I've got to apologize for those of you that invited me (reekaro) to my very first KSE. I kept trying to play through a flaky router that had been acting up all night, and it went out in the middle of the mission. Nothing like having some goons try and help me out only to ratfuck them while helping me. Sorry about that, back to pubbing for a while, I don't care what happens there.

Seriously though don't worry about loving up, those of us who've done this poo poo a billion times can practically solo the borg missions by now, just go with the flow and ask a bunch of questions on how to get better at internet spaceships.

And there's some things that are always useful such as Field Generators for your Sci slots. But of course it's gonna fall into that old trap of 'the crafting can't keep pace with you'. EDIT: Not that the new mods in the crafting system aren't worth it. 5% flight speed and turn rate per weapon(Thrust)? -4.8% speed and turn for what you hit(Snare)? A free Beam Overload(over)? Well once you finish the rep grind you can turn your attention to the slightly-less-irrelevant crafting grind. I especially like how it keeps a doff busy so they can't be used on other non-crafting doff missions, and also how you can't queue anything, and everything takes time to craft. Super awesome and highly inconvenient.

With crafting you really should just be setting up the 20 hour research project once a day. Trying to actually make anything at this point in the grind is useless unless you have new alts that could use mk iv gear or whatever.

And if anyone hasn't noticed, you can run multiple research runs from the same branch at once. I've got two beam researches going on right now as I only have two slots unlocked. Number 3 should be up tonight since I needed 12k more for level 4. I'm focusing on slots first mainly because you can run multiple researches at once.

It's not like I have a shortage of materials because I run STFs on four characters and consolidate the crafting boxes on one character. I was playing around with the system a bit to get a feel for it, and the feel I get is that it's dumb and overly clunky. When you want to make something, you have to make each of the components one at a time, with no way to queue them. If you want to make more than one of something your work increases exponentially, instead of a simple 'craft all' button, or a 'make x number of this component' button.

Another noob question for you guys - I see a lot of talk of buying/selling ships on the exchange but I don't see a ship category on the exchange you get to from terminals, and the only other places I've seen with ships are the zen store and the ship requisition guy. Am I missing something really obvious? I'm not level 50 yet so maybe it unlocks after that?
|
# ? Jul 21, 2014 16:52 |

They are listed under the reward packs. They go from about 150,000EC (mirror universe ships) to the max exchange price of 500 million EC (for the occasional bugship). If you don't already have it, the zen store purchase to unlock your EC cap is a must to be able to buy ships off the exchange.

Ships on the exchange are in 'reward packs' and come from opening lockboxes or being bought on the Lobi store.

I did the numbers on those lobi ships last night and it is absolutely insane. Barring hitting the jackpot in an unlock or a rerun event it'll cost you at most something like $200 a ship if you pay for keys. At current exchange values you can't even refine enough dil a day between two characters to buy a key a day. Are they even that much better to warrant that kind of investment? (Ignoring if that level of improvement is even warranted in a game where you can excel in almost all the endgame content with non-rep, non-fleet gear to begin with.)

Berke Negri posted:Are they even that much better to warrant that kind of investment? No, not remotely. In fact for the majority of faction/ship type options the best ship you can get will be a Fleet or Zen store ship, with lockbox/lobi ships drawing equal if they're lucky. That said, right now I have about 650 lobi saved from various in-game lobi giveaways over the past year or two, so whatever, maybe at some point. A Fancy Bloke posted:I was asking in the channel last night and got some good tidbits but I'm bad at Internet spaceships so I was wondering if anyone has a good mirror VoQuv build. I fly a mirror vo'quv on my orion and what I do (disclaimer I am terrible) is put beam arrays in all the weapon slots, with the solonae mission reward set for deflector/engines/shields (because I have no rep stuff for this alt), obelisk warp core, weapon damage tac consoles and a mixture of those +turn engi consoles and monotanium armor for kinetic resists and then just pick science consoles to fit your powers. Then use b'rel frigates for the hangar. That might be terrible for all I know but it works out pretty alright for me and is cheap/simple to put together.

I also fly a Mirror Vo'Quv. Additions to the above: Though you CAN go all beams, you'll eventually hit something that will punish you for that. Until you can get the Kinetic Cutting Beam, have one torpedo. Once you do get the Cutter, throw out the torpedo. Get the Assimilated Module along with the Cutting Beam for the two-piece bonus. Never put a Universal console in a Tactical slot. I'd have said Field Generators(Direct +Shield Capacity) for Science, except that's a relative problem now, being in the crafting system. I think you can still get green level-scaled ones from a story mission as KDF. Thanks to my own weapon choice of Plasma(Back in the day when Borg and Romulan Rep were all there was) my own Science Consoles have the Fleet Embassy ones due to the plasma boost.

Gozer was a dev who used to work on STO. I'm not sure if it was him but someone there wanted some missions to be impossible so they had NPCs have cheaty powers that insta-killed you. e: Sit 3km under the gate for a good time.

Actually the Gatway usually shreds you with a cutting beam. Gozertorps are generally high yield torpedoes fired by cubes that aren't rendered visually. They're called that because Gozer, the cryptic dev that redesigned the STFs the first time, thought that instakill bullshit like that is exactly what STO needed and defended that position until he left to impose his idiocy on Ubisoft.

Beats those idiots who sit there shooting at it while directly in the path of the tac cube though. Enjoy your imminent death! So is the gateway's cutting beam like some bullshit cheating cutting beam that does 30k damage a pop or something? Because I've literally seen 5 digit red numbers pop up when I gently caress up and get too close to the gateway. And while we're talking about bullshitty STFs, can someone explain how the gently caress you survive the second stage of Hive Onslaught Elite? If you charge "under the guns" you get ripped to pieces by the combined fire of the unimatrices and a fuckload of probes, and if you draw the probes away you waste huge amounts of time and then, once they're gone, the unimatrices pick you off like clay pigeons as you approach. I once saw a video tutorial with the team in tight formation whaling on a unimatrix from the front at 9.9km, which would have been completely impossible in the instance I tried because you're within easy gently caress-you distance (between knife-fight range and 20km) of the dildo ray. He didn't just leave. All signs point to him having gone out in a blaze of autistic glory defending his vision. Emmert told him to cut that poo poo out in a memo since he plays STO and even he found what he was doing to be ridiculous. So Gozer proceeded to do the mature thing and gently caress up one of the revamps of STF's, making the optionals for the ground segment of one of the more playable STF's completely impossible. And then he added in mandatory stacking respawn timers on top of the Gozertorps, which were still bugged and in game at the time. Mind you, this was the revamp that was supposed to make STF's more accessible and replayable. So yeah. Not long after that an admin let slip that Gozer was "resigning" to seek "better opportunities" on the forums. This was confirmed by Gozer not long after. This was after he had went on in a thread and interview about the PVP revamp he was doing. Which apparently he was bullshitting about, since another admin/PR guy said he had done no work on it in a passing comment a month or so later.
