I listened to a NH radio spot yesterday, about how this wasn't just our Independence Day, but our Independence Week and how we should all go to this guy's cigar shop so we could light fireworks with our stoagies and how we all need to have Roman candle fights with each other. It then turned into a spot about DUI awareness and how we shouldn't do anything stupid this week because we're Boston strong. Same narrator, one continuous take for the entire spot.

Crossposting from I/P thread for exposure, since it's too busy having a slapfight over equivalency for anyone to notice or care: I'll put together a proper thread at some point, but if you want to do something at least somewhat productive to alleviate the suffering instead of just feeling terrible, UNRWA is one of the best ways to get money to people who need it in Gaza: http://www.unrwausa.org I'd encourage everyone to give even a little bit here; during Cast Lead in 2008, we collectively donated over $30k. Other options – Charitable causes that deliver humanitarian aid: Oxfam International - http://www.oxfam.org/ quote:Oxfam International is a confederation of 13 like-minded organizations working together and with partners and allies around the world to bring about lasting change. International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - http://www.ifrc.org/ quote:The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world's largest humanitarian organization, providing assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. Amnesty Interational - http://www.amnesty.org/ quote:Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights for all. Medical Aid for Palestinians - http://www.map-uk.org/ quote:Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a British charity that operates in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Lebanon. We deliver health and medical care to vulnerable Palestinians and strive to establish a permanent medical infrastructure in Palestinian communities by training health care practitioners, teaching medical vocational skills and addressing the requirements of particularly vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities. UNRWA - http://www.un.org/unrwa/ quote:Following the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict, UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, was established by United Nations General Assembly resolution 302 (IV) of 8 December 1949 to carry out direct relief and works programmes for Palestine refugees. The Agency began operations on 1 May 1950. In the absence of a solution to the Palestine refugee problem, the General Assembly has repeatedly renewed UNRWA's mandate, most recently extending it until 30 June 2011. Doctors Without Borders - http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate/ quote:Doctors Without Borders/Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) is a private international association. The association is made up mainly of doctors and health sector workers and is also open to all other professions which might help in achieving its aims. All of its members agree to honor the following principles: ANERA - http://www.anera.org quote:ANERA is a leading provider of development, health, education and employment programs to Palestinian communities and impoverished families throughout the Middle East. Norwegian Aid Committee - http://www.norwac.no/board.html - This is the group with doctors in Gaza. Can't donate online, though. quote:The Norwegian Aid Committee (NORWAC) is a humanitarian organization founded in 1983. NORWAC works mainly with health care issues. The program of work comprises of emergency medicine, and long term health planning, both in hospitals and primary health care. Knitters Without Borders - http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/tsffaq.html quote:MSF is a medical relief organization dedicated to bringing help to people in the worst circumstances in the world. MSF goes where other relief organizations (NGO's) will not. Where circumstances are the most desperate, the most dangerous and the most hopeless... you will find Médecins Sans Frontières. MSF is transparent and neutral without any political or religious affiliations, and does not accept donations from Pharmaceutical companies or companies that make Tobacco or Alcohol. Part of their job is to witness and report violations of human rights and dignity. MSF helps all persons who need them, regardless of their race, religion, politics or gender. MSF won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. Bristol Computers 4 Palestine Project - http://www.bristolcomputers4palestine.co.uk/ quote:This project aims to ship recycled computers from Bristol to small towns in Palestine. There they will be used for education, youth work, and for general use by all sections of the community. Digital cameras, and laptop computers and other IT equipment are also needed. But most of all money to pay for shipping costs, transport in Palestine, for repairs, software and consumables. United Palestinian Appeal - http://www.helpupa.com/ quote:Established in 1978, United Palestinian Appeal, Inc. (UPA) is dedicated to providing aid to Palestinians in need, especially children, in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. American Friends of Magen David Adom - http://www.afmda.org/index.aspx quote:American Friends of Magen David Adom-ARMDI is celebrating its 67th year of supporting Magen David Adom, Israel's equivalent to the Red Cross. **If you just want to buy some stuff and give directly to the Palestinian people, here are links for that** Non-Profit Human Rights/Educational Groups: Electronic Intifada - http://electronicintifada.net/ quote:The Electronic Intifada (EI) is a not-for-profit, independent publication committed to comprehensive public education on the question of Palestine, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the economic, political, legal, and human dimensions of Israel's 40-year occupation of Palestinian territories. EI provides a needed supplement to mainstream commercial media representations of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Israeli Information Center For Human Rights In The Occupied Territories - http://www.btselem.org/English/ quote:The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories was established in 1989 by a group of prominent academics, attorneys, journalists, and Knesset members. It endeavors to document and educate the Israeli public and policymakers about human rights violations in the Occupied Territories, combat the phenomenon of denial prevalent among the Israeli public, and help create a human rights culture in Israel. Ma'an News Agency - http://www.maannews.net quote:Ma'an News Agency (MNA) (Arabic: وكالة معا الإخبارية) is a large wire service created in 2005 in the Palestinian territories. It is part of the Ma'an Network, a non-governmental organization media network created in 2002[1] in the Palestinian territories among independent journalists throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It has partnerships with eight local television stations and twelve local radio stations. Ma'an News Agency publishes news 24 hours a day in Arabic, Hebrew and English, and claims to be one of the largest wire services in the Palestinian territories, with over three million visits per month. Ma'an News Agency also publishes feature stories, analysis and opinion articles. The agency's headquarters is in Bethlehem and it has an office in Gaza. The Free Gaza Movement - http://www.freegaza.org quote:We are a human rights group that, since August 2008, has sailed ten times to Gaza to break Israel's illegal stranglehold on1.6 million Palestinian civilians. We entered Gaza successfully five times in 2008; however, we have been violently intercepted on four voyages, including Israel's MAY 31, 2010 lethal attack on our Freedom Flotilla when nine of our colleagues were killed and many more injured by Israeli commandos. On the tenth voyage in July 2011, Greece prevented us from leaving, as Israel and the U.S. outsourced Israel's occupation of Gaza to Greece. (See also https://www.witnessgaza.com)
