Both the Boss and the GT500, hence the moniker. I believe it's N/A, something to do with the subframe not being able to hold the big 5.8 or something.

The diesel will upset it a whole lot more - they're always significantly heavier than the petrol models. Actually every time I've driven a small diesel I've felt it just ruined the car - all you can think of is how much better it would have been with a petrol.

Yeah, that's what's currently killing the new 3 for me; I would be looking at the grand touring S trim, but if I can't have the rear wheels driven, I at least need a third pedal. Here's hoping they offer the stick in all trims of the 2.

That's one thing I loved about my first-gen 6 when I got it. There were no other sedans of that era that had an interior design so simple and clean. The buttons were easy to use without looking and the gauges looked great.

If there's one good thing to come out of the rear camera mandate for 2015 is that manufacturers are going to have to put a small LCD in every single one of their cars. Once you cross that threshold, it's basically no cost to add in other infotainment electronics.

Don't forget timg, but my question about this is where is the infotainment system? I see the map shows up in the cluster screen but i assume you aren't expected to touch that, so is everything controlled by the switches? I think that's a great idea because I hate touch screens. That photodump of the mazda 2 interior looks great but I notice the infotainment system is conveniently missing. I assume that's because it's horrible and sticks up right in the middle of the dash? In a previous post it looks like it retracts. Do we know if it just stays up all the time when the stereo is on or does it pop out every single time you need to press something, because I can't tell which would be more annoying.

Edit: okay yeah, the Mazda2 also has the knobby deal to control the "tablet toaster" Less pawing at the screen is good.

So are they moving it upmarket to compete with the Mini Cooper? It's going to be a tough sell to convince mainstream American consumers to spend that much on a Mazda subcompact.

The infotainment display is the gauge cluster. It's a giant LCD screen that can be configured a variety of ways to display different information. The black dial on the center console along with the surrounding buttons control the infotainment system. The HVAC displays are the center of each of the 3 center vents (fan speed, temperature, and air flow direction)

The sound is not only definitely N/A, but also distinctly high-performance Ford. It sounds very much like a combo of the Le Mans/Indy Cammer engine and a F1 Ford DVF with a rev limiter on it. Scary to think we can now buy what is effectively a $$$ 60-80s era prototype works race engine with a factory warranty at your local car dealer.

Augmented Dickey posted:

Believe it. Those glass dashes you see in the likes of the latest S-class and Tesla are actually dirt cheap now with the rise of the iPad, cheap Android tablets, and small HDTVs. A $199 mid-range Android tablet is more than enough to run the cluster, infotainment, and HVAC in a car. Hell, even the cheap little Fiat 500 gets a glass cockpit for 2015.

As for that aesthetically beautiful, ultra-simple modem dash? It has the side effect of being cheaper to manufacture with modern processes and materials. It's clearly a sign of spending serious engineering/R&D time and money on building something as cheaply as possible (which I mean as a serious compliment). A good example of this philosophy are the cases on commercial Dell Optiplex/Precision workstations. Beautiful pieces of engineering clearly meant to be mass produced as cheaply as possible with the fewest, simplest parts, yet rugged with decent aesthetics too. Automotive equivalents off the top of my head are things like the Chrysler K-car, pre-GM Saab 99/900, and the current Fiat 500.

Can't go too far up. In Canada, the $9998 Micra has done horrendous damage to the segment the Mazda2 lives in. Hyundai is putting $4.5k on the hood of Accents.

Luckily we don't have mandatory backup camera, so maybe that might sneak us by for a few years and explains why the Micra is Canada only in NA.

While technically true, I've driven both; the Fords tend to have a touch more grunt, while the Mazdas tend to handle better. Same with the FBRGT86-Z, they're almost identical, but with slight differences in setup (and interior trim) that might make one preferable to the other.
