Have faith! The tank swap is the only tricky part of council for tanks, and you've already managed the tank swapping on Bestia. It's a similar level of difficulty.

Hahaahahah I love the comments on Dulfy about the gambling event -

I'm very close myself to unsubbing I have invested around 500+ dollars in cartel market coins over the year and IMHO "supported" the one genre I have been with since childhood and I've played for days now blowing all my money having almost everyone around me win jackpot constantly and all I wana do is pop rancor and get back to pvp and groups stuff but noo I get burned by a company candidly butt-f-ing Star Wars fans.. I go up to KP machines with "feeling lucky" and 1 in 3 times I get 4-5 consecutive fails i mean do I have an invisible debuff called unlucky that only my character has?

If you want to read gambling horror stories, check out the star trek online forums some time. People will spend hundreds of IRL money on lockboxes for a shot at getting rare ships, and rage when it somehow doesn't work out for them.

It's crazy, because you can just buy most of them on the auction house (for lots and lots of credits, but still, it's only fake money and you're guaranteed to get what you want).

Also on the whole nerds getting mad at the slot machine thing, I honestly don't understand why people are whining about not getting that rancor cause (in my opinion) its pretty ugly.
Just save up your money and get something nice from the GTN instead of clicking on some doodoo machine for thirty hours.

How can you even spend 5.5 million? That guy must've just bought stacks of Kingpin's tokens for straight credits. I guess that might be understandable if you have literally no outside information about how the odds work, but then why are you dumping millions of credits into something you don't understand?

I started this game again recently after not playing since near launch and have had a pretty easy time until around level 27. While Tatooine doesn't feel as bad as people say it is, my main issue is that the amount of credits I need to keep my stuff up to date is generally more than I can make. Skills cost a pretty big amount of credits, let alone keeping up with Artifice/Archaeology/Treasure Hunting. It's hard enough keeping myself up to date with gear, let alone my companions.

Should I be keeping my gear up to date through flashpoints? I haven't done any since Black Talon. I don't know if I'm confident that I'm good enough at Sith Marauder to really succeed in them. So many buttons, not sure which ones to mash.

Also is it worth the hassle of getting the holocrons? I got the ones on Korriban, Hutta and Dromund Kaas, but fell off doing those at Balmorra.

A good source of money is just selling the mats you get from gathering missions on the GTN. Underworld metals are the most reliable moneymaker IMO. I don't know if Archaeology or Treasure Hunting are big moneymakers.

A cheap way to keep your gear up to date is to be fully suited in orange customizable gear, and then just use your planetary commendations to buy mods & enhancements (and armorings, if you're flush) from the supplies wing of the fleet. If you have enough comms, you technically don't need to spend credits on your armor ever again, I don't think.

For companions, I usually just buy cheap level-appropriate green gear off the GTN for them every 4 levels or so.

Flashpoints are a good way to stay up to date with comms. PVP too (you can trade your warzone comms for planetary comms at one of the guys standing near the PVP console). Don't worry too much about sucking; as long as your gear is relatively up to date, you'll be ok, and as the DPS, it's hard for you to gently caress up too badly and ruin the raid. There are some truly awful players out there, and you are highly unlikely to be the worst one.

Don't worry too much about datacrons; I've completed the class stories of like 5 characters now and have never once found a single one, you don't need them for leveling. I think those are more for endgame stuff, to give your hardcore raiding character an extra edge in stats.

Nipponophile
Apr 8, 2009
Speaking of datacrons, it's been forever since I put together a run. Who's up to hunt some tomorrow night?

I'm thinking of doing something different this time. Rather than blowing through all the planets in order, instead picking a couple of planets and doing some of the world boss and achievement stuff in addition to the datacrons.

For instance, there's achievements on Alderaan for slipping into House Organa and killing a few of the Jedi Masters there, but since it's the enemy faction base, it requires a few people to do.

I would drop doing anything with artifice until you are at 50 or above, keeping up with your crew skills while levelling are a decent way of keeping yourself poor. You also don't need to gear up at every level, I find that changing my stuff every five levels is best. If you use your planetary comms at the equipment/mod commendations stores. You can run flashpoints to get decent gear if you want to. Sith Marauder is quite an easy class to learn as well. You don't need to worry too much about rotation while levelling, just kill poo poo no one will call you out because you used ravage outside of a gore window etc on it unless they are dicks and that is what /ignore or the party jawa is for.

Don't worry too much about keeping companions up to date either, the odd quest will reward you with companion gear that you can use to keep them topped off.

Basic advice, use your planetary comms to keep your gear up, you shouldn't need to waste too many credits on gear. If you find yourself low on planetary comms then either do a few rounds of PvP and trade the thousands of warzone comms in for planetary comms at the PvP vendor, or do a few flashpoints plus the flashpoint daily.

Are you on JC? Same offer I always make -

1) Run through Oricon to get a decent set of gear. I (or a bunch of others) would be happy to run through it with you.

2) If you want to practice tanking a 55 HM FP just let me know, I can heal you through it no matter how bad you are.

3) Make sure you show up Sunday nights for open funday raid.

You assume that they actually care about doing it "right" or "sensibly". They just want rear end pats and items while the games tells them how special they are. Maybe I've been really lucky, but I had enough certs to buy almost anything I wanted and got one Vectron mount. I guess I'd like another, maybe the rancor?, maybe a slot explosion?, and the rest of the legacy bound weapons, but I've probably spent under 100k since I used wz comms to buy 40 smuggler chips.

I was running a Directive 7 group with pubbies. Our tank and healer were good competent players and our other DPS was that guy, a mercenary. Needed on sin gear for the first couple rolls, and wouldn't spacebar any of the cutscenes (there's a ton of them in that FP) eventually we just got tired of his poo poo and stopped healing him and he rage quit.

It feels like it should be one of the easiest things in the world to do, you're just changing two numbers in the UI, but who knows! Bioware's response will no doubt be that it requires a couple months of a full team reworking the entirety of SWTOR to make it happen. It'll probably be a micro-transaction for players.

That's the thought anyone who has never worked in Software Development has. Trust me...there's no such thing as a simple change. Ever. We made what was essentially a font change once that ended up completely breaking another module...luckily it was caught in QA.

Well for the given case, I'd argue that it's not a difficult change. But yeah it's a small bug that they probably forgot about because they had to stabilize the servers.
