The social network was barely mentioned in Google's keynote address Wednesday at this week's I/O developer conference, and Manjoo asked Page what was going on with it.

"The service has been growing tremendously," Page insists. "People are always like, 'Oh, what’s going on?' But for us, we're super excited about it because it's a big service, growing continuously, since we launched it, at a high rate, and we’re making it better and better every day."

this was the post that crystallized for google management that they were becoming the new microsoft and caused larry to panic and take over. they tried to get her thrown off the google beat lol

all the a-team players got poached by facebook so they started a new PR division called google x so people wouldn't realize that they are about as innovative as a utility.

when they're not distracting the media/shareholders/employees/potential employees with their equivalent of xerox parc this is what google comes up with when they try to make money lol

Google is quietly testing a service for registering website domains

GoDaddy is about to have some new competition

http://www.theverge.com/2014/6/23/5835560/google-launches-domain-registration-service

google is literally a utility on the internet. the only real new business they are getting into is becoming an ISP lmao (they added a new executive to be in charge of "access and energy" https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/about/company/facts/management/)

as much as I don't like google, having an ISP that wants you to use the internet as much as possible is much better than every other one that doesn't

Facebook Inc's whole thing is gobbling up anybody who looks like they're about to crack facebook.com's network effect. facebook.com is probably going to become a legacy product sooner rather than later because inevitably the next generation grows up and doesn't want to be on the same social network that their parents are on so they go use WhatsApp or whatever instead.

Facebook Inc remains relevant and every 10 years somebody whose facebook clone is in the right place at the right time becomes pornographically rich, everyone's a winner.

Reminder that probably up until quite recently it was basically a requirement to use Facebook's product if you wanted to have sex with college girls and somehow FB didn't manage to parlay that into printing an avalanche of money that would make Apple blush

I mean how do you gently caress that up. I'm not saying I approve of this state of affairs but it is what it is, they cornered the market on the most commercially valuable resource on the planet and completely bungled it.

facebook is stealing share of ad $, and more importantly they're making lots of money in mobile while google stumbles around. larry page has no idea what hes doing which is why having an 80% share of smartphones hasn't made any money other than aping apple's business model with 30% of play store revenue which they also share with carriers and OEMs lol. they revealed at i/o that they paid out $5 bil in the last 12 months so its a pittance.

fb is as good as the people you're connected to. if you add any random fucko you vaguely met it's going to be their dumb bullshit opinions on vaccinations and obama. if you add close friends and family, it's a decent way to keep up with people you don't see regularly.
