The mock-up just looks like a big Genestealer in terms of pose. Which might be cool but it looks like they realized the model would topple if they tried for it so they turned it into that piece of poo poo in the second picture.

We haven't seen the back yet. Give it a chance. The top half needs to be cut-off and added to something else. Wait 6 months and Forgeworld will start selling the legs as an upgrade.

Eh it's bad but still better I think than the GW tyranid stuff. At this point it almost feels that Forgeworld is trolling their own company with Horus Heresy and models. I've yet to see a Horus Heresy model that I wasn't impressed by.

That model looks weird. Luckily, it's still very much possible to have fun with regular Tyranid models these days: Incoming picture dump Tyranids versus World Eaters - mission rolled was Emperor's Will but who cares watch models get STUCK IN: Chaos Lord on Juggernaut in a Challenge with a Devourer Tyrant - both ended up murdering each other simultaneously 3 Carnifexes reaching a Berserker blob with a charge - it did not end well for the traitors <- this guy is hosed In the end, it was a decisive 5 - 1 victory for the bugs when my buddy called the game at the end of the 5th turn - but playing a game with so much action going on in the assault phase was really fun for both of us!

That's a baller looking game, Soulfucker. Great looking armies on some pretty killer terrain in an utter bloodbath sounds like a good time in my book. Anyway, I finally finished the first squad of these boys. They're the start of an allied IG contingent to go with my Ultramarines! Yes this makes three IG armies in my possession, two of which are entirely metal. Shut up. These guys were really fun to paint, and I pretty much just winged it based on their old 'Eavy Metal paint scheme. I'm not putting quite as much time into them as I put into the Ultras per model, but at a third the points cost I'm gonna need to paint a lot of em. The old Perry twins sculpts have tons of character that the modern plastics lack, although the nature of their helmets seem to have caused some problems when it comes to casting their eyes. As a result, a couple have kinda wonky faces.

I will probably get one anyways. And I will cover it in mushrooms! The beast is 85 pounds. Though the fact that they put it out instead of, oh, do another run of tyranid terrain or the anphelyon kit sucks. When I graduated college my goal was to save up enough money for the base, no more I guess.

Decided to give up on all-Battlesuit, in part so I can use a greater variety of minis (the first of which SHOULD arrive today so I can start painting!). Are Ethereals worthwhile? They only award a VP on death now, instead of freaking out your dudes, but I don't know if their abilities are worth the points and being a big blue target. How about Devilfish for Fire Warriors? I know they can't use the vehicle to screen like they used to be able to, but it seems useful still, and I love the Tau tank chassis. Stealth Suits are good, right? Those look pretty sweet, and I'll have some! And finally, Pathfinders with rail rifles? I'd like to use some rail rifles, for flavor reasons! See also: Hammerhead with railgun.

I do this a lot (though I've recently been dropping the Aegis was and just depending on terrain to be more flexible) and it's really one of the only ways to remain survivable if you're running a "hybrid" army. I dunno about autistic--2+ cover saves can be pretty sweet. Gray models is pretty shameful though.

Crosspostin' again. I got a Baneblade for my birthday. I used a few online guides to build substructure inside the chassis and magnetized it to be viable as all 6 variants. I was able to bring it in two whole games before my local group banned Lords of War in the current campaign. That's ok, though, because at the end of August, we're starting a new campaign specially designed around larger games and gearing our group up for Apocalypse games. (Feedback welcome). Here's the whole ABG together. Does anyone, by chance, have any pintle-mounted heavy stubber bits they're not using? I'm short a few sets.

Esser-Z posted:Decided to give up on all-Battlesuit, in part so I can use a greater variety of minis (the first of which SHOULD arrive today so I can start painting!). Ethereals are fairly solid- I've said it before, but there basically are no "bad" units in the Tau codex that aren't named characters. The airplanes and Vespid are a bit lackluster, but everything else is at least playable and often strong. Back on topic, though, Ethereals are great for anchoring a battle line, as they can share Ld10 from inside a transport, and they have two really good bonuses (extra shots, weak FNP) to hand out to your units. Nothing feels better than a Riptide shrugging off Gets Hot! because your Ethereal yelled about communism that turn. Just keep them somewhere that they won't get immediately shot to death and they're fine. (As a side note, due to the way the Tau warlord table works they have a very good chance of getting the "ignore Pinning" warlord trait, which is amazing for many Tau armies.) Fire Warriors in a Devilfish are perfect for being with an Ethereal- the tank protects the leader and he, in turn, gives them a huge firepower boost when they disembark. You'll always want a Disruption Pod, but most other upgrades probably aren't need (although Sensor Spines and Smart Missiles can be nice.) I like to use them in pairs, the better to block off potential charges and benefit from the Ethereal's aura, but it isn't strictly necessary. Stealth Suits are reasonably-solid at hunting things and can be a gigantic pain in the rear end for the enemy to deal with them- trying to chase down the Stealths can split their forces, leaving them with less to close in on the rest of your army, often a fatal mistake. Rail Rifles aren't awful on Pathfinders, but they aren't all that great, either; the problem is that they are expensive and make the unit end up a bit mixed in terms of what it actually wants to be doing. The best way to use them would be to get a fortification (Bunker or Bastion being ideal, due to number of fire points) and giving it the Ammo Stores upgrade so they are more accurate while staying protected from return fire. It ends up being a fairly large investment, though. Power Player posted:I know we're done talking about the new Ork Codex, but I was rereading Imperial Armour 8 and drat did I wish they had taken some inspiration from it for new units. Like, holy poo poo, Mekboy Junkas and Bigg Trakks are awesome. They're both really nice vehicles, yeah. The Big Trakk was pretty ridiculous with the old Deffrolla and taking them in squads- nothing like three Trakks bearing down on a target and inflicting 3d6 S10 hits automatically before opening up with 6-12 Skorchas.
