I got that Plasma Piercing Beam rifle and gave it a go, it's awesome. Even in non-FPS mode you can just stand there with your finger held down on the 1 key and fires forever. Is it the only thing in the game that does that?

It's interesting, does seem a little week but the constant firing makes up for it. I like it, and could see it being very useful in the Voth Battlezone. I've only used it in a couple episodes so far.

I love that I still find cool things in this game after playing it for a couple years now.

All the STO talk in the TVIV trek thread made me sign up for this game and I'm actually having fun (drat you all).

I started a tactical alien KDF character and got him to 11 and got a cruiser (I don't know why) but I'm wondering if I should choose another character. Are there major bonuses associated with the different races or should I just not worry? I'd like to PvP in the future and figure tactical is easiest to start with before I go through it all again with a sci or eng character after I figure more out.

Anyway, I want to get in with goons before pubbies burn me out. I signed up on the wiki as murdernaut666 and I'm ingame as zaxar@murdernaut666. (If I start another character on the same account will I have to get another channel invite?)

Most will tell you to go Romulan Tac, but a KDF Tac is fine and the Klanks have been fleshed out enough to be a real faction. You'll get lots of contra to help build yourself up and some nice gimmicks if you want them. They also tend to focus more on PVP and since you said you were interested you'll have a leg up with teams. That said, they tend to get neglected by the developers and haven't seen much love since the Romulans entered into the game.

You shouldn't need another channel invite with a new character.

Doesn't matter what ship you have til 40. Escorts generally let you level faster though.

Ahaha, on the current tribble patch, MkXII space weapons actually cost less dilithium than they do now, if just slightly. (22500). That was quite the backtracking. Luckily it also removes the biggest complaint about the crafting revamp too, so hey.

Is there an ideal way to equip my new support cruiser, the U.S.S Jonathan Frakes? Right now I've got it going with five Mark V Phaser Arrays (2 in the front, 3 in the back) and a forward facing purple Kinetic Torpedo launcher.

It turns like a slug but I also feel like I should be doing more damage. Are my lovely bridge officers to blame?

You're in. Don't worry about needing another invite if you make another character, channel invites are linked to your account rather than your individual characters.

Get an Excelsior, get awesome. Then when you hit Tier 5, get a Fleet Excelsior to get back to being awesome.

Did you increase your ships weapon power? You have to do that for each new ship you get.

So I'll admit I haven't really been keeping track of the 9.5 changes because I don't really need anything - so for those of us who already have all the endgame gear, traits and doffs we could possibly want (for the moment) are there any sidegrades or notable gimmicks of note in the new crafting grind?

Because I don't see a pressing need to swap out anything I already have.

Beam Arrays with 360 degree arcs, Beam Arrays with a chance of a free beam overload, DHCs with a chance of a free rapid fire.

The free beam overload might be nice, assuming it doesn't clash with FAW.

Can anyone advise me as to what the best purchases would be if I had 2,000 Zen from back when I used to play this?

Is there a Romulan ship I should buy for when I get my guy to 50, or is the account shared bank worth it? I already transitioned a couple million EC to him just by buying a phaser I listed on the exchange for 2.5mil, but maybe being able to give him my old Borg gear or...I don't know enough to know what I should do.

Does it make sense to just buy keys and sell them on the exchange?

Figure 2 in a series of 3
There's also a master key sale going on right now (10 keys for 956 zen) which will sell like crazy on the exchange at a good markup once the newest lockbox is released (Xindi).

Ships are a good choice if you will have more than 1 char flying it, less so if not. Or if it has a good gimmick console. (Plasmonic leech for a 1k KDF ship. You'll want that for all KDF chars.

And of course suluboat.

I tend to prefer things like the Duty Officer cap increase. That's per character though so if you alt a lot it won't do much for you. Also since fashion is the end game more costume slots and those are even account wide.

Pretty sure that phaser lance thing would vaporize an Excelsior in one shot, therefore...

Seriously though, I wish the Galaxy-x wasn't poo poo, because I like the idea of a cruiser with hangar bays, cloak, phaser lance, etc. Gimmicks are fun.

If it makes you feel better, as far as poo poo heaps go, the Gal-X is perfectly salvageable. It's not gonna be a scimitar or even an Excelsior, but it'll certainly get the job done.
