I think you're right, Millions. I also wonder about what would life be if we had gotten a male corgi pup from a different breeder but Panda has trounced any doubt that I may have had. Such a good dog, if not a little bossy. Just stop chasing our cats and then running up to us to go "See what I just did! I got rid of those cats for you!".

My wife and I thought about adopting another dog. George is very sociable everywhere except in our (HIS) house. He goes to doggy day care on occasion and the folks there say he's the friendliest dog ever, as do folks at the groomer, but let another dog come into his house and he goes ballistic. So that killed that idea.

You want corgis I got freakin corgis This is my buttface, Merry. She's a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who lives with me in Actual Real Wales, UK. Yes she is a real corgi even though she has a tail, docking for aesthetic reasons is banned in the UK.

You may have heard that both types of corgis are on the kennel club's endangered native breed list and that makes me very sad. I don't live anywhere near Pembrokeshire or Cardigan so I don't know if they have anything going on down there but I feel it's unlikely. There's more corgi stuff in the USA than in the corgi homeland, ironically.

Today I went to meet my new bundle of fluff. He is only 5 weeks (6 on monday) so I won't get to take him home for a couple of weeks. He is a cardigan and I can't wait to snuggle him more! I'm also really nervous as he will be my first dog without my parents. But anyway I thought I would shares some pictures of the pup who will be known as Hudson.      And for the sake of it, here is his exceedingly handsome brother.

Hello thread! Posting in advance, to say how excited I am my Fiancee and I are getting a corgi. We'll be picking her up at the end of July. I don't have any pictures handy, but I'll post a couple from the breeder when I get home tonight. She's Pembroke, with a merle coat. She's only 4-5 weeks at this point, but her coat isn't as spotty as it could be. It's a very good color pattern and we also aren't sure if she'll have the merle blue eye thing going on. Anyway, just came to say how pumped we are to be posting in this thread soon.

Sounds like they may be breeding Pems with Cardigans. Even though they're both "corgis" they're actually entirely different breeds, with Pems being a Spitz breed and Cardis being closer related to dachshunds. There's also the fact that paying for such a dog is directly contributing to these people breeding more unhealthy dogs, and clearly don't have the breed's best interests in mind. Sorry if it feels like we're dumping on you, Kingtheninja, we just don't want you to get stuck with a puppy with serious health issues, or for people to irresponsibly breed genetic defects into the breed. If you and your fiancee are flexible there are a number of ways to go about getting a slightly older corgi (or corgi mix, which is what this breeder is offering you). I live in Indiana so my Petfinder searches turn up a handful of corgis and corgi mixes pretty close to you in Michigan. Rescues are another great way to go, here's a list of ones in Michigan. There is also the Ohio Valley Corgi Rescue which is a pretty big organization, as well as several smaller rescues peppered throughout the Great Lakes area. My Tegan came from these folks. If you can be patient, purebred corgis come through shelters and rescues pretty frequently, and corgi mixes even more often. The breeder you're looking at is asking for an exorbitant amount of money for a mixed breed that was bred purposefully. I've not had much if any problems with Sam. Her stomach sensitivity is not from breeding I believe, is just something that can happen in any dog. Gimme a few hours and I'll see what I can dig up.

Hello Corgi thread! My poor little buddy Cable, 8-year-old corgi, just got diagnosed with an injured ACL. The vet is going off of symptoms and palpitation, though no imaging or exploratory surgery was done. The symptoms over the past few months have been limping and holding up his left hind leg after exercise (especially fetch). Although at this point the vet thinks conservative treatment is warranted (rest and Rimadyl), he could need surgery in the future, and he absolutely cannot play fetch for the rest of his life. This is pretty devastating for Cable - he is super into fetch to the point of being a bit neurotic about it. It's crazy to think just a few years ago he was the king of the dog park who outran even the big dogs. I've been trying to think of outdoor activities he can do in the backyard that are easy on the limbs and don't require intense running and turning, but I can't think of any. We've also got a camping trip coming up to a lake that is his favorite place, but he won't be able to fetch sticks in the water. Goons, can you help me think of things to keep Cable happy and busy that aren't going to destroy his knee? Here he is napping by my desk. This pic makes him look super fat, but he's really only a few pounds overweight from his weigh-in at the vet today.

The vet was concerned with the lead-up to swimming because Cable likes to leap straight into the water. If we ease him into the water, I think that'd be a great idea! I live in Idaho, though, so that wouldn't be possible in the winter months. Long walks instead, maybe, and puzzle balls?

We had to cut back on Josie's activities because of joint issues in her front leg. Puzzle balls are a great idea and keep her busy for hours on end. Might take the opportunity to do some fun training, like get that, do this, good dog type thing. Corgi's usually like feeling useful even if they don't understand the purpose.

I must've gotten a special corgi, Igby is deathly afraid of water. He can swim fine, but once the water is up to about chest level he's done. Whenever I'm in a pool, he'll run around the edge at full speed and stop every so often to lick the water until I get out. Well, either that or he trips and falls in.

Panda loves swimming. It's one of her favorite things but she will NOT jump into a body of water unless she can gradually submerge herself. The first step in my parents pool is as far as she goes but she'll tread water all day at the dog park swimming hole because of it's gradual descent into deeper water.

Any recommendations for how to satisfy Tegan's burning desire to rip and tear squeakers out of toys, shred ropes, etc? I guess I'm looking for something she can destroy that isn't a pain to clean up or that puts her at risk of swallowing something harmful, preferably something I could put back together for repeated use.

 There are toys that are meant to be de-stuffed/restuffed. It's not exactly the same, but dogs find it pretty satisfying. I would still supervise use though.

Got Panda interested in a white and pink rope toy once. She shredded the poo poo out of it and then the next day, ran around whimpering as I tried to remove all the string that she ate as it hung out of her butt. Stupid dogs.

Our boys are only given nylabones, most KONGs, Chuck-it balls, or cow bones (the bleached plain kind). Anything else gets destroyed, dismembered, and (partially) digested.
