So after my Morat debut match where I got squashed by the steel phalanx I have been looking into expanding the Morat sectoral box to 200 points and here is the list I came up with. I made this list with YAMS in mind, from what I have read it would be worthless as an ITS list. MORAT AGGRESSION FORCE ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 6 0 0 YAOGAT Lieutenant Combi Rifle, Panzerfaust / Pistol, CCW. (31) YAOGAT Combi Rifle, Panzerfaust / Pistol, CCW. (0.5 | 31) YAOGAT Combi Rifle, Panzerfaust / Pistol, CCW. (0.5 | 31) YAOGAT MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 42) YAOGAT Spitfire / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 35) MED-TECH OBSIDON MEDCHANOID Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (23) SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (3) SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (3) 4 SWC | 199 Points Open with Army 4 I really want to dig around with link teams some more and fluff wise I am in love with the Yaogat and my local group brings shitloads of Camo/ODD and heavy armored stuff so the L2 Visors and Panzerfausts everyhere SHOULD help me out plenty.

Yeah, the yaogat/dat combo is where it's at. I would also always make space in a morat list for a few hungries, with or without the oznat. They just can achieve so much for such a small investment. Anyway I played my first game for a year yesterday. Thought it was going really well against Caledonians (I have Corregidor) then the dice just turned on me. It still could have gone better if I'd made some different moves, but my opponent was just rolling hot. His wulver made I think 6 or so ARM rolls against hmgs to triumph over 3 or 4 of my models. Crits like no-one's business, for example losing a Mobile brigada in one hit to a T2 ammo crit. Nonetheless I am keen to play again, might get the chance Monday. I get to go to the physical store of Antenociti's Workshop! Interesting to see a nifty online retailer in the flesh. God help me to walk out with the bases I need and not a hundred pounds worth of other stuff. Does anyone know which models are 'legally' on 55mm bases now? I am going to get one for my anaconda, but I feel the remotes would look so much better on 40mm bases. Also no-one sells that many cool designs for 55mm. Really surprised they didn't just pick 50mm as a new base size, it looks big enough and is just a bit more usual.

drat, I really do not want to put my specialist remotes on huge bases. Antenociti makes 2 types of 55mm base. One of them will fit alright with my spaceship-y based nomads, but it's not terribly exciting looking. Whereas I have some excellent 40mm bases from dragonforge already. Sod it, the remotes are staying on 40mm. I'll just put the iguana on a 55mm for now.

Partly because it makes the number of options being presented more manageable, but also because Infinite is an extremely unforgiving game. Better to take 20 minutes getting smashed due to a deployment mistake than to take an hour learning the exact same lesson. As a new infinity player, I generally find that new players simply get all of the rules wrong, and are forced to look them up via the wiki constantly, rather than having issues understanding the value of cover or how best to deploy. Like, they just get the rules wrong, no matter how many points or orders there are to work with. Having faster, smaller points games doesn't help them to get the rules correct.. At my store, a bunch of people picked Infinity up at the same time (myself included), and I developed a personal rule of, "If someone tells me a thing, I should always look it up as well, because they might be wrong." Examples: Not understanding how Sixth Sense L2 works (its complicated!) Dodging in ARO without line of sight to target Not understanding the interaction between LOS, smoke ammunition, etc. Thinking that missiles which missed had scatter (lol) If you play many games, you'll find areas where you need to fix your rules knowledge by learning the correct rule, so I'll definitely say that if doing multiple 150 point games would do that, its a good idea. But generally at my store I see the same people have the same issues with learning the rules no matter the points cost. If at the same time I had to deal with hacking, AD, separate battle groups and all sorts of other rules I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it quite so much. Instead I could just slowly add a new model with some new tricks every once in awhile and learn at a pretty decent pace. Though I guess playing with more experienced people around really helps the learning curve.

Played 2 more games last night. Great fun, the comeback continues. After losing on friday, I drew against Yu Jing and then won against Ariadna! I used: 2 intruders (hmg, combirifle) mobile brigada hmg tsyklon spitfire valerya gromoz tomcat doctor And in the draw, at 250 pts, a link of 4 alguaciles, plain, just to fit the points. At 300, which I first wrote the list for, I had 2 moran masai an senor massacre instead. Thoughts: I need to paint my hellcats. Tomcats are awesome specialists but combat jump can really threaten more and save orders, so there are definite upsides. Senor massacre: poo poo? For probably the umpteenth time, he did nothing then died. I even got him into cc that time, but it was with 2 antipodes and he died immediately. Anyone had real success with him? With nothing but high cc and natural born warrior, he is little better than a 5-pt warband, and far worse than 6 of them (or than McMurrough). E/M can be useful, but realistically anything he could do to a HI or TAG I would rather try using a hacker for. Holy poo poo infinity is high luck. ARO crits had big impacts all over. Finally, I had a great time, promising group to play against weekly, and it is at the physical shop of Antenociti's workshop. The place is an amazing literal workshop. Gonna buy everything through there, the owner is a swell guy and reportedly an excellent player - I can't wait to face him.

When you're still learning, MSV3 can be a very frustrating thing for an army that relies on camo markers to learn against.

The system is two-fold. Each objective point you get for winning is an XP for your spec-ops guy, if the spec-ops survives the battle. But the campaign XP is based off on attendance (5 XP each week you are in attendance). So your spec-ops can earn 10 XP per week. We are now on week 10 of the campaign (ends in one week - week 10 is the last normal week, and then a wrap-up of set piece battles for week 11). The attendance XP fills two pools - the campaign XP, which you can spend on getting the various campaign upgrades (more points, higher retreat threshold, more availability, always win initiative/deployment, etc) and the spec-ops XP. Also, the spec ops pool doesn't diminish. All you lose if your spec-ops dies is the victory XP they earned, not the attendance XP. Since I've attended every game, I have a pool of 50 base XP, and I've gotten 25 XP over the past 5 games I have played in objectives (one of those was a 5-5 draw, one was a 5-0 forfeit because the other player never showed up...) so luck has a big role in it. But even if my spec-ops died, I'd have a base pool of 50 to spend. Its crazy. So its good that the campaign is ending soon. I wish I had taken the support line that ends with giving all units with structure 1 additional structure. Would have let me field a truly over powered neo-terra drone army of auxbots and dronbots galore. As for keeping the models alive for 5 battles? Cover super-jumps, being in a link team to get the extra burst, and just straight-up rolling a 1 on the cube-evac once Laphroaig fucked around with this message at 17:25 on Jul 8, 2014 |

Why play the Combined Army? You'll like the CA if you want something very different, an elite army with a twist: The CA is an army of specialist, a giant box of unique tools. You have excellent shock troops, awesome infiltrators, HI as strong as TAGs and TAGs even stronger. The CA boast a number of unique abilities that will make less prepared players go such as hacking personality implants themselves (taking over human troops) or movable cover. You still have to pay for it though, and the CA is not a cheap faction. Also, you're fighting for the loftiest ideals, who needs plain money/power when you have the potential for Transcendence? Sectorials: Morat Aggression Force: The Morat army is as subtle as a brick to the face and hurts just as much. A warrior race that respects only strength, the Morats were subjugated and made the assault arm of the CA. Forget camo, forget cute tricks, the Morats don't play like that. You've got good link-teams screenned by awesome warbands, good HI, and airborne diplomats carrying rapid-fire guns. The Morats shine in annihilation or area-control scenarios, but lag behind when subtlety and varied mission objectives are needed. Shasvastii Expeditionary Force: The Shasvastii suffer from a racial trauma from a near-extinction event. Allied with the EI to increase their chance of survival, they play very different from other forces. Survival is the name of the game - your units have a shitload of camo and either automedkits or regeneration from eating fallen enemies. Did I mention that every Shasvastii has to be killed twice or it'll grow back after the battle, granting the enemy no VPs? OTOH, you've got absolutely no heavy firepower - learn to use your camo snipers, reaction drones as active force projectors, terror units (Speculo!), and more landmines than the Bosnian war. Control the table and make it a living hell for the enemies while they fight you on your terms.

So, Shasvastii. They are awesome, especially if you love trolling people. I started with them (no vanilla CA!) and learned the ropes on pure Shas, so it's definitely doable. "?" my posts here and in the previous thread to find some walls-of-text about particular Shas/CA units, so I'll focus on the overall strategy here: You have no heavy firepower. Your only HMG is on a BS11 reaction drone, so don't expect to go out and win a straight firefight. If the enemy has any fair chance, you're doing something wrong. First, board control: - One of the first things you learn in Infinity is that Normal Roll ARO kills and forcing FTF is a must. That's also one of the things you unlearn later. A Malignos sniper will often force the enemy to shoot at -12 penalty: -3 range, -6 TO camo, -3 cover. If you're at -9 to hit or more, don't fear combi AROs and focus your shots on more sensitive targets like heavy weapons, remotes, specialists. Don't try to engage enemy camo yourself, just plonk a mine next to them and move on. Remember that if you catch a wound you still have an automedkit, and if you were behind low cover you're now prone and probably not visible, so go regenerate. Another alternative is to have a Malignos FO or hacker (for ITS scenarios) or the monomine variant if you expect TAGs. Generally, they're pests and very good at it. - Q-Drones are your force projection points. Kinda hard to explain, do not view the battlefield in terms of chess-like movement and position of discrete units, see it as a fluid. The drones serve to increase pressure locally. Also, the metaphor serves a nice picture of the enemies swimming in jelly and never getting anywhere. - If (since) you have snipers, learn to anticipate enemy movement so they show in your sights on the second move skill and can't reply to ARO. Going move-move only to get into a hidden Malignos sniper's LOF is fun. Doubly so if it's a ML Noctifer and you're a HVT. - Speculo Killer. Don't use them in your first hmmm 6? games, i.e. until you learn the basic mechanics. They can be a huge crutch that'll make you unlearn bad habits later. But when you do start using them, they're awesome cute little terror units. Yes they have a 40% of flat out removing any TAG from the game by deploying right behind it and poking it in the rear end with a lightsaber, but they also have a combi rifle and smoke grenades. And the very presence of a yellow marker generates absolutely unreasonably hilarious amounts of panic, throwing the enemy plans into the shitter. And yes, she does have an automedikit - Shrouded: your basic workhorse specialists, take FOs or minelayers depending on whether you're playing a scenario or firefight. Drop a ton of mines, delay the enemy while the rest of your army gets in position (which begs the question of why the gently caress weren't you in position to start with) Your LT will be an Aswang, it's so much better than the alternatives that there's no question. Camo + can eat up to 3 wounds and pop back into camo? ADHL for food incapacitation? Enough said. No, there's no combi model, proxy or convert (BS Aswang + Cadmus combi or spit Aswang + Shrouded arms). 1. convert the "weakness" into a strength - drop them right behind the enemy (in template range, out of LOF but like 1" behind them if you can), AD is not an attack so even a full link team only gets to change facing. Then poke one of the test subject with a sniper bullet. They'll either take it and drop dead, or ARO and trigger the mine explosion upon the whole team Also, remember that if someone does approach your mine-seed, you can both explode and hatch because mines don't ARO, they have their own mechanic. 2. Another fun option is to take an LGL Cadmus, deploy normally (they can't downgrade AD, but deploying without AD at all is not forbidden anywhere of course you're still a mine) next to Sheskiin who has the best scannable stats in the game, hatch, Morpho-Scan her, now you have a cheap BS15 LGL You will not get into retreat, ever. Unconscious Shasvastii do not count towards retreat, they do only once they and their Spawn-Embryo (survival organ, not the same as Seed-Embryo!) get killed. Oh, did I mention that Spawn-Embryos still count as active Shasvastii for the purposes of area control? Have fun hunting alien eggs when there are like 20 camo markers on the field, oh did you forget which ones are mines? If you're playing Spec-Ops campaign or scenarios, take the Treitak, you can do it in Shas too. gently caress Corax and his start-the-game-in-a-useless-seed gimmick. Also, if you have CA in your meta play 200 points. The aliens don't like 150 points and their passive-agressive responses will take the form of learning to shave points and then fitting a TO TAG / Sepsitor / dual impersonators / a horde of zerglings in that format.
