Baron Von Ghoulosh posted:Rumor has it, that Amon Amarth are going to strike out again across North American soil this fall with Sabaton and Skeletonwitch once again in tow. Not being a tremendous fan of power metal, I've never had the chance to see Sabaton live. How is that? Power war metal eh? Sabaton is fuckin' great and I'm kicking myself that I missed the Amon Amarth tour last time around.

Hopefully, it will not snow in the US southeast this October/November. Amon Amarth and Skeletonwitch have never disappointed me before either.

Sabaton are cheesy and poppy as all gently caress, but they have catchy songs and the vocalist is kinda cool with his rolling Rs and all. I find them pretty fun. Haven't seen them live, though. Basically, they're a heavy metal version of the old Commando comics.

Warm weather always puts me in the mood for power metal, and I've found myself listening to Sabaton alot lately. This is great news.

So I found this video earlier... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ2ucr74YNk I don't think I like Akerfeldt's voice for the first minute of that song? Only a minute twenty into it though. Normally, one of my favorite singers of all time. The music itself sounds pretty great though. I think that this album will share my sentiments with Heritage; overall a I enjoyed it, but not what I want from Opeth. Certainly not their best work, but I was particularly disappointed with it. Sabaton are fun live, lots of energy, lots of flirting with the crowd and very tongue in cheek. I'm not a fan but I try to see them live whenever I can because it's never boring and occasionally they have special guests on for some songs to mix it up.DEAR RICHARD posted:I just don't care about Opeth anymore. I was basically just waiting for the song to be over, I get that they are trying something different from when they started out but does it have to be so boring?

Nah this album is wiping the floor with other death metal albums in 2014. Big riffs, tons of atmosphere, actually written as a cohesive album. I love it.

What's some other death metal that fuckin grooves like Carcass? Particularly the granulating dark satanic mills and 316 L grade surgical steel

There's Impaled and Exhumed if you're looking for straight up Carcass worship.

That's more RoP era Carcass worship than Surgical Steel/Heartwork type stuff, though. Which is just melodeath. I don't know anything about melodeath, though, so I couldn't give recs.

This is going to be a really depressing year if the League of Legends power metal album is the best selling metal album of the year (There is no doubt, it's going to break a shitload of sales records for metal albums mark my words). http://na.pentakillmusic.com/en/ I mean, it could be a lot worse. It's just extremely generic Euro style power metal. But still, I have to hate it on principle.

The good news is you can listen to literally everything they have ever released. In my opinion, Litany, Impressions in Blood, Welcome to the Morbid Reich, and their compilation/rerecording album XXV are their absolute bests.
