So what's the best way to practice PvP? I absolutely get wrecked by invading phantoms from lack of experience against players. Also, I hate the metagame. Everything is lightning <long reach sword> and GMB.

Bellbro is terrible at learning PVP since everyone there is really bad. Duels on Iron Keep are the best; the people there aren't that good but they usually know what they're doing, and unlike the arenas there are not a ton of really high leveled guys.

Sunlight Blade, Sacred Oath, healing spells. Defender's Greatsword could eventually replace Sunlight Blade if you prefer. Homeward is also always useful and why I've always invested a little into faith in all Souls games. Unveil is nice to counter Chameleon, too. edit: oh yeah and Magic Barrier/Great Magic Barrier.

You can run out of those and you don't need to buy more uses of the miracle. It's a straight upgrade until you get the feather late game. Homeward isn't as useful in DkS2 on the basis of the bonfires being closer together but it's still good to have. Oh yeah, there's also Emit Force and Wrath of God if you're just tired of actual lightning.

Emit Force also has a much wider hitbox than Lightning Spear, so it's harder for a player to dodge.

I used like two Homeward Bones in the whole game, it's simply not necessary in the vast majority of situations. I wish the Aged Feather let you level yourself up instead of being an infinite boner, it's kind of a poo poo reward considering how late you get it.

Its not fun at all but its probably to best way to learn how to fight against the terminally uncreative invaders that plague this game. Alternatively wait until numbness gets patched because that poo poo is so loving dumb and exhausting to play against.

I want to do this first run mostly blind (I've avoided nearly all spoilers so far, somehow), but I'm slightly apprehensive on one thing... Is the stat system mostly the same compared to the first game? Or have there been changes where I could fall into a newb-trap?

Get adaptability to 20 or so unless you plan to have a lot of attunement. They determine your agility, which affects how good your dodge roll is. You want 100 agility or more, though you'll see diminishing returns past that. There's no resistance stat equivalent.

He must have been intended as a sorcery trainer, what with him going "FEEBLE SORCERY SORCERY HANDLE MY SORCERY", and now this. It's weird as heck, and now I have to waste two soul vessels to buy my boss weapons.

I think From might have just forgotten that the bandit starts with 1 int. Straid has a faith requirement too, but you can't start with less so you never see it.

I see a lot of people bitching about soul memory. But isn't save backup the easiest way to legitimately get around it? You make a PVP character that you want, back up the save. Then pvp until you feel that your soul memory is too high, then just go back to the backup save. Same character, low soul memory.

Hmmm, so it appears that the game isn't recognizing my lovely old Logitech controller (this one: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/288?osid=14&bit=64). I poked around a bit, and tried an application that a Reddit thread recommended (DS3) but it didn't recognize the controller either. The same thread also recommended disabling other human interaction devices in control panel, but that seems like a bad idea. Any ideas? This controller worked without a problem on DS1. Lost Sinner playthrough complete. Now the part I hate. I meant to go to NG+ to get more active PvP/summons, and be properly kitted out to white soapstone at the Lost Sinner boss fight. But I love making new characters! I wish they would've stuck with just the SM system and not split the NG/NG+ player pools. I feel like NG+ is where it's at, but starting fresh is so good. Think it's time to look up armor sets for Simon Belmont. Or do a dual mace build since I haven't used em much. Or..
