Here's hoping. I've driven European cars before so I'm used to that, but I suspect I'm going to have to take everything much slower when it comes to changing gears.

I've been working at this a couple days. when i bought the car it looked like someone removed some stickers from the back of it with a fork. i cleaned and filled a bunch of the marks last year. Here it is after a rough sanding.

hours painting and sanding and being dissapoiinted and sanding again and painting again etc

after the last coat of clear

sanded, polished, and cleaned:

It's not perfect, but you have to be looking to notice it, and i picked up enough of my mistakes that i'm fairly confident i can get it perfect next time i try something like this.

I also tried removing the "radical nightshaydezzz" fromm the tail lights, but it would likely destroy them to try, so i just went over it really good with rubbing compound which lightened them up, and made them shiny

Now most of the back of the car looks presentable.

Drove it. Only fluffed up a couple of changes from second to third (not smooth enough on clutch). Now I can cross that off the 'Things to do before I die' list.

I had a set of vise grips on the shaft, and a set on the top of the upper mount, and soaked everything in penetrating lube, and the fucker still twisted the op off instead of backing the nut off. All i can say is thank jeebus for ratcheting flex head wrenches.

Ugh. When I did those on my Blazer, the top nut would not come loose whatever I did. I ended up cutting through the big washers with tin snips wire cutters and pushing the nut down through the frame mount.

i was getting pretty desperate near the end, but the rear upper nuts are pretty much enveloped by the aftermarket exhaust that's seemingly made of old drill pipe. I'd say the exhaust probably weighs around 150lbs, but it sounds so right so i'm not gonna gently caress with it for now.

YO SOY FIESTA

I did my very first work on my own car today (yeah I know, kind of behind the curve of most of AI). One of the speakers in my front passenger door crapped out on me about 7 months ago and I finally got around to opening it up to see if it was a loose wire or the speaker itself, using this tutorial. After an hour and a half of nail-busting work prying the drat thing open... I couldn't tell anything. The wires were wrapped up too tight to tell. :sigh: I wiggled them around a bit to see if it changed anything, I guess I'll give it a better listen tomorrow morning to see if it actually changed anything. If not, I'll probably bring it to the dealership or something for better diagnosis. Still proud of myself for getting dirty and trying to tackle it.

The exhaust basically wraps around the upper shock mount, which is on the inside of the frame.i would have had to drop the exhaust to get an angle grinder in there.

Today i got the A/C compressor and blower motor running in the lincoln, but it was running around 65 psi, so i'm worried the compressor might be damaged by some idiot overfilling the system.

I re-organized the garage hoping i would be able to have the lincoln on the garage when i do the rear axle bearings in the ford in case i have to wait for parts for a few rainy days. And i would have gotten away with it too, but the lincoln is exactly 1 foot too long. It's right up against those shelves in the back, and the front bumper is pretty much dead in line with the center of the rear axle of the pickup.

So loving close.

That doesn't really look too bad.

Slide bolt mostly in, hang washer on it with fingertips or needlenose pliers.

Use heavy grease to glue nut into wrench, or use visegrips to get it started, or use locking adjustable wrench.

Sneak it up in there, tighten accordingly...

Don't get me wrong, it is an asinine design, I just think it isn't that bad compared to some other atrocities I've had to deal with. Like the rear end in a top hat who put a T55 or T60 size torx bolt tightened to a billiondy foot pounds on the oil filter adapter, located so you can't get a bit+ratchet between it and the frame rail. You have to take the tip out of the bit, then use a box wrench on the tip instead of a ratchet. It is double plus dumb.

I did use grease to hold the nut to my wrench. Unfortunately I did not have pliers skinny enough and long enough to fit. That's what took so long. After an hour I ended up using a telescopic magnet that had a head just narrow enough.

Rivals are crazy-rear end nutjob tires. Tread on the sidewall. Knurled beads to hold onto the wheel better when you slide. I loving hate these lovely ricer lugnuts which rust in the air and get stuck to the tool.

And on the other car.. this zerk was supposedly cad plated when I installed it in October. Luckily the strut around it turned to junk so it's not that big of a problem. Yet more junk to throw into the dumpster.

Them Speedlines is wide.

205-50-16 RE760s are super nice but are really showing the weaknesses in my suspension setup. Suspect I've torn or blown something in the front end too, feels like the right front has dynamic toe. Will mess around with the tire pressures first and then probably start building new strut assemblies from my spare parts pile.

July 16th, 2013: My wifes Mazda6 stranded her at the mall parking lot due to a failed alternator. Queue the only torrential downpour to ever take place in Utah in the middle of July! After a few hours I gave up and came back to finish the job the next day.

Friday, we are at a stop light and the battery light comes on. As soon as the engine picks up RPMs it goes off so we turned around and gambled a stop a O'Reilly to check the alternator. Voltage regulator failed most likely meant that the 11 month old alternator poo poo the bed. I at least had the comfort of swapping on a Saturday morning in about 3 hours.

Until you forget to loosen that one bolt on the alternator and strip out the tensioner block.

And then strip out the tensioner block on the other tensioner pulley because it's left-hand thread :negative:

Working on a 94 WRX at the moment and after I replaced the air con idler pulley the power steering pump was making all sorts of noise complete with air bubbles and a small pool of Dex 3 on bits and pieces. So after attempting to siphon as much as I could out of the reservoir (yeah that got messy) I found a couple of flattened o rings that needed replacing. Now it's back to being quiet and bubble free - yay!

I've got a very warm ST205 that is getting outrageously hot after I run. When it's idling, the fans on the Delta come on every few minutes but this doesn't seem to happen with the 205. I'm gonna have to take it in and get someone to have a look at it to make sure the fans are actually working, the bonnet is way too warm for it to be good.

Let's see, what have I done on the ride... well, in the last couple days I got a new fuel filter, replaced the fuel pump due to leakage and hosed up gasket, had a shop unfuck my vacuum lines, and I got a new distributor cap since the original one showed signs of arcing and wear. Despite these actions, my issue with the erratic, lovely idle and threat of stalling continues. Next I need to look at the ignition coil and the carburetor as well as replace my AC compressor ...

(and can't post for 11 years!)

Sunroof has been making some nasty noises when opening/closing - mostly when it pops up/down there was a grinding noise, sometimes jamming. Moved really slow too.

Hit it with some spray white lithium grease.

Now opens/closes much faster and smoother, with no grinding noise. An added bonus is the rattle that's been annoying the poo poo out of me for the past year is also gone. :woop:

Definitely not the "recommended" GM multi-purpose light grease in the owner's manual, but $5 vs :20bux:+:10bux: is a decent decision.

Clean the throttle body and IAC seat+pintle and check your vacuum lines before you replace the TPS. Unless the TPS signal is glitchy and screwed up of course.

Pulled the clutch/pressure plate off the 3SGE. It looks about as well as could be expected for a clutch with 70k miles on it, combination of D.C. traffic (PO, 40k miles), 30k of spirited driving on back-roads, as well as teaching 7 people how to drive stick under its belt. It still has a fair bit of material though. I suspect what actually was causing the slipping, which started a few weeks before I parked it, was a bad rear main seal. It's pretty nasty inside the bell-housing.
