The tang of Swordsman online are goofy and are called Tong. Their sets deal with snaring the enemy and have a few useful escapes. But most of their attacks are skill shots making the action mode control scheme almost required. You deal with guns, traps, poisons, and then later on, machine guns, flamers, mines, rockets, smoke bombs, and cannons. Skills are listed here Sadly no damage info from in the tooltips.

From what i gathered there will be a wipe next week when they go from closed to open beta. That may explain the very quick leveling pace we are enjoying. i fear the "real" pace will be much closer to the usual korean mmo grind. The game is so far (lv 30) so un-challenging that you can play it like a html website. click quest link, click accept or reward, click action, click name of npc to kill (you will walk to it and attack, auto attack will do the job, just take longer) rinse, repeat until level up. Eventually they give you a kid to look after but that little strumpet can run as fast as a horse. Made a female toon to try five venom and "OH MY GOD THE EYES!". Also : jiggling breast physics, and the slider was not even halfway to max. whats the most "asshat in a top hat" school so far ? i know sun and moon are good candidate but there must be other with potentials. Shaolin are mostly self buff and health regen.

Jumping on the Swordsman Online wagon. Applied to guild as Jaiden. I like some of the ideas for classes and combat seems fun, it's quite a grind though. Hopefully the PvP is gonna be good.

The dailys / guild stuff fixes that crawl as well. Hijacking is like 200K if you do a blue one. Escorting is another 150K. Bamboo is like 2 levels. The metal gear kidnapping trio is another 150K or so. The guild events are even more. If we can get them to work. Once you hit 40 you get open dungeons with no pvp restrictions or penalties.

So people keep asking how you level up your second set. At level 50, you will be done leveling up your first set. Then you get new dailys and some old dailys that give you scrolls that can be used as such. We don't know if there is a limit on that, but I should hit 50 before the end of beta.

Hole Wolf posted:Speaking of vagrant kicks, what the gently caress is the three-kick chain? You have 2 charging moves. One of them is when you kick them down and fly up into the air and you can use it twice within 6 seconds. The other is a charge that you can use 3 times within 2 seconds of one another and the third time you do a backflip kick that sends the opponent flying if they don't parry. Effectively leaves you with 5 charge moves and the rage is single target. This means anyone with bad ping just stands there getting kicked to death and can't do poo poo. Also the feint is pretty fast and sends them flying on parry break.

We started to look into the guild war stuff today. We have 3 options. Show of force, force pass, and take station. Guilds can own land that is not a town and that battle is coming up on sunday. This might be a one time thing. Take station lets you fight someone for the HQ and we can't do that without an item as well. Force pass opens a map and I got no idea what that means, maybe we fight to go pass a zone instead of expanding linearly. Show of force lets us choose a target, beat up two of their npcs to ruin their functions for an hour, and deface their guild standard letting us draw graffiti on their base. Each team gets 30 people to bring in and that is set in the guild list, no groups needed. We have a medic at spawn that some times works. The guards are level 50 and beat our rear end. We challenged a guild, made friends with them afterwards, but only got one of their npcs. No rewards for winning or losing. They lost their feast npc which took away feasts for an hour but they don't even have that function available yet cause of no building.

The third set for Emei is really cool. You get some ridiculously long range snipe attacks that I think even beat Tong on range. You also get a long range grab that throws someone into the air, keeps them there, then slams them down. Though most everything else is a skillshot but if you can actually hit them, you do insane damage.

I really enjoyed Age of Wushu - for a while. I was interested in swordsman but saw a lot of negative reviews on (non-goon) websites. Didn't realize this was the 'swordsman online' thread - is it worth playing? Better than Wushu? I keep seeing people saying it had more WoW-like combat where you had to stand still a lot as you'd never have enough stamina for anything, is that true?
|
# ? Jun 20, 2014 04:19 |
It's.. different. Swordsman is a lot easier to get into, but it's very.. Chinese-Martial-Arts-Themed-WoW but with combat more like.. gently caress I don't even know how to describe it. Like Diablo and Age of Wushu had a lovechild and it grew up in a predominantly Skillshot neighborhood. The progression is quite fast, or at least, appears to be fast. The numbers get bigger far more frequently and there's a lot less picky poo poo to train. I'm not sure how quickly you achieve a comparable increase in power. The progression system is more like WoW compared to Age of Wushu having a progression system more like EVE Online. You can hardly tell it's F2P-with-cash-shop though, compared to Age of Wushu rubbing the loving cash shop in your face constantly. The stamina thing is.. it's not like you're constantly stuck in one place but it does feel like stamina is always the limiting factor when you're fighting. I've literally never died from running out of mana and being unable to cast, for example, but when I have died, running out of stamina is almost always what caused it (or I got instakilled). The fun jumping skills not working in instances is loving bullshit, though. hailthefish fucked around with this message at 04:36 on Jun 20, 2014 |

The game is wushu on rails. It has a graphics set that is characterized like wow. You level up quickly until 35. At 40 more things open up but it can require some grinding. This is going to be the major problem. The grinding is solved in guilds with the daily guild events. There are a ton and it is good experience. The combat is iffy. You got a lot of moves where you stand still. Crowd control is rock paper scissors with its different types. Stamina is used for jumping, running, or blocking. In the pvp arenas this is really important since some moves can be jumped over and some times blocking is really important. But most people won't do this since it leaves you without the ability to move. Wushus combat is faster, more mobile, and has more broken things in it. We don't really know the effect of levels on pvp yet. Perfect world has a bad rep but this is perfect world Beijing, so it isn't a normal perfect world game. The auto pathing system is so good that you won't really know where the hell you are for a long time until you stop using it. Then the map opens up a bit more and open pvp gets better, but the map sizes could be larger. The quests have a lot of kill 10 bear asses but between those quests are normally something visually that will catch your eye or make you stop to ask what the hell is going on. At one point you get drunk by drinking for like a minute, fight a monkey who you think is sun wukong, and while drunk go hit on someone, then sober up to find out that they are a statue and some old gently caress was laughing at you the entire time. Then you go get some bear asses. The skills in the game are a bit more complex. At level 5 you get your first set. At level 10 you get your last skill in that set. At level 20 you get your second set. At level 25 you get a blank custom set. At level 40 you get your third set. Your custom set gets the basic attack of one set and then abilities of any of the others. This makes pvp rather interesting since you don't know exactly what the enemy will have. At level 50 your first set is at its maximum level. Now you start getting scrolls to level up the other sets as you see fit. Hit harder, have a less of a cool down, or take less power and hit more. You also have ultimate moves that use 10 bars of your ultimate gauge. You also get advanced moves of things you already have that use ultimate gauge as well. There are also other skills that drop in parts from events, dungeons, treasure maps, and more. We haven't completed one yet. There are two advanced classes with lost art skills as well. None of those skills are in the cash shop. Item forging stuff is and crafting books, but that is all. The game has enough going on to keep you busy and we don't know everything about this game yet. Been playing with some other classes besides harmony, including Zethyr and 5 Poisons. Think I'll be going 5P for launch, seems pretty fun with a bunch of AOE stuff. Also apparently every class has a unique blocking animation, dodge animations, and different abilities and appearances for your first pet. This made playing around different classes pretty fun. I'd definitely recommend making a few alts and see what seems neat. There's a decent wiki at http://swordsman.gamepedia.com/Swordsman_Wiki and has an overview on classes, and some of the sets.
