The GC Controller has been the best made controller in like a long time. It sits comfortably in the hands.Waffleman_ posted:Again, if you didn't buy a Wavebird, that's not anyone's problem but your own. To be fair who really knew it was the BEST wireless controller ever made? It was still at a time where people were wary about wireless.

The Gamecube controller is the greatest controller ever made. I've said that at least three times in this thread, but it's true.

So are they only showing/producing wired controllers due to "omg input lag" for pros, or because the adapter doesn't support wavebirds?

Gamecube games tend to be around 1.8 GB, the Wii U has 32 GB of internal storage now and you can plug in any external media you want, save for disks, and store things there.

I doubt that matters on a system that lets you download modern games. Why didn't Nintendo just make wireless Wavebirds for the Wii U instead of an adaptor to plug in old Gamecube controls?

But there was no way Mega Man was not going to be one of the characters. 6 of the 20 draftee characters are newcomers, so someone's gonna get stuck. KracKiwi posted:So are they only showing/producing wired controllers due to "omg input lag" for pros, or because the adapter doesn't support wavebirds? I don't see any reason the adapter won't support a wavebird, but they probably won't produce new ones because you can just get a Wii U Pro controller. I recall they did a special run of white GCN controllers for use with the early model Wiis, so we'll probably see something similar here. Lemming posted:The adapter looks cool it's just a shame you have to use a controller with a 4 inch cord. Anyone calling the Gamecube controller Nintendo's most comfortable controller has apparently not held a Wii U Pro Controller.Spacebump posted:I doubt that matters on a system that lets you download modern games. Probably because the sort of hardcore SSB player who wanted the Gamecube controller to return also doesn't want it to be wireless, and might be pretty attached to the one(s) they already have. But if they're also putting out a new run of Smash-branded GC controllers, it'd be nice if they spruced them up a bit. All glossy black/white, no more C-nipple, and a second Z button would be good.

KracKiwi posted:So are they only showing/producing wired controllers due to "omg input lag" for pros, or because the adapter doesn't support wavebirds? It's actually just the chance that another controller can sync accidentally (or on purpose), or just having to deal with batteries. There's a lot more that can go wrong with wireless controls in a tourney setting than wired controllers have to deal with. Pretty happy about this, I still only have the gamepad and a pro control- if the adapter ends up being reasonably priced then I can just use old gamecube controls instead of running out and getting two more pros- they're better anyway. Hell, I can probably even scrape 4 of them together from my moving boxes alone.

Oxyclean posted:I think the White GCN controllers also had pretty long cords (longer then original GCN controllers) It's a huge cord, and basically the best controller ever. Seriously, if you play Smash, you owe it to yourself to buy one of them off Amazon, though I'd be shocked if there weren't some longer corded Smash tie-in ones announced. Also SERIOUS kudos to Nintendo. The tournament has something for everyone (though I wish first round was 2v2 instead of FFA since teams owns), and they really grabbed a good mix of talent. Great commentators that are actually from the community instead of all ESPORRRRTTTZZZ, good players (lol @ Hungrybox not having jigglypuff as an option), and even a decent gender blend. It feels like they basically listened to the competitive community as much as they viably could have for this sort of event, and I know the people in the scene I've talked to so far really appreciate the outreach. I'm excited. e: Also the Wavebird not being used for tournament play has little to do with lag and more to do with that poo poo that got posted a few pages ago about people being able to pause matches anonymously from across the room and poo poo like that. Yeah, I already thought it was really cool that they were making an offical GC controller adapter, and then they played hilariously inappropriate (or extremely appropriate?) music with extreme close-ups because they KNOW everyone has been wanting to be able to use GC controllers for Smash 4.

I have to assume they got copies, just because it'd be incredibly lovely for someone to end up with Marth or some other character they're extremely familiar with while some poor soul gets stuck with Villager. I mean, maybe Villager is secret top tier, who knows, but considering how competent the tournament seems to be I'd be surprised if such an obvious issue went ignored.
