Watamote suffered sitcom progression syndrome ( would call it Flanderization) in its entirety in the one season it existed for. Tomoko's introverted nature very quickly became the entire subject of the thing and it stopped being played for dark humor and started being played for actual humor. Then by the end of it Tomoko was basically a caricature of herself-from-the-first-episode, and it was hard to feel bad for her because the last few episodes centered around her being a huge idiot rear end in a top hat. It felt less about "Tomoko wants to be popular!" and more about "what will that WACKY Tomoko get into next??" which sucks. Also they waited to pull the "Tomoko actually might be a little bit gay???" twist until the very end and it was like what. edit: Oh, :tvtropes: is a real emoticon. The manga gets even worse. I pretty much stopped reading it, it was funny/cringeworthy for a while but it's clear the author's started to run out of ideas. Now I want someone on SBF who's watched Watamote to read Masturbation Master Kurosawa for a non-humorous look at a total shitbag character who actually realizes what a horrible person they are and does something about it. Oh, and Matt, if you want to send Liam to this thread, I think he might find some good series to read. Hell, you might enjoy some, it's mostly non-uguu poo poo, such as I Am A Hero(which rules and has some of the best artwork in a manga ever, maybe a peg below Berserk), Nausicaa, Ressentiment, ONEPUNCH MAN, A Silent Voice, Fortress of the Apocalypse, Teppu, and dozens of others. edit: read ONEPUNCH MAN, for reals, there's pretty much no other manga with animate-able artwork

I second basically all you've said, but that the first thing on that list after ONEPUNCH MAN should be Teppu, which is about Women's MMA and being a huge smug rear end in a top hat, and it's drawn really well too.

Plus gently caress that "Is he? Isn't he Superman's kid" kid. Kevin Spacey was fun though. Shame we can't get a Superman movie somewhere in the middle. Ghost Rider though felt like someone had a late 90s early 00's superhero/action movie script sitting around that they couldn't pawn off and here comes Nic Cage all "I'LL PLAY ANY SUPERHERO! GIVE ME A MOVIE!" and they were like "Um... nobody has done Ghost Rider yet and we can get that for a nickle." and they just kinda shoe horned it to make it work. The origin stuff all feels pretty decent, I agree with that, but everything else kinda feels generic as gently caress with window dressings and waaaaacky Nic Cage poo poo. Worse I saw it in theaters because I was hyped for some dumb Ghost Rider bullshit and it's the first movie outside of Phantom Menace where I was all "What am I doing here? Where am I?" Also unfortunately for me my girlfriend finds it a guilty pleasure to watch it so I get subjected to it much like you subject your girlfriend Pat to watching Face Off. Also yes, a lot of low tier Marvel/DC properties really should go the TV or Webseries route and i'm glad they're doing that for Daredevil and would kill a man in front of his elderly grandmother for a Luke Cage/Iron Fist Heroes for Hire deal. Plus seconding the Bruce Timm DC Animated Universe love. You can jump in on any series and it's all well written and good and probably the best representation of all the DC heroes ever. Plus Justice League Unlimited would make Pat love LOVE Booster Gold. Probably still not Hal Jordan though cause gently caress that guy twice. Yeah if you guys liked Batman Beyond and Batman the Animated series you owe it to yourselves to watch Justice League and JLU. I rewatched all 3 on Netflix recently and they all pretty much hold up, except for Batman Beyond's unironic use of fake future slang. Congrats on having a website like real internet celbs now. Also I think Watamote is still pretty ok, it for sure is not as great as it used to be though. I think it hit a down curve when she started a side comic and gave Tomoko an equally socially retarded friend, but instead of going all the way and making it 'see even when she finds someone like her she's too much of a big dumb goon to realize they could probably help eachother' or whatever she just made the friend kinda a generic dork and Tomoko still a huge crazy person. So it's just like "Here Tomoko and her friends, her friends are kinda dorky and she does poo poo like try to look up porn at school"
