Hmm. That could work! That could work indeed. I just want to use the Crisis because it's hands down my favorite 40k model, but I'd rather play a better game!

We never got to an Asterian walker unit in the Deadzone KS, but I'm sure they were already thinking of one, even if they didn't have concepts for one.

Hey, are the crisis suits you're talking about on 20mm bases? (Is it obvious I don't know Tau very well?) Asterians have a specialist jump trooper called a Black Talon, which I'm sure will be a squad type in full on Warpath, looks like this

Beefier Cypher, a smaller crisis suit maybe?

Alas, they use 40mm bases. Worst case I just display 'em or play some 40k on the side or whatever, but hopefully something'll come up I can counts-as them for!

Hey guys, my FLGS has a Baldr's Armoured Battalion on clearance for $70 :canada: and I'm wondering if anyone has ordered spare metal parts from Mantic? I'm hoping to use them for an Abyssal Dwarf army and am tempted to get them if I can get the metal conversion parts.

I just nip down to the warehouse whenever I want bits :)

From what I've heard they're dead good about sorting out bits orders. Contact them through the form here: http://www.manticgames.com/contact.html to work out a deal of some sort.

It might be an idea to look up unboxings like this one to get an idea of what sprues there are.

Despite awaiting on a huge shipment of Battlezones in the Deadzone second shipment, I've also gone ahead and backed this Kickstarter, since I've noticed that the squares are 1.6" a side. This means the double-wide set is 3.2" and so would be very suitable for Deadzone. I can have regular missions with the Battlezone terrain and then occasionally some sweet indoor missions where smaller strike forces can perform custom infiltration/sabotage objectives.

It says coloured, so I'm assuming its like Descent, where all the heroes are one colour, the low level baddies another, and the high level baddies a third.

If that's the case I'm OK with that. Still not convinced about the "preassembled" part, trying to paint preassembled Descent minis gave me fits.

Yep coloured plastic like their Mars Attacks or Loka stuff (or Gears of War boardgame).

I'm not a huge board gamer, much less dungeon crawlers, but definitely looking forward to this for all the Kings of War characters we get. I loved every one of the sculpts on show at the open day.

Hero Quest was my first proper boardgame - I still have it, but while all the pieces are still good the rules don't really stand up anymore. Hoping DKQ assumes the mantle, the sculpts so far have all looked great

Pierzak posted:

Boardgame distributors would not have picked the game up unless they were single piece or preassmbled, harsh reality, and they really want this game hitting mainstream shelves for mainstream money.

Think of it as the better Mars Attacks sells to the general public, the more money they have to spend on making Warpath awesome, and maybe the simplified Deadzone ruleset becomes a popular license like Wings of Glory/War with X-Wing and Attack Wing

Yeah, Preassembled helps people who are just looking for a boardgame - think of it as a gateway drug to the hardcore gaming scene - first they play a few board games, then you give them some games with minis, then BAM! their trying to figure out the paint scheme to their new awesome army!

Didn't a lot of board gamers think their (unassembled) Deadzone figures had broken apart in shipping? I remember a lot of "everything is broken!" comments, and their plastic is near unbreakable.

The Dreadball Xtreme pledge manager is now open for non-ks backers to jump in and get the KS packages, presumably minus a couple of exclusive minis

Also the Mantic webstore has been running a World Cup related promo based on eliminated countries and the goal difference for England - you have the rest of the day to get 20% off orders over $50 if you're in a country eliminated/not attending, and they'll have new discounts going forward as further countries are eliminated, ie the US made it to the next round. Plus if you spend over $25 you get a free battlezone sprue. Deals galore.

Also I've decided some Goblins come from families and clans with old histories and traditions - when a Goblin ascends to command of his own heavy weapon position, they shed their birth name and take on the name of the gun until their death. Should the Goblin fall in battle and the gun survive, as often happens, then the apprentice Goblin - normally assigned to carry ammunition, fuel and parts - then takes on the position and the name in turn. Any gun without a name is anathema to these Goblins, and no matter how perfect the condition they will not salvage one that has none.

Yeah, although the primary benefit of the anti-cav stuff is to be able to receive a charge from them with a relatively cheap unit and survive it and I wouldn't trust a troop to do that every time. And flyers, who would probably be hampered, can just ignore a lone troop.

Basically, you want regiments.

Yeah Regiments seem to be the sweet spot in most cases. Also is Endless Horde just Horde but bigger?

Rulebook Heavily
Sep 18, 2010

Yeah, it's just a bigger horde. And troublesome to deal with, at that. One of the main features of the Endless Horde is the ridiculous amount of space it takes up, which makes it a really great blocker unit in a way its stats don't necessarily show.

No sorry, the K&L and Basilean Legacy supplements are out of print at the moment. Mantic are looking into doing a reprint of a combined book, but the print run has run out and at the current rate of sale they'd be unlikely to sell a 2nd print run of either before the next edition of KoW where they might become invalid.

The PDFs are up on the Wargame Vault: http://www.wargamevault.com/browse.php?manufacturers_id=4117

K&L is $8.55 and Basilean Legacy is $4.99. Sucks that there aren't any physical copies available (except for 2nd hand) but they're kind of in limbo until something can be worked out that's financially viable for Mantic. Ronnie is keen on printing a Kings of War 1.5 edition with all the combined supplements so it is likely to happen, but I don't think it'll happen before the end of the year.

My honest review is that you're not missing out on a whole lot with the Kings & Legends supplement. Basilean Legacy is awesome though.

I decided to go for some terrain since the discount handily helped cover the shipping! The savings on a full army deal should be pretty fantastic.

All of the Undead army deals are fantastic, this is the most expensive one but it has essentially everything you'll need aside from standard bearer/necromancer characters and every unit is useful. 25% off of that is crazy.

Anyway, I was meaning more anyone have particular recommendations for specific army deals. That Ilona's Black Wolf Templars is tempting but it might be out of my price range; I was thinking more along the lines of getting two of the $175 army deals like Baldr's Armoured Battalion and the Bloodmire Legion or something. Either those two (or a different combo) or maybe just the BWT.
