I am now trying to choose between Aleph and PanO, so I tried to put together a starter list for each. This is based on my limited knowledge of the game and which models I thought looked cool. Feedback on both lists would be appreciated. ALEPH ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 7 0 0 NETROD Electric Pulse. (4) NETROD Electric Pulse. (4) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (16) DEVA Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 35) DEVA Lieutenant (G: Synchronized) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser+Devabot / Pistol, Knife. (26) DEVABOT Heavy Flamethrower / Electric Pulse. DASYU MULTI Sniper Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. Acceptableloss posted:stuff I started Infinity with Military Orders, and I love the models/lore of the faction. Be aware that they are one of the hardest factions to win with because they lack a lot of tricks, like smoke. I would suggest going ALEPH to learn. Also, I am a big believer of never fielding less than 8 regular orders in a list. If you want to do the Military Orders list, I would drop the TO sniper Specialist to a 27 pt Order Sergeant sniper and the Machinist to get a full Order Sergeant link team of 5 bodies. The Magister's Impetuous order and actually using your Lieutenant order instead of hiding your LT in a hole somewhere will give you enough orders to get things done. I wouldn't worry about doing ITS missions that require specialists, like the Machinist, at 150 pts. Just run YAMS or run the ITS 2014 like Annihilation or Quadrant Control. Surprise HMG Suryat resculpt, woo. Kind of sad that they didn't stick with the sort of armor on the multi rifle one (I really just like white armor fashion model space monkey), but given relative bulks and the new style they're using for the N3 updates, I don't really mind the change. Definitely confirms that we're likely to get a box of the non-HMG options, too.

Acceptableloss posted:So now I'm looking at Aleph too. I'm having trouble seeing who the PanO cheerleader unit is supposed to be. I guess it's Fusiliers? How is Aleph's ability to take 4pt netrods not unbalancing in terms of being able to generate a bunch of orders for a very low point cost? I think I'm liking the looks of the Aleph cheerleader models and also the prevalence of mimetism/camo and no wound incapacitation in the army. Netrods are not bad, but trust me, you WANT cheerleader models that can go places, do stuff, dodge fire and shoot people. Netrods give you no AROs to cover your backfield, cannot be redeployed to help your advance, cannot be used to shoot up an easy target like a hacked enemy HI or an approaching dog-warrior. That, and they also scatter off the board or into vulnerable places, letting the enemy strip your orders freely. I used to run 3 netrods when I started Infinity, mostly because I hate dakinis, and had a mess of problems with them. Ecept for the time a HMG nomad paratrooper had to spend 3 orders to kill a single netrod that kept making armor saves. That was awesome. But as soon as Thorakitai came around, I bring in one at the most. P.S: What the hell is this Kriza Boracs figure that showed up on the box set art? Thank you Sephyr and Sneaky Homunculus. I appreciate the info. I think I've about decided to go with Aleph. I think I'm going to start with the Myrmidon box, the Deva box and the Dasyu sniper rather than get the starter box. I'll just proxy netrods to start with, and use chain rifle myrms as my "cheap" grunts. Hopefully the upcoming sectorial(s) will include some other options for line infantry. I like the Dakinis ok I guess, but I hate the Thorakite sculpts.

How do most of you deal with carrying your forces around? I've got the official small Infinity carry case if anyone has any better suggestions.

KR multicase and some paranoia. My Marut is a pain to move as it doesnt fit most trays, ant it once fell on the floor right on its sword, which snapped at the hilt. I pinned it but it's still fragile. So I use a GW vehicle box lined with saran wrap and bubble wrap to try and hold it without putting pressure on the weak parts. Infantry goes in the multicase, remotes and tags on the box.

Yeah, the magnet solution might be the best way. These antennae are just way too fiddly. On a more game related topic, I was able to pick up another Santiago Knight and decided to grab Joan in case I ever want to run a 5 man link. Has anyone Mil O players tried this massively point intensive link? Or is that maybe a bit too absurd?

Hortism posted:Yeah, the magnet solution might be the best way. These antennae are just way too fiddly. That it's absurd is exactly why I'm going to run it as soon as my Santiago box comes in. Actually though: I run a link of 3 Teutons fairly regularly. I find it works out either very well and they poo poo death all over the board, or they get hacked/eat a template etc. and are still scary but much less so. 250 pts is a lot to concentrate within 8 inches and you might have to give up some overall board control or specialist options when list building.

Got a demo game in last week and ended up ordering the Combined Morat sectoral starter as soon as I got home. Have them all painted up as well except for the front arcs. Can't seem to find any front arc painting templates for anything other than Warmachine/Hordes. Looking forward to trying out my red monkey mans sometime this week.

So I have a question about swarm lists in this game. The ways the orders system functions, it seems like some factions have the option to field entire combat groups of super cheap chain gun equipped irregular/impetuous troops like Galwegians, Muttiawahs or Pretas. To me it seems like spending 50-60 pts in a 300pt list on a swarm of cheap dudes that you can just fling at the enemy willy nilly would be a really good strategy. What prevents that from being a super game winning strategy?

The fact that next time you can expect 2-3 total reaction remotes which will ruin your poo poo, and they are much cheaper/easier to magnetize than a horde of cannon fodder Monomines work even better since they are permanent templates and the only mooks that can E/M them, the Ghazis, are AVA 4 which is not that horrible. Also, Infinity is primarily a scenario game, so don't be surprised if you hear "Yeah, you killed my army, the game ends and I win on Objective Points". Who cares about , get the important data and get out. But the funniest way to piss off someone running a heavily-impetuous army is to land a Netrod or cheap AD3 unit somewhere in his DZ and watch his face as the whole horde turns back because they saw a stick Pierzak fucked around with this message at 23:41 on Jun 29, 2014 |

You mean the whole sectorial, or just the box? (efb) Basically, Morats as an army are as subtle as a brick to the face and hurt just as much. No special tricks, no camo, good combat units. You may have trouble in ITS scenarios though because of a relative lack of specialists (if you can, play the 2013 rules where the LT was a specialist; this makes them much more viable). Units: Vanguards - meh. Expensive line infantry, that's it. Useful mainly when linked with Anyat and/or a combat-oriented Treitak. Anyat - now she's good. A squishy sneaky specialist, also a "it does WHAT!?" option against TAGs Kurgats - Autocannon is a fluff trap, use the mk12. Suryats - apparently they were useful linked with a Raktorak and Kornak, but then LTs lost specialist. Weren't played much anyway. Daturazi - singing, dancing serial axe murderers. With chain rifles. And mimetism. And smoke grenades that hit on 17s. For 14 points each. Especially good with... Yaogats - Your main offensive link. MSV2 + Panzerfausts mean that even the mighty Avatar doesn't want to approach. 1 wound means they lack staying power, but they're there to be aggressive. Sogarats - take these if you want staying power. Infinity is not a game you can tank hits in, but if you want that playstyle you want the Sogarat. Heavy armor, heavy weapon, automedkit that succeeds on 15. Rasyat - Either with a spitfire to mulch badly deployed order-grunts, or as a cheaper model to do whatever (maybe play "two snipers" with a TAG and his E/Mitter). Your only AD option and a decent one. Lacks a specialist though Zerat - Infiltrator with mimetism instead of camo, the only spec option is a hacker. Very likely to die because she doesn't have to be discovered. Oznat - Awesome. 20-point smoke LGL for Yaogats and can link Hungries() for cheap regular orders(). In cheap games she'll link the zerglings for orders, in larger that link can be put into own combat group - start them linked, move to the center, hide in a building (possibly plonking some mines), switch link to Yaogats. You now have a great fireteam and a horde of rabid critters somewhere on the way to them. Pretas - One of the few OP units in Infinity. 6-6 move, chain rifle, dogged, mines, for 5 points. Great point-fillers. BTS, Gakis are poo poo. Medtech Obsidion Bananoid (or whatever): Get it. Great specialist, larger base means it'll have problems with getting into some places. Vulnerable, clear the way to the objective with someone else. M-Drone - another great and cheap specialist. Q-Drone - A very good crutch (forgives poor deployment), hole blocker, force projection point, whatever. Take it if you have a hacker. R-Drone - 8 points orderbot is 8 points better than a 16 point Vanguard, if all you're doing is plonk it somewhere in a building. Ikadrons - Take a hacker so you can take them. 9 point orderbots (literally), excellent anti-AD defense, area controller (baggage means +20 points towards area domination), campaign evac, repeater, and has a flash pulse for long-range AROs.
