v It only took a couple minutes, really, except for some prep time. Apparently on 4chan there are ones without sound that are tiny and can last up to a couple minutes with rather good quality (especially compared to .gifs), though I'm not interested in that personally.

You can have a 1280x720 "gif" at 30 frames per second that's nearly a minute long and only takes up like 2 megs (depending on what's in it). It's pretty nuts efficiency and miles ahead of gif in that regard. This is without sound.
