In one of the recent WDs, Bill King said he went to BL with the intention of writing a story centering around an IG commander. Apparently Macharius was brought up, and so it kind of became a series about him.

Which seems kinda lame on their behalf. "Eh, just make something up about that Macharius guy. :effort:"
Pretty sure you could do something decent about some other IG commander if you so wanted without having to really resort to using named characters for recognitions sake.

I could have sworn there was a novel about Macharius or his crusafe by King from like 99 or the early 2000s. I never read it though

Doesn't seem like it as a cursory google search doesn't really give me any other mention of books aside from the trilogy by King that's currently being published.

The closest thing to another book about Macharius is Graham McNeil's terrible Ultramarine books where he apparently makes an appearance. King did write a two short stories about an IG regement in.. 1990. :staredog:

So Kill Team is on sale right now for $7

I grabbed it, I'd say its worth it. It is a decent little game - click to kill things. The art assets and voices are all a reuse of Dawn of War 2 with a dash of Space Marine for the Ork ships, but it still looks good. Definitely a fun way to kill some hours.

And since people always bring it up, I think they finally got the bolters right in this one. The shooting animations show flames streaking from behind the shots and they leave little exhaust trails, they explode when they hit something, and the sound is less machine gun, it is something lower and more drawn out.

Anyways, totes worth $7

Who was the lord commander in the gaunt ghost books again? he reminded me of Mecharius. Some of those books had some interactions with him.

I guess not. Honestly i would love a book that views a crusade from a high level, maybe gives a few pov's of the battles. But mostly focuses on the grand strategy of the crusade and the intrigue that i would expect to occur at that type of high level. Like the warmaster has to juggle: The imperial Army, the navy, the Inquisition (who knows what they are doing), the Mechanicum, and the Astartes. They all have their own agendas, and i would love to see a face off between the inquisition and the adapteus mechanicum over a world. :allears:

That would be a political thriller. Which would be awesome, but BL isn't going to do that with its license

You will want a gamepad. I regret spending $7 on this; you can't go higher than 1080p resolution, and if you play windowed it's quite easy to click outside of the window since there's apparently no in-game mouse cursor. The lack of an in-game mouse cursor means you're guessing where you're aiming, which has been pretty annoying.

This seems like it'd be a fun co-op game, but I don't own enough controllers to make that viable (if co-op even works on the PC version).

In this case, I would rather take the two Battlefleet Gothic novels, which feature a ship named after Macharius prominently. (The Lord Solar Macharius)

I just finished reading Lords of Mars today, and while Graham McNeil's previous work has seemed to be pretty average to mediocre as far as BL novels go, I have to say I've really enjoyed Priests of Mars/Lords of Mars for some reason. It gives a good look at some faucets of the Imperium that aren't normally touched on. Definitely looking forward to Gods of Mars.

That's a part of Nemesis, isn't it? That daemon-assassin thing wants the contract so it can consume E's blood and assassinate him or some poo poo as I recall.

No, Nemesis isn't that. Nemesis is they found a mirror-psyker to bounce the Emperor's own OP powers back against him.
Then a group of assassins kill it and it's dumb.

I've never read a Shiria Calpurnia novel and it's been a while since I've read Nemesis but why do I remember there being some kind of plot to get the Emperors blood from a Rogue Trader permission slip by some kind of demon assassin as well? Was that its back up plan or something?

I'm sure there was, because I have never read a Shira Calpurnia novel either and yet I distinctly remember that godawful plot point.

I concur, however, that Nemesis is inexcusably dumb.

Didn't the mirror psyker need some sort of a focus for his power? I'm pretty sure he was after the Emperor's blood in order to be able to properly reflect his psychic juju back at him.

Also goddamn that book was wank.

Ahriman (John French) is trying to get access to the Black Library, which apparently houses the true name of the Emperor. I don't think he is specifically looking for that though according to the most recent fluff, and instead trying to find someway to unfuck the thousand sons.

I thought it was some plot in either the Bequin series that they were looking for the true name of the Emperor. I could have sworn some future book was going to be about finding it, and it was going to be by one of the good authors, but I'm drawing a total blank now

For those interested, Black Library has also sorted all of the Horus Heresy releases into a suggested reading order to reflect the timeline on their webstore. There's a lot of audio drama and ebook only content squeezed in between the novels that I'm afraid I'll never get around to ever reading or hearing. :ohdear:
