Dr.Caligari posted:Anyone have tips for cleaning Fiesta ST rados? At least twice, with two different very soft clothes, I have gotten a bit of dust trapped and scratched the clear coat of the rim. Poisonlizard posted:Yea, I got tired of that within a month and plasti dipped em black. More dirty wheel chat, I'm not sure I've ever cleaned mine since putting them on quite a while ago, reading this thread got me to actually do it finally...it's something I should do constantly considering they're white. I put Opticoat or one of those supposedly fancy coat things on beforehand to hopefully make it easier to clean, I'm pretty sure I put it on wrong (put too much on) but I don't know if it's making a difference in this case. Also painted the inside blue for some subtle (might as well be black from afar) and to hide how bad the barrel would look when dirty. On the other hand it made it kinda hard to see what was clean/dirty when cleaning the barrels. Spraying it down got a good chunk off, kinda curious if a pressure washer would get all the rest or still require some elbow grease: Did the rest by brush and hand (cause the brush couldn't get into all the edges/corners ). It should look a bit brighter than this but it was bright enough to throw off the camera relative to the last shot: Of course after driving around the left over water/rust or whatever in the little crevices leaks out and splatters around. I should just leave a spray bottle and rag in the garage to do a quick spray and wipe now and then instead of letting it become a pain in the rear end again. japtor fucked around with this message at 10:59 on Jun 27, 2014 |

The 2015 Focus ST will have a flat-bottom steering wheel, new rear and front fascia (slightly), cleaned up interior, improved steering and suspension, same powerplant: http://jalopnik.com/2015-ford-focus-st-this-is-it-1596682576 Looks like they went with the electronic parking brake too. Sort of jealous of the interior, that cubbyhole in front of the shifter would be a huge asset in my '13. Wonder if I can switch out my steering wheel?

I don't love the wheel on the current version. I'm also cool with an electronic parking brake. I know that the handbrake is good for MAXXXIMUM HOONAGE but I loving only use the thing to park, so I'd like the extra console room, since that's limited.

Went into get a nail pulled from my tire in my FoST and they found three nails near the sidewalls in three separate tires. On the fourth tire, a wire has poked through the rubber from within. So looks like I'm in the market for a new set of four. Should I stay with the Eagle F1s or go with something else? I live in NC if it helps and plan on buying dedicated winter tires/all weathers this fall.

I had a guy stop next to me at a red light to tell me my tires were sparking going around turns in my Fiesta ST. I assumed I had nails stuck in them or something, but I've not found anything yet and I still have full tire pressure everywhere. So either the Fiesta comes with sparking tires from the factory or the guy was a drunk.

I think I'm gonna throw down for some Michelin pilot super sports unless someone tells me otherwise. I honestly don't know poo poo about tires, the tires that were on it (eagle f1's) were fine as far as I know. I don't know anything. All I know is it is going to cost me a gently caress ton of money.

If you're going with summer tires, check out the Sumitomo HTR ZIII in your size, as far as I can tell they're the best price/performance summer tire out there. I've had then before and just ordered another set for both my cars and I've got to say they're pretty nifty. Tire rack carries them

I'm not sure of their price in the States, but I run Bridgestone Potenza S001s on my Renault and they are fantastic. Noticeably better on dry roads than wet though.

I still swear by my DWS. They're cheap as hell compared to other tires and are a Z rated all season. I have yet to be able to push them past their limit on daily driving and they're better than most in the snow if you want to push the limits of when you switch to/from your snows. Although unfortunately they're supposed to be 50k mile tires but I'm barely going to get around 30k out of them. They're only like 220 each for 19" compared to 300+ for drat near any full on summer tire.

If there's a 4th of July sale at Cobb I will be super tempted to pick up the AP/stage 1 kit for my FiST. The increased red-line and boost restriction removal in 1st and 2nd gears sound like it'll be worth it alone. Everything I've read says that it's good for about an additional 20 ft-lbs of torque and maybe 3-4 HP on 91 octane with the off-the-shelf map. The new v103 maps also include launch control and flat-foot shifting which seem neat but probably won't get used much by me. The kit also now includes the rear motor mount which would fix the horrible clunking noise while shifting quickly at high RPMs. Can anyone who has purchased the AP give their recommendation to push me over the edge? I just received my year-end bonus at work and it's highly tempting right now...

Coolnezzz posted:Can anyone who has purchased the AP give their recommendation to push me over the edge? I just received my year-end bonus at work and it's highly tempting right now... I bought a 'package' (Cobb AP+ Filter) at EdgeAutoSports when they were having a 10% off sale, so I got both for $500. I also opened up the bottom of the air box. The car really does feel 'uncapped' now, although the air filter/box mod made the BPV so loud that some may not like it. But even if you just keep a stock airbox, I recommend picking up the Cobb air filter, or similar. Buying a AP is the best performance per dollar mod you will probably ever be able to buy for a FiST, I fully recommend it. And if it turns out you don't like it for some reason, resell value is always sky-high. The aftermarket is really starting to take off, with numerous vendors selling aftermarket IC's, RMMs and ATP just announcing that they will be shipping bolt-on turbo kits on the 15th. While all of that is tempting, my car is a family truckster first and foremost, so while I might eventually pick up a RMM, IC and DP , I am going to stop short of any mod that might sacrifice reliability or low-end torque for top end performance. I was gonna mention them for the guy earlier as a cheaper option but when I looked it up it was on par with what he was going with, around $170-180 iirc. They're on sale and under $200 for some of the 19" ones though vv I made up for it by running 15" winters on steelies I think it was like 700 for everything including roadhazard. APR is having their sale right now and tunes are 100 off, think I might go ahead and tune the TDI and keep it for another couple years instead of being first on the block for the new R.

Went with x4 michelin pilot super sports for my replacements on the FoST. They're...nice? haven't had time to really try them out but the ride is quieter and seems like a slight bit softer. But they are brand new so I don't know that'll change. I've already put about 400 miles on them since I got them on Thursday....during the hurricane to pick up someone from a diverted flight. They handle water well!

What would everyone recommend for decent performance all season tires? I need something with good tread wear but that also isn't a slouch for performance. Normally I'd just buy something like the Michelin Super Sports but i have a big commute every day and its Canada. Car is an Audi A3.

Don't use all season tires unless you live in the Okanagan or similar, if you get real Canadian winter an all-season compromise is always poo poo. Steelies and Blizzaks in winter, three season proper tires the other half of the year. All season tires are universally poo poo compared to a season-appropriate tire, year-round.

My FoST has a problem now. It's idling wrong and tries to die when going from mid-high RPM's back to idle. The CEL is on and the vehicle health report uses a lot of words to tell me 'Take it to the dealership' which I was going to do anyway, but nothing that is actually helpful. I have an appointment for Monday morning (which seems a little far off for me, oh well) but it's disappointing to already have a problem of indeterminate severity like this before the first oil change.

I have ~25000 on them at the moment, and I'd estimate that they'll last me 1 more summer after this, making them around 40k ish miles. They're supposed to be 50k mile rated tires but I tend to abuse them pretty heavily on a daily basis.

Basically T/C doesn't help you in any decent accumulation of snow. This is because it only lets your wheels spin very slowly but snow tires are designed to work with wheel spin. The worst was an unplowed hill that took me 45min to get up that should have taken two. If you have a late 2011 build or later Fiesta it should have the proper way to shut it off through the computer. Mine was built Oct 2010 so no way to turn T/C off without pulling the abs fuse. The solution is to wire up a switch to the left rear ABS sensor so you can turn it on and off. This disables the entire system so no T/C, Stability, or ABS. No official instructions for this but here's the post I made about it with pictures. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3145227&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=238#post424363442
