You're telling me you wouldn't at least question the word choice if someone walked up to you and said "don't swim on the rocks"?

Funny pic coming shortly, I'm on my phone.

I remember this being on the news when it happened, and it is genuinely funny.
But I am completely baffled that someone whose job is apparently to deal with people who don't speak Welsh would have their away message for their work email address written in Welsh. Did it not occur to him that a good number of the people likely to see that message would not be able to read it ?
(Unless this Welsh message was also accompanied by the English translation, in which case, carry on as you were.)

Jesus Christ, you goons. It's obviously warning you not to swim when there's ice in the water.

Thats what I'm Tolkien about.
This rock chat reminded me of these signs in Richfield, Minnesota, and I assume MN in general. I used to hang out and smoke and be a gloomy goony high schooler in this one park, and spent many hours wondering about the thought process behind these signs. I guess I kind of get their intentions, but it just seems like such a weird way to go about it. There's a real boy who cried wolf thing going on too. I guess it is correct like 15% of the time?

If someone falls in, they can say they had a "thin ice" sign on it and be done with it.

Oh, how awkward.
Those signs are always posted near inlets/drainage areas of ponds. The flowing water will not freeze as readily as the standing rest of the pond. Most people would assume that if the middle of the pond is frozen thick enough to hold a person, then the entire pond must be thick enough.

Perhaps the sign should be replaced with something clearer? It's in the funny picture thread because many people look at it and go "WTF does that mean?" Not a good property for a warning sign.

If your first thought when you see a sign telling you not to do something is, "hm, this isn't very clear," the problem is not the sign.
