So I haven't played Sims 3 in ages, but this LP has piqued my interest again. I enjoyed the more focused gameplay in Sims Medieval more than the absolute sandbox that is Sims 3. With that in mind, is University worth twenty Simoleans? I have, uh, Supernatural and Ambitions I think, so do either of those have features (besides werewolf wizardry) that mesh well with campus life?

As long as we're on the topic of picking the game up, how does the console version compare? I saw the XBox 360 version in a used store and that seems to be the least painful method of acquisition and play for me. The PS2 version of Sims 2 suffered from horrible load times and hilarious lag in any animation that used a prop, but with luck they've optimized that a bit.

Man, I've got a dedicated gaming PC with whiz-bang gofast parts. I remember base Sims 3 taking multiple minutes to load last time I fired it up. I don't think platform would be the primary issue for performance. The back end of the Sims codes must just be a bottomless cascade of undocumented programming malfeasance.

I think University is one of the best expansion packs for this cycle, but it does really come down to personal opinion and play style. I've never played the console version, because I haven't been big on them in the past, so I can't comment on that. But University, World Adventures, and Into the Future are among the more "guided" expansion packs available, if that's what you're looking for.

Update 15 - Seriously, Everybody Hates Muscle Wizard   Its afternoon on Tuesday and Snuggles, Eevee and apples have just returned from class while our Fine Arts goons (and a very tired looking Jimmy4400) have their lecture!   Back at home, Eevee gets this want. Keep dreamin', buddy.   I'm tired of apples and Snuggles doing nothing so I send apples to do some science while she has some downtime.  Snuggles disapproves of the loss of his staring spot.   Speaking of apples though, she has enough lifetime happiness for a reward! Since the thread voted to have a party tonight, I'm grabbing Legendary Host which makes all your guests super fuckin' stoked about your parties. They will always come if invited and they'll always have a great time. Although after the failure that was the goons' last party, anything is a step up.  I'm getting super sick of Snuggles not doing anything so I bought him this! This is a martial arts dummy and since Snuggles is Disciplined he will not only learn the Martial Arts skill super quick, but he'll have a great time doing it as well. Hopefully this gives him something to do other than stare out of windows.    FUUUUUUUUUUUU-   Party's all planned! I invited Thesaya and Mindfang, as well as some other non-goons so the housemates can interact with new people. We'll see how that goes later.   I'm sorry that I haven't focused much on Eevee here but he came home from class and instantly sat down to watch TV. Snuggles is ignoring his new toy and opts to brood in the hallways instead.     In preparation for the party, I bestow a juice keg on the house. This should liven things up a little. It works to get people together almost instantly.  Rainbow!    Roar joins Eevee on the TV couch, and Dachshunds is the first one to enjoy the new keg. At 3:45pm.   We get this notification two hours before the party starts, but look! Jimmy 4400 has come to visit! I invite him in to join the party and help provide some much needed social interaction for our hermit goons.  Well okay then!  Wait...what?   Goddammit Dashchunds. Snuggles is having a whale of a time in the bathroom despite the fight happening less than a foot away from him. Sim fights are ridiculous so here's a gif of Dachshunds vs Muscle Wizard!    While that's happening, the party has begun! This random student brings us deep fried ice cream. Thanks dude?   That, eating only apples, is what we call negging.   This guy takes a liking to both of the girls. Playing the field, I see.  Snuggles lights a fire outside, so I guess he's going to be stinky as hell in about ten seconds.   Mindfang is serenading people on guitar so apples and Jimmy slow dance  while Roar tells Jimmy4400 how much he loving loves money.  While the middle school dance carries on in the hallway, Dachshunds, Snuggles and Muscle Wizard get stinky around the fire.   Roar farts out some rainbows and gives himself a lucky moodlet! What he's actually doing is casting a luck charm on himself. It drains his magic power but gives him a big mood boost and gives him more magic skill points!   Something is happening outside..    Inside, I am not regretting the purchase of the juice keg one bit! Everyone is hanging out around it and having a good time, and I even give Snuggles a poke to do something brave and silly. But suddenly, I hear shouting from outside...what's going on now...?  apples, I didn't know you had it in you!   some Dutch Courage and Snuggles (with some help from Mindfang) pulls off a pretty awesome keg stand. I tried to capture this so I could gif it but FRAPS would have none of it and decided to crash halfway through recording. I'll try to get it next time though because its pretty fun!  apples has successfully beaten the poo poo out of Muscle Wizard. This is the second fight he's lost today, he's not very strong for a guy called Muscle Wizard.   Back inside, Miles and Mindfang converse about vampirism, and Roar comes out of his shell and tries a keg stand with his good pal Jimmy. You go, Roar!   Mindfang leaves the party pretty satisfied, and Jimmy gets an early night for once      Thesaya breaks out the guitar, which interrupts Jimmy going home as he stands and watches her fumble around with the strings. Seriously, she is not good at guitar. With that, its midnight and the party is over, having been much more successful and fun than the last attempt. Not only that but our goons aren't all stinky, hungry and tired and they're ready to face the new day relatively functional! So where's everyone at midnight?      apples is dreaming about veggies, Snuggles and Eevee are just getting into bed, Roar is grabbing a midnight snack and Dachshunds tried to go to bed but she's starving hungry so she instantly got up to join Roar in snacktown. See you tomorrow!

The fights are breaking out relatively early I see. Poor Muscle Wizard, I don't know why he gets picked on so much. Only thing I can assume is that Daschshunds berated his ignorance a few times, something Nerd sims do WAY too much when left alone, seriously. It's one of the most annoying things sims do autonomously, along with that Capture the Moment thing (whatever it even does) and feeding Cats a treat (to the point where they cancel the "go to work" command for it). Also Ice Cream, I'd assume, but because I never gave my sims that thanks to this lp, I never had troubles with that The Berate Ignorance thing probably brought them low enough to open up the autonomous use of mean interactions, and from then on it went downhill. On another note, a funny thing I noticed with Teenager Sims, when they have learned to drive, I used to send them to school a bit early, and then halfway to school or when they already were in school, they'd cancel that just to run home to catch the bus, by foot. Which of course led to them missing it and thus missing school because surprise you can't cancel it out.

You can indeed target other people with the luck charm! I'm not sure if the rainbow farts are a result of casting the charm or receiving it though. "Accuse of impropriety" can come up in random conversations and has the same negative relationship hit as "accuse of cheating" and is only rivaled by witches casting love charms because they're bored.

Yep, Muscle Wizard has never (to my knowledge) been mean to one of our housemates unless they were mean to him first. Both of the fights in the last update were started by apples and Dachshunds, not Muscle Wizard. Poor dude just wants to be a wizard in peace

Update 16 - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Snuggles Its midnight on Wednesday! Dachshunds and Roar are still awake and Dachshunds is not a happy camper.   ...But the people who attended the party are! Legendary Host means that all of apples' parties will be kickin' rad, and everyone who is invited, or who just happened to be in the house at the time, will get this happy moodlet.   Roar attempts to consume a hot dog by shoving it up his nose, Dachshunds eats ice cream fritters with Asala. Although to be honest, it looks more like really lovely uncooked steak with some ice cream on top. Asala is eating like this because she's a werewolf and they like to eat like doggies, even when they're not transformed.   Roar has a nice chat with his wizardbro. Aww For the record, I have installed a mod to disable berating ignorance autonomously since it was seriously messing with the housemates' opinions of Muscle Wizard and causing them to drop everything to go yell at the poor guy, so I decided to give him a break.  Dachshunds finally goes to bed, Roar gets this want to give Muscle Wizard a nice friendly hug     Some pre-bedtime TV and reading, and Roar is off to bed as well.    A few hours later, its almost class time for everyone but Jimmy. You don't need to see everyone waking up and going to class but I took these screenshots to show you the awesome effects that happen with colder weather. Its early autumn so the days are getting colder and the windows and grass outside are getting covered in frost through the night. Its a really subtle effect but I love it so much.  The housemates really haven't been interacting with people so I set them to socialise in class so they can meet people outside of their house.   Left alone to his own deviced, Jimmy makes his opinion on these gross hot dogs very clear.    He spends the two hours alone drinking beer and playing guitar. Here's a look at his skills, he's doing okay but he's far from achieving his lifetime wish.  Instead of the boring "[sim] met [sim] at work" dialog, you get these little prompts when your sim meets someone new at class. Its another little touch that gives the game and the people in it a little more character.   I spot Cathulhu outside of Eevee's class and outside Roar's there is a Fizzicist, who I did not recognise without her glasses.    d'aaw, Roar has a crush   Its time for Jimmy's class so off he goes, and apples wishes for a waterslide. Not in this cold, buddy!   She drowns her sorrows at the lack of slides with some ice cream and beer.   Remember that random dude who brought us those weird ice cream steak fritters at last nights party? He's returning the favour and has invited us to his own party! Neat! Looks like apples has new plans for the night!    She celebrates by playing in the leaves like a child.  Playing in leaves has kind of the same effects as bonfires. Its fun as hell and sims loving love it but it gets them very stinky very quickly. Look at how happy she is though, would you deny her her fun?    Eevee gets that dumb podium opportunity so I send him to do that, and Snuggles meets a new friend!  Dachshunds and Roar are out of class and they're both exhausted after staying up far too late last night.  When its cold outside, Sims wear their outerwear which is supposed to represent them bundling up in the cold. Snuggles concept of bundling up needs some work, I think. Either that or he's cosplaying Muscle Wizard.     Eevee is podium-ing, apples is running to class and the sleepy art students decide to curl up on a bench outside the art building. This is actually a really really bad idea, when sims are in the cold for too long, even if they're in their outerwear, they'll get a neutral moodlet. If they have that for too long without going inside to warm up? They can freeze to death.   Eevee's plan for world peace: Cute bunnies. He learns the Charisma skill though which will make it much easier for him to make friends!   Snuggles relaxes with a beer at home and I take this artistic shot of the campus at twilight. I cannot say this enough but the weather effects in this game are awesome and add so much more atmosphere. Again, the little touches make this game pretty pretty sometimes.    Roar get this want which is easily taken care of. Then he and Dachshunds wake up. Roar looks scared because he doesn't know where the gently caress he is, Dachshunds looks like she's about to go on a killing spree. I feel like these pictures are a perfect visual representation of their personalities.   a grade boost for Eevee!   Back at home, Snuggles plays some video games, Dachshunds makes some salad. At the student union, Eevee is super pleased with himself after pooping. You go buddy!    Some of you in the thread were curious about whether Snuggles would use the martial arts dummy autonomously after he'd gained the skill so let's do an experiment. The dummy is brought inside to stop the poor guy freezing to death in the -1 temperatures outside. Exercise might counteract the effects of the cold but I'm not sure if they put that much thought into it and I don't really want to risk it so off he goes with his training!    apples is super fuckin' excited about being reminded about this party so I send her off there to meet and greet!   Dachshunds stares at Eevee while he eats and Roar heads to an actual bed instead of a bench in the freezing cold.   Jimmy is making friends outside of his class (Hi AcesHigh!) and apples appears to have been kidnapped by this lady on her way to the party and is now playing frisbee outside of the art building. She's making friends either way I guess!  Dachshunds thinks about one of the few things that make her happy - being clean.  Snuggles is...not good at this   but he perseveres and now has a nice new outfit to show off! Good job, Snuggles!   Eevee heads to bed and the game tells us something that we already knew. Thanks, game!   Meanwhile, Snuggles has gone outside to chat with Muscle Wizard about the cold. Its actually really nice that nobody has been mean to him today, it gives me something else to talk about.  Here's a fun thing! Werewolves interacting with each other! Asala here has given the werewolf curse to Miles, who was actually at our party yesterday. Werewolves interact a lot like dogs do, sniffing each other and whatnot but they can also fight, which these two did pretty much immediately. Instead of being a negative interaction though, for werewolves its quite positive! Neat! With that though, we're at midnight! What are our goons doing?    Everyone else is in bed, science is happening, apples is cooking, and Snuggles is drinking beer in his martial arts gear. Fantastic! Tomorrow is Thursday and the last day before final exams. Since we'll actually be getting our grades for both terms this week, its time to start making your predictions! Who do you think is doomed to failure?

You can use alchemical potions and ancient spells unknown to mortals...to help you bring an android to sentience so that he can garden your magical life-extending fruits and rake your leaves while you vacation in France to give makeovers.

Update 17 - gently caress Werewolves  Its just past midnight on Thursday and apples and Snuggles are the only goons awake. Snuggles is having a late night beer in his martial arts gear and apples is making hot dogs. They swan around for a little bit until it reaches 1am and then inexplicably..    ...Jimmy and Roar wake up for no real reason, eat some hot dogs and discover their attraction to eating only apples.   Miles, the guy who Asala gave the werewolf curse to in the last update, is still hanging around and Snuggles chats to him about comics. He also gets this want to spar with someone which would normally be an awesome idea! Its a great way to meet people and level up your skill but unfortunately you require at least one rank in martial arts to be able to spar with someone, and I can guarantee that Snuggles is the only person on campus right now with any points in it. We'll have to try and fix that sometime!    apples heads to bed and Roar and Eevee both go out in 0 degree weather, in their jammies, to play in some leaves. Wierdos.  5:30am and everyone is back in bed. Eevee gets a grand total of half an hours sleep before 6am hits and the game forces him to wake up for his lecture at 8am  Despite me modding out the "berate ignorance" interaction, Dashchunds still finds time (and cause) to yell at Muscle Wizard. gently caress fortune cookies! :angry:   Eevee looks far too happy for a man who has had maybe four and a half hours sleep, who is walking to class at 6:50am, in the rain. Jimmy is...Jimmy, and decides to practice pool in his underpants.   Back in academia, apples has her class activity which consists of her pointing at a skeleton and making thinking noises while she thinks about science-y things. Snuggles and Eevee are at their lecture, where Snuggles takes the opportunity to catch up on his missed sleep.   Back at home with the artgoons, nothing much happens! Dachshunds is showering, Roar is watching TV and Jimmy is still playing pool but at least he put some pants on.  I see how it is, Fizzicist   Class activities for the artgoons started about 20 minutes ago but Dachshunds' AI seems to have gotten confused and she just stands and stares at the wall for a while, making her a tad late. Not sure what happened there.   Now time for a gripe! apples here is soaked, because she just spent the past two hours outside in the rain doing class activities. This could be easily solved by not having the class activities outside but EA didn't think of that because they don't really think about how expansions will work together when they're coding them. If you just had University on its own, it wouldn't be a problem but when you add Seasons, then you end up with your sims getting sad every time they have a class activity outside in spring, autumn or winter. EA is not good at making expansion packs work together at all, which is depressing to me.   Snuggles is on his way back from his lecture, and already he wants to hit the keg and strike a sassy pose.     The artgoons are at their class activity for today! Dachshunds finally stopped staring at the wall and decided to go to class, so she's not here yet. apples has a drink and Snuggles and Eevee take a nap, leaving apples the only goon not in a class or sleeping.    So I make some happen! Even Kloro is getting in on the fun!  There's a goonsim update and one of these things! There are herb plants all over campus that don't grow anywhere else in the game since they're university exclusive plants. You can eat these straight off the bush, put them in food, throw them into a fire, or use the science machine to turn them into scientific samples. In a past update we made some samples out of some lavender so let's do an experiment!  Here's what apples' inventory looks like right now, we have some fruits and veggies, some Super Spice that we made in an earlier update, a rock and a bunch of scientific samples. We can sell these at a science centre but we're not exactly poor right now and apples could use the grade and skill boost from doing some science so let's do the thing!  Wait...what?  Goddammit you dumb werewolf  Dachshunds, lord of fire does not make an appearance since she's at class but luckily, Asala is a badass in her stead and puts out the fire with very little effort. Fire count for this house is now at three.    Insurance once again barely gives us enough to cover the cost of replacing our burnt out appliances, Kloro is still learning things, and an exhausted apples gets a coffee.  The fire truck arrives and the firefighter yells at us for falsely calling emergency services. But...there was a fire. It was just there! Its not my fault that our house is full of badass fire lords!   Dachshunds, Roar, apples and Muscle Wizard are congregating in the garden, chatting about magic while Dachshunds plays with leaves in the background.      Jimmy cheers up our wizard friend by showing off about his mad gamer skillz, and Eevee makes some mac and cheese. These nerds are boring.  Let's go bowling!  We came at a good time!   I replaced the old lovely bar on the first floor with a proper, professional bar. Jimmy chooses to go upstairs to the old, lovely bar up there to get a drink instead.   Everyone socialises in the entrance while Dachshunds and Roar bowl together  ...and then she quickly abandons the game to go pee  while Roar's model stretches and contorts to make it look like his jacket has a face on it.   The bar seems popular, and both apples and this random goonsim who I think is AcesHigh (I forgot to note down the name, sorry!) grab some bar food. That pizza looks really good.  Snuggles decides to try to impress Mindfang by talking about fire. You were barely even there, Snuggles.  :o oh my! Miles is coming up a lot in these past couple of updates, and asks our Dachshunds on a date! I accept because why not?   Snuggles talks about the smoke alarm to Mindfang and Jimmy eats currywurst while this poor lady looks extremely uncomfortable.  I don't know what's happening here but I feel like I'm interupting some kind of secret council meeting.  Roar really depresses me sometimes. He just refuses to socialise. Don't be scared, buddy!  Hooray! Its now midnight on Friday and final exams are in a few short hours. So how are our goons doing?  Dachshunds wishes she was in bed right now.  Jimmy is still hanging out with Uncomfortable Looking Lady.  apples has gone home and passed out dramatically on the floor in exhaustion.  Snuggles has changed into his Muscle Wizard cosplay.  Roar continues to be a wallflower.   Eevee is looking super pleased with himself, despite being starving hungry and seconds away from passing out with exhaustion. See you tomorrow for exam day!

I actually have the next update already screenshotted which means that in my game, our sims are actually already home for their break! So I'm going to set my plan for the break in motion. See, during this LP I was gifted Into The Future and being at University, the goonhouse (and by extension, you the viewers) haven't experienced much of that content. Well, what better place to go during your winter break than into the motherfuckin' future? So we're going to send one lucky student into the future! Each poster gets two votes. You can either vote for two sims, or put both of your votes towards one sim. If you really want your favourite housemate to win, then you can get an extra vote by entertaining the thread with a short story, comic or anything you like, depicting what you think that sim will get up to in futureland! Whoever has the most votes by next Tuesday (that's the 22nd July) gets to go to the future! See you then!
