The only Napoleonic game I've played is Lasalle, but I like it a lot. The rules felt straight forward and easy to grasp, even in my first game. The ruleset works with any scale minis.

For miniatures, if you don't want to break the bank, consider 10mm or 6mm as well. Much cheaper and you'll get those large units painted up faster. For example, around 30-40 quid will make a decently sized starter 6mm army for Lasalle if you buy from Baccus or Adler.

Just do the Hawaiian style duel. You and a bunch of your friends dress in grass skirts and body paint, grab some pointy sticks and get in a canoe, paddle to the offending party's island or villa. They get their group together in similar dress. You stand off, your backs to the sea, your feet in the wet sand where the tidewater meets the shore, they opposite with their village and pride behind them. You then shout your war cries, bellowing intimidating roars while shaking your weapons and grass skirts at each other, and the first to show fear or remorse...

...has to pony up the pig and drinks for the party.

My kind of duel.

Me and my friend are discussing the Napoleonic systems out there, and suddenly I was wondering if Black Powder has some sort of command and control rules like Bolt Action has, to simulate fog of war and the chaos of the battlefield. Would it be possible to play Black Powder at 15mm? Anybody have experience with it?

Black powder works well at any scale, all the way down to 6mm. There is indeed a good deal of command variation, most of the strength of the ruleset is in the command structure and orders system, I highly recommend it.

Cool thanks. I read a review or two and it seems pretty cool. My friend is a manager at my FLGS and can get us some pretty sweet discounts on models, so we're going for 15mm models with this rule set.

I did some brief previews/overviews of Black Powder/Hail Caesar in the original post way back when we started this thread. It plays well at any scale.

Battlefront or Zvezda? I have a soft spot for T-28s, so I'll probably go with those when I start an early war force. I'm kinda hoping the Barbarossa book that eventually has to come out will have some interesting combos.

Just shuuuut uuuuuup already.

In any case, I'm currently looking at a recon platoon for my DM Trained Panzer Kampfgruppe. The ability to take actual recon is what sets this list above the BG&G lists and honestly not being able to lift GtG just loving sucks. I'm not a gigantic fan of the regular Sdkfz 234 but I'm taking a fancy to the one with the Pak40, only because it's some weird ad-hoc recon/tank destroyer vehicle. My only concern is that I'll use it like a tank destroyer and not as a recon car.

I really don't know why anyone would bother with the Aufklarer 38(t) over the Panzer II Luchs, sure you gain 1 point of armour and a Self Defence AA 2cm with the 38(t) but you lose Light Tank, which honestly is a pretty great bonus for recon vehicles.

I bought 3 luchs awhile back and I like them a lot. I think the trained list in DM is pretty swell, just gotta watch out for the smaller platoon sizes on your less well armored tanks. The list works best for me when you've got high front armor tanks to make up for the trained rating.

Battlefront, I looked at the Zvezda offering and I wasn't impressed with the lack of detail. The Battlefront ones are NICE, lots of crisp detail and well worth the 2x cost. There is a small defect in the skirts of the tanks, you will see it clearly in the photo below but otherwise its hard to notice.

The only downside is that it takes an entire company's worth of rare earth magnets (20 of them) to magnetize the turrets of 2 of them.

Added the horseshoe antenna to this one, not sure what else to do.

It was just £12.75 for five T-35s from PSC for a while, but they're now "sold out". This may have been a mistake on their part as the kit is a lot larger than other Zvezda stuff.

That looks great, especially with the antenna. You should post a picture when you get around to painting it! I definitely agree that BF quality is probably worth the extra cash vs. zvezda in this case.

I'm tempted with Colonial stuff. I aborted a 28mm Sudan project after painting a unit of Perry Sudan Brita (lovely figures). Would be tempted with 6mm though, Baccus so some lovely stuff for that period. I've also got all the Empress Miniatures Zulu movie character packs, but they are sat unloved in my cupboard. Shame coz I love that film so much and I've never seen a convincing way to wargame Rorkes Drift.

Just read through the WWI previews on WWPD (motto: We're totally not shills for BattlefrontTM)

Looks interesting and the tank rules are certainly different. I was already planning on plopping down money for both starter sets, but now I'm even more curious how things will play. Definitely looks to not be another Flames of Tanks of War of Tanks of Tanks, though WWI tanks are such a huge draw that I doubt you'll see a battle without one or two. Looks like I'm gonna have to start making some terrain! Though 4x4 tables are probably going to upset some people at my LGS (tough!)

What are some good resources for trench design, I want to get a head start on this.

The figures are beautiful, and I seriously regretted not digging in more for the last one. (I only pledged for the sample pack and some promo materials.)

Does it look like BF is going to do anything further with WWI? It looks like they're doing late war, and they produce enough compatible French models already (with a different paint scheme). Seems weird to reduce a whole World War to two boxed forces.

Three, but I think the big issue was, for an armored fest, depending on your group you could either never win or never lose with the Israelis (usually never lose), and the Jordanians were just a non-starter. There was a sense of the rule set being rushed, or certainly not a finalized product. I do hope they continue to expand on it, but it does need to mature a bit before they release another compilation. A lot of the draw to that period of time was kinda left out.

Compared to WWI, what will be the biggest draw, initially and kinda ironically, will be the tanks, even though on the table they probably won't be that big of a part of the game.
