What was the reason for Kane's one day title reign between KOTR '98 and the following Raw?

Was it simply to pop a rating the next night when Austin won it back?

Booked into a corner by putting Kane in a first blood match. Kane can't lose. Furthered Austin/McMahon because McMahon got one over on Austin and setup Undertaker/Austin for Summerslam by having Taker cost Austin the title. Obviously Austin had to get it back the next day because leaving it on Kane would have been bad for business.

I think this was the match where Austin got a cut on his arm like two minutes in but they kept going.

Since authority figures are usually yelling at someone to ring the drat bell was there a storyline explanation for Paul Heyman being able to count RVD's win at One Night Stand 2006? If it was during the show I skipped around a bit.

Not really outright, but Heyman was the head of ECW so that's about as official as it gets, and the match was contested under ECW rules which means "it would've been official even if Beulah counted the pin".

I sincerely hope you're being sarcastic or facetious, because you just argued that "that match was as ugly as a black woman's vagina" isn't racist. Bonus points for comparing something you don't like to a woman's vagina.

But you have a big red custom title about being an MRA, so I kind of doubt you're joking.

He was the head of the new brand, so it was basically the same as if Vince McMahon counted a pin. A transitive properties officiant, really. He hires the refs, therefore he gives the authority to the refs, therefore he has all of the authority of a ref.

when DSE's yakuza ties were exposed PRIDE died and HUSTLE fizzled out under new ownership lasting until around 2010. the overlap of MMA guys is because Dream Stage Entertainment ran both PRIDE and HUSTLE.

HUSTLE was DSE's undertaking to make a pro-wrestling promotion that would be the leader in Japan and chose a mainstream friendly approach -- sports entertainment. They had originally tried to make a SERIOUS, american style promotion which wasn't received well by the fans so they decided to make it into a comedy promotion. Loads of B-list celebrities and angles to get people to watch it. Having the MMA guys to bring in the PRIDE crowd.

HUSTLE was actually on the brink of becoming something big in 2006. Unfortunately the yakuza scandal happened.

I'm honestly surprised how well a lot of the shoot fighters worked in the HUSTLE ring, from what I saw.

I'm also honestly upset that IVPVideos guy took his HUSTLE sale down on Sunday afternoon like he always says he will, instead of Monday afternoon (when I have money freed up) like he always does. Booo!

Did Lucha have a major crossover star in the '80s? A Hogan, so to speak. I know El Santo was still popular but he was long retired from the ring and couldn't even go in his (especially) lovely later movie career.

Hijo del Santo filled a lot of that role but he didn't have the crossover appeal (the movies/celebrity) although he was a better ring talent than his dad. Getting into the early 90s Konnan and Vampiro were huge but not close to Santo level.

HUSTLE was actually on the brink of becoming something big in 2006. Unfortunately the yakuza scandal happened.

Context: the Yakuza live in this really weird grey area in Japan, and plenty of people have studied much more than me, but it's a slightly different relationship than with organized crime in the U.S. All of these groups are associations and are on the books -- most of their businesses are through shell companies (duh) but there are official locations with a shingle outside saying "Yamaguchi-gumi", etc. Since I think 2010 or 2012, there have been attempts to tighten up against the influence of Yakuza in Japan, though -- I believe these new laws say that you can't legally do business with known yakuza businesses, and some of the big banks have gotten into hot water one after the other for having accounts with yakuza members. (This is a totally Japanese way to 'ban' them too -- we're not going to outright ban your groups, but make it illegal for anyone to do business with you? Sure, that makes sense).

Moreover, reading about this, it sounds like a political drama too between different yakuza groups (who have rivalries, duh) and different fighting organizations (PRIDE, K-1, etc) and TV distributors (who want good product but had to keep clean). In sumo, too, there were problems at that time with yakuza members taking the VIP seats up near the ring, and in Japan, even being up there and seen there is a sign of disrespect, or flaunting of authority by the yakuza groups.

Of course, the sad truth is a lot of stuff in the economy go through yakuza-owned companies or fronts and it never really seems like you're more than two steps away from something with ties to organized crime.

This may be partially why puro has lagged in recent years -- there's always some money to be found somewhere to prop things up, but if it comes from bad sources, that's not good. And with the heritage and history of that money coming from ill gains, then TV companies may have moved away from it for the time being. The quality of product of course has an effect, but the politics behind it may have hurt puro on TV as well. New Japan is making honest-to-god strides -- I saw Shinsuke Nakamura on a game show the other night. But that's of course another topic for another time.

If I am remembering the show correctly, I'm pretty sure he was supposed to touch one foot as they were making a big deal all night about BOTH FEET MUST TOUCH THE FLOOR and showing Michaels's 1995 win where one foot touched the ground.
