LEDs are fine to do, but this is a painting competition, not an electronics or scratchbuilding competition. So you're welcome to do whatever you like but the judges will give their awards for painting first, then creativity, etc., as they see fit. The same goes for the Journals.

Just as the competition must be open to non-GW models and settings and no disadvantage painters of Malifaux or other models (the main reason for the one model minimum), the competition is about painting and can't disadvantage hobbyists who don't want to add soldering and wiring to their skillset.

I think white or yellowish-white. It will depend on the specific chemicals getting burned, though, and the Wikipedia said there were additives that people included to get the lamps to burn different colors on demand.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_lighting

In general, I think I remember from chemistry class that anything organic (carbon-bearing) tends to burn/glow in the white/yellow/orange range.

Edit: As a complete non sequitur, metallic wrapping paper burns an awesome turquoise in a fireplace and I imagine the fumes were probably The Healthiest Thing Ever to be around. :v:

Sweet, thanks for this. Makes sense about the color, I've used an acetylene torch before, and when you're just burning the fuel/oxy to light, it's a yellow-white flame. Accelerating it obviously pushes it into blue-white territory, but that has more to do with the actual temperature of the flame rather than what is being burned at that point.

Drill into the feet and pin them to the cork. Later on you use the same pin to attach the model to the base and clip it from underneath. Personally I consider it too much hassle and prefer to saw the tabs down into natural pins and use little document clips to hold them.

Don't apologize or feel awkward for asking! Part of the coolness of the thread is learning how to do stuff and pushing your boundaries! That's the reason the Inquisitor's Journal changes every month, so you're encouraged to try something like OSL by getting an extra point and the possibility of earning another 1-3 points from the judges. There's always the Miniatures Painting thread where you can ask your questions but if you spot something interesting, don't be shy, ask away! Also, some of the Oath Thread painters don't post very often in the painting thread, so if you don't ask here you might not see their model anywhere else.

Please check to make sure you're in there!

I made an effort to include all the photos of the many many cool bases that were made during June - great job, everyone!

I also only had to add usernames to just TWO of the submissions this time around - awesome! (you'll know who you are if you see your name in bright green Comic Sans!) - if I missed anyone please shout up!

In case anyone is curious, all of the submissions are randomly sorted, using the random alphanumeric file names that Imgur conveniently use for pictures that are uploaded. I drag and drop the first picture after checking it's got your username in the picture, copy the first file name to my clipboard, then copy over the other pictures you have into a desktop folder, renaming each one with a '2', '3', and so on. Then all of the pictures (usually 250 or so) are uploaded to my Google photo album, sorted by name, then I share the link. Yeah...there's not much to it, but it's a handy way to make sure that user AAAAAaaaaaAAAaaaAAAAgh doesn't always come first in the photo album, and user ZZZZZzzzzZZZZombieZZZZzzzzZZ doesn't always come last!

This is also a great reminder to CHECK YOUR POINTS! I'm wondering the same thing, since I'm making a pretty kickass banner on a separate base. Had to use sesame seeds since I didn't have any sand or dirt, other materials include sponge, plastic cup, q-tip and sewing thread.

Also, I though you had actually just glued their feet to the top of a nail first, which is something I'm probably gonna do next time I spray, of course that's a no-no for a clear base.
