Oath Complete! Inquisitor's Journal I started by sponging blue, green, and purple onto the skin. Then I gave it a Army Painter soft tone wash. The one on the right has some skin highlights though I think I over did it and hid the underlaying colors to much. The guts and tongue section turned out the best. It's to bad you can't really see it in the assembled model. I washed the base in blue. Parts before assembly. I snapped the mast trying to get it to fit together. Oops.

Iris of Ether posted:I'm fine with including this as Box Art (though it's more of a 'Breaking the 4th Wall'), but I want to hear feedback from the other thread runners before giving you the points. Yep, I'm very cool with this - it's replicating box art of something that isn't a specific miniature and the creativity for the 'box' has to be rewarded! LESS THAN 3 HOURS REMAINING! OMG, OMG, what to do?! I know, I'll wake up early and finish my oath! My goal this year is to complete an oath every month - I got sidetracked far too much last time around. Here's the Inquisitor's Journal WIP pictures, plus Parts List (thank goodness for Google Drive auto-uploads from my phone camera) Primed in Badger's Stynylrez black primer Sprayed at a 45 degree angle around each model (from the top) with Stynylrez grey Close-up of the instant shading (this guy will be my sample guy throughout the rest of the photos) Sprayed from directly above with Stynylrez white Sample Sprayed all over with Badger Minitaire Ancient Bone Sample. Kind of hard to see the shading working here, but I think I spray too much grey and white Tryed to spray Minitaire Ghost Tints on the carapace parts but I couldn't get the air/viscosity mix right so I left it for a couple of days (until this morning) to finish off everything. Mixed Oil Discharge and Green Ghost Tints at about a 3:2 mix and brushed them on the carapace bits. Sample. Use the Les Burley Flesh Wash recipe on all the skin parts For some reason the sample guy isn't coming out as green in the pictures as he IRL Decided to add a *little* bit of color with Ghost Tint Magenta on the 'vent' areas, tongues and a couple of other places. Just for a tiny bit of bright color. I was definitely going for the Aliens color with these guys, and I think I found my 'recipe' for the rest of my army, but I thought some extra color would be good. There's more color on the other side, with the hose and eye on the gun. (note to self: phone pictures and cropping using Google Photos editing doesn't make for sharp photos!) Finished! The bases aren't done, I'll be rebasing all of my Tyranid models on spaceship decking style bases, which I have yet to make. Oath Complete !!! I managed to finish my two Cyclops Savages and Cyclops Brute from Privateer Press!!! Seriously, how'd that happen. Base coat colors and stuff Application of (most) of a gold metallic trim A very poorly lighted pic of some clean up and metallic weapons. Not pictured, me panicking about not pulling off the oath Completed models in front of white paper towels because that's the best I could do at 3:50AM Parts Listing GW Paints White Scar Auric Armor Gold Runefang Steel Abbadon Black Caliban Green Screaming Skull XV-88 Xerxeus Purple Black Primer Woodland Scenics Medium Brown Woodland Scenics Coarse Buff Greenstuff Photogenic Papertowels I have no idea if it worked or if it showed, but my plan was since I primed black and had such dark colors, to layer as much as possible to try to get those deep dark greens and purples to show up. I had no idea i would need so many thin layers of purple to get the color I wanted. I didn't have any washes and because of my procrastination, I didn't get to make my own washes either. I am sure it would have helped make these look better, but maybe next oath. And of course, once I look at these pics before I post them I think wow, the camera really does capture everything. Doh. Still this is far better than anything I've ever painted and it won't make me ashamed when I put them on the table. Thanks Oath thread for showing me everyone else's awesome painted models, and making me aspire to try to get there. Season 5iver Parts List Jurnal Themed Group

This takes forever and if you make even a single mistake the sail is ruined because painting in between the shapes is impossible and it was airbrushed to get the fade and patching an airbrushed fade using a paint brush is not humanly possible. OK I took too long editing photos of the Jurnal so I only have one nice photo of the ship in my oath complete post. And I had to edit it to stop breaking tables but you can see by the fact I posted before The Supreme Court that I got it all in on time? Anyway here are some more photos of the completed ship. I assume I can't get these into the slideshow since I took too long editing things, oh well Leperflesh fucked around with this message at 12:12 on Jun 1, 2014 |

Thanks for the compliment The Supreme Court. I think it looks OK from a tabletop-eye view but there are sooo many mistakes I want to go back and fix. And mold lines, and gaps that I didn't have time to fill, and I'm really not happy with the highlighting and shading, etc. But I guess I have to limit how much time I spend on each piece or I'll never, ever get them all painted. So, I'm gonna coat this ship with matte seal tomorrow and then move on to the next one.

Awesome looking Oaths, everybody! This year looks like it's starting off great. A quick question: is there anything happening this year in terms of special basing and/or conversion work? I know it was a something in the last thread, but I'm not sure about Season 5. I ask, because I have a special conversion I'm about to work on that's also going to have a big scenic base, and I'm not sure if I should just dive right in or save it for later.

Tadhg posted:A quick question: is there anything happening this year in terms of special basing and/or conversion work? No, nothing for the base (was too confusing) but Manifest may want to do a conversion prize again. However, I will pony up $25 for a random Alternate Universe oath, no judging or anything. The only catch is we'll need 10 or more people to complete their Oaths at the end of the season! So this is great if you have an army or several boxes you want to get done in 11 month's time! I'll work on the details for this and post them up soon. I'm on the road right now but will post the next Inquisitor's Journal as soon as I get back home!
