I enjoyed it overall, but it is a show that's all about Marc so if you are one of those people that have grown really annoyed with him I could see how you wouldn't like it. I thought for sure he was going to close out the show when it cut to the Dad phone call.

Yeah I think the apology was a bit weak. It was more of an "I'm sorry you felt that way, but..." instead of just admitting his Dad was hurt and that he realized what he's done.

Well I don't think Marc has really forgiven his Dad for a bunch of stuff either, clearly. I guess he doesn't want to give ground on something he felt justified in doing.

I thought it was an interesting episode. I was happy to hear the Odenkirk and Hansen clips because I specifically remember those bits resonating with me before. The Brill interview was sort of painful. It gave me the same impression as when he had Morgan Murphy on (makes amends with someone he has a rocky past with, but still manages to come off as too self-serving).

That phone call with his dad was a great way to end it, though.

Marc didn't really do anything wrong though. He just realized "my dad is gonna die relatively soon so maybe I just say I'm sorry to make him feel better so we can both move on" which is definitely something I've done with my old man over dumb arguments. Marc's dad has bipolar disorder and was mad about his exaggerated fictional portrayal in the TV show. For once in Marc's life, he wasn't the one who blew up at the person on the other end of the line.

In fairness, it's sorta relevant to Cornell considering he's a recovering alcoholic.

I don't ordinarily listen to WTF when it's someone I haven't heard of, but once I saw that Rebecca Corry was a comedian, I figured I'd give this one a shot. REALLY good episode! Can't recommend it enough, as she's funny as poo poo and seems to get along with Marc well, bonding over having crazy in the family especially.

Ribisi was doing a good job of portraying Scientology as being not that different after all, until Marc asked him about psychiatry and he just started letting the crazy flow.

WerthersWay

I thought it was a good interview in that Marc didn't shy away from talking about Scientology, which I was expecting. But Ribisi didn't exactly convert me to his side. Here on Sunset Blvd. there is literally a place called MUSEUM OF PSYCHIATRY: AN INDUSTRY OF DEATH.

Bret Easton Ellis tweeted that he's driving to the cat ranch today. That episode should be really great.

I would love it if Marc got really antagonistic towards him but I doubt he'll go in that direction.

I'm listening to the podcast now, and I must be at the "normal" part. He does make it sound like "just a philosophy, man." But then I remember that celebs have their own special centers where they're supposedly treated extremely well, and that the experiences they have are quite different from the mundane adherent. I dunno, a religion is only as good as how they treat their lowest-rung members, and they have a bit of a spotty track record.

I recommend the one with Adam Carolla. Two very different guys but they manage to agree on basically everything they talk about.

Warning, BEE loves the sound of his own voice. Sometimes I wish he's just not have guests on.

What if I don't really like Adam Carolla for absolutely no reason? I've listened to a handful of his podcast and, while I respect him, I just can't seem to get into it.

I know what you mean there. My friend has a podcast that typically end in him talking over the guest or droning on while they sit there...

I dunno. He was evasive and vague, but even if Scientology were completely normal, and had the amount of hate around it, I think he'd be just as evasive. It's hard to indict half-answers.

When he said about how Scientology helps him with day to day stuff as a philosophy, that's what I would have asked about. Let's get down to what Scientology actually does for someone. That, I don't understand.

From a few documentaries about it, I really got the impression that for celebs, Scientology is basically a love-affirmation thing. They make you feel super great and confirm that your success is because you're awesome. How wouldn't that help you? If you're feeling depressed for Hollywood Super Star reasons, that might be enough for you to swear off of psychology and psychiatry, and see it as a huge scam.

edit: aw, heck. I just went on YouTube, and here's a full docu by an ex member, supposedly on the celeb experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfKqOUMrCw8

edit 2: Ribisi and his dad are mentioned in the first five minutes, lol

As long as you skip the intro which involves Marc taking a burnt match to the tip of his dick, the Romany Malco episode is one of the best of the year. A really smart dude with a varied, interesting past. I always assumed he was just a stand-up who got his big acting break with The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Me too. However, his opening rant was hard to listen to. So if you have good things to say, great. If you say, "gee I didn't like this or that" then you have a horrible tragedy in your life and you are just reflecting on him.

Hmmm...I wonder why his relationships are poo poo?

Thursday's intro is a must-listen if you haven't already must-listened. It's about what he calls the worst day of his life.

It's also an example of why I'm not the biggest fan of his show: The fictionalized version of his life isn't that interesting when I've already heard him talk at length about the exact same subject covered in the episode.

Prosper was huge when it first launched, everyone was excited about the new credit economy it would create. Then predictably everyone just started scamming it and never paying back loans and it looks like they have really embraced that and it's barely better than a payday loan shop now. Don't waste your time.
