Even if this reasoning wasn't so flawed as to merit you being canonized all over again, is it really so hard to imagine a world where the Saints pissed off literally the entire universe with their shenanigans and can only escape the kind of angry mob that only astronomical scale can provide by going back in time?

I fail to see anything wrong with this logic. (EDIT) Correction, the only thing wrong with this logic is that this is not a game I can spend money on.

My Lovely Horse posted:Saints Row had its time spoofing GTA, let's go Saints in Time and go for Assassin's Creed now. This is really the direction the series should go. GTA is definitely not that relevant anymore, especially after how boring V's multiplayer (and single player) was. I really think 5 would work best as a send-up of the current state of the open-world genre. Now we have stuff like Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, maybe Fallout and Elder Scrolls, Far Cry, and even Borderlands to make fun of, and I think it could be really fun to see those painted purple. SR 3 and 4 explored awesome hijack/ vehicle entry animations; they need to break ground on new dismounts in 5. May I suggest: http://youtu.be/xonMpj2YyDU?t=22s The calmer egress a la Red 2... http://youtu.be/7yBnl_krN_U?t=11s ..or the more agressive exit like in Endhiran.

Saints Row going full on Crono Trigger, going into extreme pasts and futures for Steelport and ultimately fighting against some evil Lavos (that is actually World-core-god-emperor-future boss, or some such) is the only way this series can go in my mind.

How about Saints Row where you're taking over an city on an alien planet for absorption into the Saints Empire.

Man, playing watch_dogs has made me remember just how frigging massive the gap between gameplay and story is in a lot of sandbox games. Yes sis, I'll tend to your crippled son after I've pretended to be a rampaging spider robot, hacked someone's porn and stolen unstable chemical components to create grenades. Kind of easy to forget how consistently silly Saints Row is without really stumbling over itself.

It's interesting how different opinions are on where the SR series should go from here. There are those who want the next game be as balls-to-the-wall insane (or more so) than SRIV, whereas others such as myself wish they'd just go back to the SR2 style of gameplay and humor instead of the whole "everything is crazy and wacky and probably a pop culture reference or parody" thing, and no matter what Volition does some of us are going to be somewhat disappointed. Obviously, that's not to say anyone's opinion is wrong or that I'm not going to play the next Saints Row for 90+ hours regardless.

Going back to gangsters and car chases just seems so limiting after leaping off tall buildings and nuking the ground when you land.

I can just imagine the kind of stats you'd get in Saints Row.

I just finished Tomb Raider and there is both a verbatim "not without you" moment and a quick time event boss fight. Good game but it kinda takes balls to pull that off post-SR:TT.

I want the Saint's 40 man WoW raid segment. Johnny Gat is the Rogue, Shaundi is a Warrior, Pierce is whatever gimmick build is a complete joke. :Edit: Make pierce be a druid. Old Shaundi can try to smoke some part of him in tree form, and he can summon three mini pierces to help out, and he can spec into everything equally thus being completely useless in practice. :Edit 2: I haven't played WoW since TBC so I have no idea what WoW humor would be relevant these days. The games try to tell you Johnny Gat is the best character, but we all know it's Pierce. Pierce should actually be the most powerful character but everyone sees it as Shaundi attacking.

Johnny is the tank, Shaundi is the rogue, Pierce is the healer, Matt and Kinzie are buffers. Buffs would negate all need for healing. Boss takes a look at this poo poo and becomes the all-rounder main character with the best stats and best affinity with each weapon class. e: going by D&D the bard can also be the healer in which case Pierce's sole useful ability is to sing duets with the boss, but that does buff him into the stratosphere.
