I realized Friday that we have way too many kids that barely know how to play for me to run a UWx devotion/control deck. 2-0-2 got me 5th place, especially when the 2 wins were 1-0 matches where game 2 went to time.

We have a 9 year old possibly asperger's kid who is learning to play because his idol Grant Imahara plays. He's really polite, and keeps a good attitude, even when he's losing, is running the BOTG event deck unchanged, but still has to ask so many questions about how the deck works to the TO. He also brings his deck over to me between games because he can't shuffle well, and I've helped him before. He's getting better, but it's so slow.

I just found out today that my LGS has a box of Premium Deck Series: Slivers. Is it worth picking up? I'm thinking of making a Sliver Overlord Commander deck down the line, and it feels like it would be a good step in that direction, and it contains some useful stuff like Ancient Ziggurat, a couple of Vivids, Coat of Arms, and most creatures are 1-ofs, so there shouldn't be too much chaff... I don't know the price yet, unfortunately.

It sells for $150 on SCG, so it's worth it to just resell, but it would be much cheaper to buy the individual slivers for your Commander deck if the store's selling it at a high price.

I don't expect them to gouge like that, but it's good to know I can hold on to it either way. Worst case I could resell it and split some of that with the store or just go and spend some money there (not like I wasn't going to anyway :v:). Thanks for the info.

That would go directly against the whole reason for rebooting 'walkers - being able to get them into the games and feature them as relateable storyline protagonists whose problems don't start at THE FATE OF THE PLANE DEPENDS ON YOU and scale up from there. I'm sure they'll keep sprinkling in a few Ashiok-types, because they are neat, but I would certainly not expect this to become a real trend.

And Returned masks totally have eyeholes. The presence of any actual eyes to use them is more questionable.

I was going to edit my last post, but I have a question, if anyone is watching the SCG Open.

Dustin Penn has a Jitte with two counters on board, his opponent has a Qasali Pridemage and a Mother of Runes. Why couldn't he just remove the two counters to kill the Pridemage outright? Mother of Runes can't grant it protection from colorless, and the ability is on the artifact, not the creature.

I ask because the commentators mentioned it, but didn't say that he could just kill it without caring about Mother.

I'm not watching, but I'm guessing he doesn't care much about the Pridemage and is saving the counters for something else. Was his opponent tapped out?

No, he really wanted the mage dead, they were discussing how he'd kill it. Opponent was tapped out of anything relevant, except Mother of Runes was untapped obviously. I feel like I'm missing something and it's bugging me.

Nah, Tibalt had been going around for a while. He just likes to return to Innistrad because Innistradi folk are his favorites to torment and he couldn't resist showing up when "the bad poo poo" was going down.

Ajani Vengeant and Domri are the only ones that are really "haven't been 'walkers very long" when we saw them. Sometimes they just give us Spark Ignition stories for no real reason even if they're not congruent with the current set. I know they just threw Vraska and Tezzeret's out at us in different ways. Dack Fayden's is just the beginning half of one of the comic volumes.

Don't think so. Doubt it, or he'd just have used Pridemage to destroy the Jitte. The point they made in the commentary was that Mother was somehow affecting Jitte killing Pridemage and I don't get it. They're not usually wrong, in my experience, and it seems like a pretty important thing to miss.

VV: Mom doesn't make it useless, and you can just kill her with the next attack, since TNN could attack, get another two counters on the Jitte (it was equipped to a TNN) and kill her. Probably coverage hosed up I think, it's just bugging me. Thanks goons. I'll just wait for the video to come out within the week.

The other likely reason then is because you want to take out both Mom and the Pridemage.

If you hit the Pridemage with the counters. its dead but Mom is left to make your Jitte all but useless with its ability. If you pop Mom, then the Pridemage takes out the Jitte and you're left with a TNN but none of the gear that makes it truly killer. If you wait, you might be able to force a position from your opponent where you can deal with both, meanwhile the worst your opponent can do is pop a Jitte, lose a mom, and leave you a TNN

In that sense the Mom is preventing you from advantageously destroying the Pridemage.

EDIT: Or you know, coverage hosed up, they aren't perfect.

Just rewatched this part.

Dustin messed up. His opponent has a Thalia with Sword of Light and Shadow equipped. So while Dustin could have killed the Pridemage, his opponent would just get it back on his turn after attacking with Thalia, because of Sword's ability. Dustin needed a way to kill the Pridemage + exile it from the game completely. Had he left green mana up, he could've exiled it from the graveyard with Deathrite.

Dustin also had Swords to Plow in hand, and probably thought he was gonna get rid of the Pridemage that way. Unfortunately, Mother of Runes was untapped and could've just given Pridemage pro-white in response.

I had a lot of fun at GP Manchester, played mono black aggro was 3-1 at one point but crashed at 3-3 and drop. I found the deck to be very explosive and able to kill players before they can get their courser engine going, but too inconsistent to get anywhere near the top tier decks running around.

Oh and I got to do a conspiracy draft with raphael levy, dzyl (aka Jan Van Der Vegt) and some other people. It was really interesting. :)

EDIT: I don't know if they recorded it, but Rich Hagon called me a "Black Man" in front of everyone for being the only one in the crowd running mono black aggro. Thanks rich for not being racist! :ohdear:

But I can't see spending $100 on Mutavaults (already have most of the other cards), since it may cycle out in a month or two. What might be a good substitute for it? Regular lands? I know the point is to get quick access to 2/2 creatures, so im not sure what might sub in there.

Most versions of the deck I have seen (including my own) only run 3 mutavaults. But for subbing 4, I would go 2 Guildgates and 2 Mountains. There isn't much else to play.
