Other really good fast or fastish food (pizzas, Chinese, Mexican, or whatever) would be good to know about as well. I live in Bath. The Bath Brew House do really good burgers, although a Grillstock has opened last weekend as well, which looks amazing. If you're in Bath this weekend, Market also does good burgers, but sadly they're closing for good on Sunday as a casino is being built on the spot. Pig and Fiddle do more exotic burgers like ostrich and camel, and have live music as well. There's also a GBK if you wanna be like that. On the faster/takeaway side, there's Schwartz Bro, which has been around for ages, although I've never actually eaten there. I've also heard decent things about Manhattan Burger and usually go for Billy Burger if I can't be bothered to actually leave the house and I want it delivered. This is already turning into a pretty hefty post, so briefly, for pizza delivery I'd go for Cafe 84, and there's a Mission Burrito in Bath for a quick burrito. Happy to recommend anything else food/drink wise that you might want to know about. Bath is absolutely amazing for food and drink, especially as everything is so close to each other, which I'm pretty sure results in the subpar places shutting down pretty quickly.

Apparently we're already planning to do the Roman baths and the 'circus', whatever that is. The Circus is a Georgian roundabout, basically. It's nicer than it sounds, but probably won't tide you over for more than a few minutes. It's next to the similarly impressive-looking Royal Crescent, too. Apart from the landmarks you mention, there's Bath Abbey, which is right next to the Roman Baths and has pretty impressive views from the belltower (details on how to get up there here). Pulteney Bridge and Great Pulteney Street are near the Abbey and Baths, and will be immediately recognisable from literally any Regecy-era movie you've ever seen (and the recent Les Miserables). The Holburne Museum at the top of Great Pulteney Street showcases a mad Victorian's enormous art collection and got a relatively recent facelift, making it much more interesting than it used to be. It has a whole bunch of outre art exhibitions every month as well, from light displays to an enormous inflatable 'colour maze'. There's also the Costume Museum, which isn't really my thing, but would definitely be up the street of any of your group who are interested in fashion. The biggest and grandest park is Victoria Gardens, which also has a pretty fun crazy-golf course, and a short way outside of town there's the American Museum, which is a quite impressive example of what it sounds like. Further out (about half an hour's drive away), there's the beautiful Stourhead landscape garden and the Longleat safari and adventure park (which really does have something for everyone, provided you don't mind the odd water buffalo using your car's wing-mirror to clean its ears). Anything more specific? I've lived in Bath for most of my life, so I may well be able to help.

Party Boat posted:We have to beat Costa Rica AND Italy have to win both their remaining matches AND we have to score enough to make sure we come 2nd on goal difference. Goal difference isn't relevant, ties are broken on the result of the game between the teams, with goals scored only counted if that result is a draw. If we draw with Costa Rica we're out anyway regardless of the other results.

In order for England to qualify to the knock-out stages: 1) Italy must beat Costa Rica 2) Italy must beat Uruguay 3) England must beat Costa Rica by enough goals to overturn their goal difference deficit. Needless to say, nobody has managed to get out of the group stage of the World Cup after losing their first two matches. I have no idea where "goal difference is irrelevant" came from, everything I've read indicates that goal difference is the first method to break ties in the group stage.

Delusibeta posted:In order for England to qualify to the knock-out stages: I've just realised that in that three way tie the results rule will also be irrelevant (all three will have one win and one loss), so the goal difference will be the tie breaker (or goals scored, they keep loving around with that rule). e: It is indeed goal difference but even then the permutations get complex because in losing to Italyand England their GD will be at best zero and England's at worst minus one and now I have a headache) e2: And also in losing to Italy Uruguay's GD would by definition be worse than both England and Costa Rica's at the end of this so I *think* it boils down to we must beat Costa Rica by at least two goals, minus however many more than one goals Italy beat them by. goddamnedtwisto fucked around with this message at 23:57 on Jun 19, 2014 |

Also, if you've ever had even the slightest pleasure out of drinking coffee, be sure to check out Colonna & Small's, they're consistently one of/the best coffee houses in the UK. Yeah, I thought you were overreacting until I read the article. Killed two children because of their own stupidity and it's a tragedy, people need to be educated better about the safety features of boats, but someone starves to death because they lost their benefits and it's their own fault, they should have studied harder in school. It's certainly not the kids faults, but it's a loving good example of the class bullshit that's going on despite peoples best efforts to not give a poo poo.

This is the weirdest thing - a lot of the time the news acts like we're in some future utopia, where bad things that happen are notable anomalies, so you get these reports about A Thing That Happened To Some Middle Class People as though similar and worse things don't go on almost daily. There was that guy who went missing (and ended up being dead) while working in another country at some nature reserve. Worrying and terrible for his family and friends but does it need to be on the national news? There's the massive amount of Madeline McCann coverage every time someone picks up a pen somewhere - children go missing every single day, and putting them on the news would actually increase the chances of finding them. I hope she can be found but statistically it's pretty unlikely at this point, and the fixation on this single case makes it seem like this is the one unsolved incident in our society. And then there was that group of people in yachts that went missing, and the US Coast Guard called off the search after they determined they'd done all they realistically could. Is it me or did that whole ARE BOYS media outcry end up diverting a warship to look for them?

In Crusader Kings 2 terms Ed Miliband is that promising but antisocial second son with a huge edu score you send to be educated by the most learned of folk. Then you and your handsome warrior heir die of plague and now the country is in Ed's hands and you scroll over all the negative social traits and facepalm as your kingdom splinters.

General China posted:My point exactly- either Maddy is winning the biggest game of hide and seek ever or the media, police and establishment value middleclass children over workingclass children. A lot of that comes down to the fact that the McCanns employ PR people to keep the story in the media - if the parents of missing working class children would only bootstrap themselves up to have enough money to employ their own PR people then I'm sure the level of coverage would be the same. Incidentally there's an old police rule of thumb that the more noise parents are willing to make in public about their missing kid the more suspicion should fall on them. It's only a rule of thumb, not a universal law, and the McCanns definitely have nothing at all whatsoever to hide, so i don't even know why I mentioned that.

The fact that the mum rang sky news before she bothered the local police with her missing kid then and turned up to police interviews with a loving press officer, along with other stuff like aaar maddies dna and corpse scent being found in a car the parents rented weeks after her disappearance- I'm leaning towards the original investigators theory that the parents returned from a night on the piss to find their daughter died accidentally, panicked and hid the body, then moved it a few weeks later.
