. Roar and Muscle Wizard enjoy some lovely TV and since I have actually forgotten Muscle Wizard's original name at this point I decide to change it to the one we've all been calling him since he showed up. apples talks conspiracies with this guy outside of class! This is a special social interaction that Neurotic sims get, they can regale their friends with tales of chemtrails, faked moon landings, and 9/11 truther theories. This guy seems to enjoy it! The guy to the left, not so much. So its midnight on the first day of term 2! Some goons have moved house, Dachshunds is asleep, Snuggles is brooding, Eevee, Roar and Muscle Wizard are watching TV, apples is flirting with truthers and Jimmy is lecturing to nobody. Its been a boring afternoon but hey, at least nobody started any more fires!

What kind of personality do Sims have to talk about conspiracies?

Neurotic or Insane, I think.

# ? May 24, 2014 16:49 |

Yep! Both Insane and Neurotic can cause a sim to ramble about conspiracies to people but in this specific case, apples is doing it because she has the Neurotic trait. EDIT: On a completely random note I am so surprised (and incredibly lucky) that I haven't come across any of the game-breaking glitches in this save file yet. The worst I've gotten in any of my games so far is this very creative way of playing double bass... ...which in the grand scheme of things isn't all that bad really! Update 14 - Everybody Hates Muscle Wizard Its midnight on Monday and Jimmy hops into bed after lecturing at nobody, gaining him a grade boost for the term! Its not gonna be a boring night though as Dachshunds has awoken, and she happily takes out her sketchbook and draws things while Eevee dreams about love in the background. It takes about an hour but when she's done... ...we put the new sketch by her older one! She's improving slowly! In the bathroom she gets this moodlet. I often forget that Dachshunds is a Neat sim so here's a reminder! Most sims don't care about dirty surroundings at all and will only get a negative moodlet after it reaches a certain point. Slob sims won't get negative moods at all but Neat sims? Ohh boy. If one thing is dirty or out of place, they'll get the "dirty surroundings" moodlet. If something is dirty enough that the skin on the object changes they will get this moodlet, whereas for non-Neat sims this is where the threshold for "dirty" would be. Neat sims do not tolerate mess at all. Eevee awakens at around 3am and instantly heads to the computer lab to play some games. Dachshunds eats hotdogs for breakfast, which must be losing its novelty by now. ...and then she and Eevee have an impromptu LAN party! I think this is actually the first time we've seen Dachshunds playing on a computer. Snuggles awakens and Eevee also grabs hot dogs for breakfast! Snuggles heads to the bathroom to use the urinal and leaves it in this condition. Number one, Snuggles, what the gently caress did you do? Number two, why do you look so proud of it? Eevee and Dachshunds have a nice discussion about those filthy casuals ruining games for everyone. Still, it seems to be going well! Maybe Dachshunds will make her first friend? Guess not. Eevee tries to save the conversation with some silly faces. Poor guy just wants a friend. Roar has woken up and joins Snuggles for some morning hot dogs...kinda. They're in the same room at least? Mornin', apples! Snuggles stares out of the window as normal, and after their failed attempt at socialisation, Eevee and Dachshunds go their separate ways to watch TV and clean the kitchen. For the record she didn't clean the gross counter in the background that the microwave is on, just this one counter that wasn't even all that dirty. Sims are weird. Time for lectures and class activities! Eevee, Snuggles and apples head off to various places around the campus to get their learnin' on! Jimmy is nice to Muscle Wizard while Asala gets super fuckin' hyped about seeds. Jimmy finds this attractive for some reason. Let me explain what's happening here. See, werewolves often act very canine in the Sims, they stand on their chairs and lean down to their bowls to eat food, they sniff at people and they dig! Because of these canine tendancies, sims interacting with a werewolf get access to some interactions that are only normally available to one other type of Sim. Specifically -- dogs. So when interacting with a werewolf you get access to certain pet-only interactions, such as bellyrubs, playing fetch, scratching them behind the ears, and the one pictured here, scolding! Maybe Asala pooped on the carpet or something because Muscle Wizard here is scolding her. In pets it helps teach them new traits or get rid of ones you don't like but in werewolves it just makes them feel bad for a while. Still a pretty neat touch! Eevee looks pretty happy at class and I also spot some goons! apples is in her lecture and has the same look on her face that I do when sending assignments to my tutors. Back at home Jimmy is playing games in his underpants, Roar is watching TV in his underpants, and Dachshunds uses her latent mutant abilities to get around those tricky corners as she cleans the bathroom. After using her magical cleaning powers, she settles down to draw some more and gets this moodlet. This is another special Neurotic sim thing, sometimes they'll worry about things. Mostly the sink and fireplace. They'll get this moodlet that does eventually go away in time but if you let them go off and check the fire or sink and ease their minds, the negative moodlet will be replaced with a positive one, leaving them calm and happy. Muscle Wizard gets a cooking point and Dachshunds finishes her sketch. I put it up in the bathroom because why not? I actually really like this one but maybe its because it looks kinda fractal-ish and I really really like fractals. Once that's done, she heads downstairs to engage in her other favourite pastime: yelling at Muscle Wizard. Luckily Roar is here to talk wizardy things with the poor guy and he cheers right up after talking with his fellow wizardbro. Dachshunds disapproves. Seriously, even Roar is disappointed in her at this point. Eevee (who looks really proud of himself and I find it adorable) and Snuggles are done with class activities and apples is done with her lecture for today! As they head back home, I spot Kloro riding a bike, FutureFriend looking terrified and this non-goon lady riding a broom to class. Tune in next time for the adventures of Snuggles, Eevee and apples as the other housemates attend their lectures! Today's not a very busy day academically and our goons could really use some time to socialise with each other. So, should I send them out to the bar after classes are over or throw a party? You decide, thread!

If I learned anything in college it's that bars are expensive and drinking at home is cheap. Bars are a great way to meet new people, but if you already have a decent network of friends and acquaintances throwing a party where those people invite some other people over is like having a bar in your house. Just buy some cheap beer, a few bottles of rotgut and some mixers and turn on the stereo. Bonus, nobody has to drive home! So, PARTY!

# ? May 25, 2014 17:01 |

I'm also throwing in for party, because in my experience sims actually socialize more during them than they do at bars.

Muscle wizardry itself is mostly a Trad Games thing, referring to a character that can do reality-defying feats simply by being swole as gently caress. An actual nerd wizard that is physically strong occasionally also qualifies. It's a good thing.

I believe it originated with this broken-rear end build that used a combination of D&D shenanigans to produce a wizard with infinite strength. Me riding a bike is how I spend most of my time, so that's oddly accurate! And I've grown my beard out to match the sim, so it's even more true to life! And I'll join the party party!

Glazius posted:Uni is about parties. Are those topics like broom-riding and music just there for variety, or do Sims react to them differently? As far as I know, if you are talking with someone who has a trait that corresponds with what you're talking about. (Like talking about music and the Virtuoso trait), they will be more likely to give a relationship boost. Likewise, if you try talking about a topic, like music, with someone with a trait that opposes the topic, like Dislikes Art, then they will be more likely to disagree and get a relationship hit. Funny example: If you "Accuse of Being a Diva", every sim will get a relationship hit, because it is a mean interaction. If the sim you are talking to has the Diva trait, however, they will get happy and get a relationship boost. Funniest part? Seeing the accuser take the 'offended' pose while the Diva goes "OH HEY YOU'RE RIGHT! "
