https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/appdocu/app-the-human-story Today's featured kickstarter. I hate the planet, I hate everything. I want my generation to die. This is the most dumb, self-aggrandizing, myopic... Okay, I am overreacting. A lot. However, while most of these are scams, this is just a big ego fest. Its a bunch of people talking about how revolutionary their work is and why the iPhone is the most important thing because 'apps are the art form of our generation'. With great quotes like 'Only nerds downloaded software' before the iPhone. They envision a future where everything is apps and their work is of historic significance. Essentially, its the two hour movie equivalent to chatting up the people who go to Apple Stores just to hang out. Flappy Bird is this generation's Citizen Kane. EVE Online is pretty unique among MMOs, what with being a non-sharded, non-instanced, PvP-centric single universe. Well, not for long… or something… now that Event Horizon is being proposed. Surely, it's uniqueness is due to its being such a trivial implementation that everyone is going for a much complicated design and, really, anyone with mid-'90s sensibilities can replicate it. So how do you go about doing that? Why, with flexible funding of course.

Let's see what's trending on indiegogo. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/paperlike Why do you inconsistently misspell receive... But, let's get to the point - the idea is quite repetitive, and while I've seen links to https://flattr.com/ (most of the time on soundcloud), and lately heard about PayPal Microtransactions, it's not something you can easily... adapt. I imagine doing it the way Apple does it, with the store (charging the payment to your phone bill) makes sense, but I'm getting away from the campaign. Reading it, I can see no real details - how will the payments be processed - what experience do they have with processing payments, what clients did they work for previously, how will it actually work; to that - what the money will be actually used for? what benefits of using this service over the ones mentioned above? The demo on their website is a placeholder and of course the "Thanks wall". Well, thanks wall! 8k$ earned. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hicon-smart-wristband-social-bracelet-with-interchangeable-social-network-icons No, no, no, no, no. Seriously - do you really need to have access to your social media that you have to wear a bracelet to notify you about a facebook update? And this is only a notification - you won't be able to know what was updated, who updated it. Hell, reading through it - you won't be able to use it without your smartphone. So it's a notification to check... the phone that you've to have on you. 2k$ earned.

There are literally over a dozen icons under any youtube video you want to share. There are already half a dozen ways to pay people for their ramblings. As for the second one look at those buzzwords! All for another social alert wristband, there are so many of these things and I have never seen a human in real life use one. Good lord that bracelet is ugly too. I love that they are acting like its a way to meet people or a conversation piece. They have a video of a guy picking up a girl because they both use instagram and youtube. Wow! Soulmates! Creepier, it monitors your social networking profile and alerts you any time someone nearby has similar interests. My absolute favorite part has to be that they describe the (unsettling) fact that people look at their phones every 6 or so minutes as a waste of time. Its claiming to be a high end router, with built in virus protection and Honeypots. All that technically exists yes, but then it gets iffy. They mention a lot about it being 802.11ac but nowhere do they inform you that all the devices they list like phones and game consoles? Are currently NOT and do not support gigabit wireless. Then it mentions it can control all home automation... well is there a standard for those that it can interface with? I have no real knowledge but it seems more complicated than that. Then they literally claim it stops bullies. It monitors your children online and when someone is being a bully it alerts you. It also blocks porn (poor teens) but not with a blacklist or proxy, no no no. It uses NEVER BEFORE SEEN TECHNOLOGY without slowdown. Plus buy more than one tablet and they form a beowulf cluster! $179,999 folks. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/spy-cam-peek-i--2 Parascope for your iphone. Now you can buy an 'audiophile quality' $30 charging cable for your iPhone. $57,400 https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/this-is-your-out-an-eject-button-for-bad-situations Its a keychain you can press and it calls you so you can pretend you got a phone call. I think it's funny that they're taking the "we've simplified it for you" angle to market to a demographic who's bread and butter is nerding out and over-complicating this poo poo. It's also a 50-watt amp (and that's 50 watts in today's circuit design/measuring language, not 50 watts from the 1970s that could shake pictures off of your walls) in a tiny enclosure so the idea that it could give someone the same experience as a 300 lb stack of separates is pretty rich. There's also already a small army of good looking, great sounding ~50 WPC stereo desktop amps and even self-powered speakers on the market that cost between an eighth and half of what this guy's charging and the connectivity options that he's touting can be added for dirt cheap. The only thing that this has sort of going for it is looks and you can get a vintage receiver or amp with way more character and way more power (and which will probably sound better) off of Craigslist for under $200. trilobite terror has a new favorite as of 18:58 on Jul 20, 2014 |
