Jim Cornette got a question about Capital Combat on his podcast today since he was on the creative team for that PPV. It was really Peter Weller. It was the real Robocop suit.

The full story was Turner thought it was a huge deal that they got the TV rights to Robocop when Robocop 2 was coming out and Jim Herd was fully on board so Robocop was a huge part of the promotion of the PPV. Turner sprang for Weller in the suit as part of the promotion of both. The problem was the Robocop suit was so cumbersome all he could do was lumber up to the cage (leftover from the Midnights match earlier) and pull some gimmicked metal bars to free Sting.

I'm checking the version of the PPV put up on the WWE Network, but I can't find Robocop. What's the timecode, or did they scrub him out? It is after the Midnight Express match. Thanks, with that tip I was able to find it! It starts at 1:28:10 into the show, for anyone else interested. I've always loved Buff but yeah, his AoW episode was probably one of the better pieces of PR for him. That YT video is pretty good too although when he says he doesn't know why WWE fired him, I had to roll my eyes.

I think the best thing about Robocop is that it's such a classic WCW move to spend all of that money to get the actual Robocop suit and have Peter Weller in it for such little effect. But, if they went the other way and ended up with some knock off Robocop character and screwed it up, that also would be a classic WCW move.

Bash at the Beach 97 was a surprisingly great show. I thought the second half would peter out, but even the main event was surprisingly watchable. Lex Luger: Arm Drag Machine was great. Team BFFLs rose to the occasion and slayed Rodzilla. Naitch also provided us with Nick Patrick's greatest moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiaxyaVonrI

Professor Weller, in regards to Mannerism as a reaction to the "perfection" of the High Renaissance, would you agree that there are parallels to be found between Madonna with the Long Neck and that one scene in Robocop 3 where he gets the two samurai robots to stab each other to death?
