LobsterMobster posted:Stephan Bonnar vs Kyle Kingsbury, UFC 139 - Bonnar styles all over Kingsbury and the dumb fans boo because they are stupid idiots. PERFECT, thanks. Bonnar is another guy whom I've heard is the "best" BJJ guy at 205, but he's most famous for horrible sloppy wars (I've seen "the greatest fight in UFC history" - the TUF 1 finale - once and once was enough) so I haven't gone digging through his old fights - even though I love the guy's personality! I would be a much bigger fan if he was a smart fighter who played to his strengths more. I'll check this one out. LobsterMobster posted:Genki Sudo vs Leigh Remedios, UFC 38 - Genki Sudo has a fun as hell grappling game, and this this is probably one of the slickest RNCs. Cool, I know you guys love Genki but I've never seen one of his fights. LobsterMobster posted:
"Scrambles" is the word I've been searching my memory for. Couldn't come up with it. But it's what I like to see. It's easy, as a goofus who's never trained but who has been in a few lovely fights as a kid, to be all like "I know how to punch dudes, what's the big deal" or "that whole armbar thing doesn't look too complicated, I bet if some fool was lying on top of me I could pull it off". I know how dumb that is, BTW. But when I see two guys toppling and tumbling around all a-tangle, and they're not losing their balance and falling flat on their faces, that's when I feel like "those dudes are professional loving fighters." Because every fight I've ever witnessed or participated in, once guys start grabbing at each other (usually after about 2 or 3 punches) everything goes silly and floppy and uncoordinated and guys are just falling on top of each other and rolling around. "Scrambling" i.e. not falling on your rear end and collapsing when another dude is giving you a sweaty bearhug, looks really loving hard, really exhausting, and like it takes an incredible amount of skill and training. That's why I like it so much. LobsterMobster posted:Alan Belcher vs Rouismar Palhares, UFC Fight Night - Everyone talks about how devastating Paul Harris is at leg locks. Alan Belcher shuts that poo poo DOWN. Saw this one live and agree it was awesome. LobsterMobster posted:Just a few to get started. You like grappling? Watch Charles Oliveira fights. He debuted in the UFC by submitting Darren Elkins in 30 seconds, which I can't find on fight pass. Then he beat Efrain Escudero in a fight where Escudero mostly ran away but Oliveira still managed to get a submission finish. He then got put against Jim Miller, a veteran on a six fight win streak. This fight shows the difference between good at grappling and good at submitting bad fighters: http://www.ufc.tv/video/jim-miller-vs-charles-oliveira-ufc-124 He then had the coolest scrambliest fight of all time with wrestler Nik Lentz, which had a disappointing ending http://www.ufc.tv/video/charles-oliveira-vs-nik-lentz-ufc-live-4 He got KO'd by Donald Cerrone and dropped to featherweight, where he did cool things Oliveira wins fights via rolling reverse calf slicer http://www.ufc.tv/video/charles-oliveira-vs-eric-wisely-ufc-fight-night And anaconda choke from the guard http://www.ufc.tv/video/jonathan-brookins-vs-charles-oliveira-tuf-15-finale He then had a disappointing loss to Cub Swanson in a fight where he hosed up his weight cut and then blew his knee warming up in the cage pre fight (not to take away from Swanson's awesome KO) and got matched up with former LW champ Frankie Edgar. Fight mostly takes place on the feet, but it's a really interesting tactical battle. Oliveira has range on Edgar, who wants to box him in the pocket, but Oliveira has really devastating knees, so Edgar doesn't want to get too close. Frankie has to move in past the jab, land punches, and avoid getting too close, which his does by taking Oliveira down and trying to stay out of his guard. Not a super exciting fight, but it's fun to watch if you realize what each guy is trying to do. http://www.ufc.tv/video/frankie-edgar-vs-charles-oliveira-ufc-162 He recently submitted a grossly outmatched British and is now fighting cool grapple person Hatsu Hioki on the 28th.

One of the best showcases of top control, scrambling and heart and my personal favorite TUF final. It's extra special because the original piss drinking weirdo Luke Cummo was expected to get taken down and squashed by Stevenson but ended up not only going the distance but hurting Joe at one point and even winning a round via grappling. There's plenty of screaming Serra and Longo in Luke's corner as well. http://www.ufc.tv/video/joe-stevenson-vs-luke-cummo-tuf-2-finale

I've been catching up on classic UFC, I'm up to 7. I'm giving serious thought to cancelling my Netflix, because I'm struggling to find the time to watch everything. The Ultimate Fighter is an amazing show- I'm on season 2 now. I still can't get over the short plumpy guy who got nut punched over and over again.

In terms of karma, the testicle pounding really only covered him for his role in Austin Powers. Someone would have had to straight up bite his dick off to even come close to righting his other wrong.

I guess that puts my evil testicle theory to rest. To be honest, I was quite taken back by the lack of testicle smashing. You'd think people would have been going for more low blows. I always held this notion that Royce Gracie was untouchable in his "prime", but Ken Shamrock's bout put that rumor to sleep. He looked visibly disturbed after the fight. Well... that fight and the fact that Kimo put him out of commission.
