DV is -mostly- average form multiplied by an experience percentage. If a players AF goes up or down, their DV could change without playing a match.

Amazing second half from your blokes Shep, I thought I'd go close after my first half effort. Very ballsy of you to play offensive away but it paid off in spades. I'd only had 1 goal scored against me all season before that game!

Heaps of chances between us - bloody Bell managing to score a brace when I tightly marked him

Yeah that was a tense game, when I went 2-0 down I thought it was all over but the season is wide open now. 3 games to go!

Just put a 17/4 youth goalkeeper with no SQs on the transfer market, if anyone's interested; I don't need him, since I got an 18/5 earlier (that's three pretty talented keepers my youth program has spat out lately, which is nice).

e: Oh, right, 67% ball possession, that'd be how I won...

Have you got your youth team set to produce goalies? Might be worth checking if you're not sure.

If you've followed my whining about my goalkeeper it's old news how unlucky I am with the injury RNG, but my best forward in another league is having an especially bad year:

He's been badly injured in three consecutive starts and missed 38 days due to injury, which is more in this season alone than his previous eight seasons combined. Maybe he'll reach 10 DV with that form and games remaining. Should I bother keeping him or sell while having ~7 more seasons at his current skill might get a decent return?

He's toast, sell him and focus on the two younger strikers. Massimo will stagnate on 10 skill, the other two will easily surpass that in a few seasons if handled right.

why, yes, youth academy. I will take a 16/4 midfielder late in the season so I can sell him for cash and pick up someone better for my team at the beginning of next :getin:

That makes the second 16/4 my academy has spit out over two seasons. Whoever says the 5-star academy doesn't pay in the long run must be having a bad streak. I'm still waiting for a decent MF with the leadership stat to replace my aging captain. Too bad it's a hidden stat because it makes finding them on the transfer market a crapshoot.

Massive round in Retu Nagele A. Thank you very much Rapner, you are awesome!

e: Does anyone notice that teams take their feet off the pedals after HT when you're smashing a team? There's been a few times where I've been 4 or 5 nil up at HT and then go on to win 5 or 6 nil. Still good wins of course, just a quirk.

In all my teams I have youth academys of 4/5 stars, and currently in all those teams I have the worst collection of bullshit you ever seen offered. 17/2, 20/4, 19/4 etc etc, not a single thing worth talking about.

I know good youths do come along at some point but it simply isn't worth the investment, not knowing what you are going to get or even when you are going to get it. I've now set all to 100,000 and will just forget about the academys from now on. Its a shame really, it could be so much more as part of the game.

Also, it is a thing that the game doesn't let you smash teams 10-0, you will always ease off when destroying a team. I guess there is reason behind it, potentially you could be beating managerless teams 20-0 which isn't good for a league, but there times I wouldn't mind just a few more goals!

Yeah, seriously. Has been a really rapid rise, well done Rapner.

I reckon (assuming we both win our last two which is a bit iffy) you'll still get promoted. You're comfortably in that 6th promotion spot at the moment and unless you drop both your games then 34 points with a 30-35 GD should get you through.

Thanks Shep. I had a good long hard look at your team and play history and figured you're drastically stronger than my team, and had a strong team in the wings. I thought with long balls and through plays and otherwise too many defenders I might be able to squeak out a draw. Offside traps on top of that might also have helped keep you out. The main thing I got right was changing my playmaker so you wouldn't have him marked, and correctly marking yours.

I really got lucky there and you were robbed. You had double my chances and possession but I was able to squeak it out due to the brilliant Uwe Mehle, despite him being tightly marked.

Looking forward to the end of the season to rebuild the team, I made a ton of mistakes when I didn't know what I was doing.

I'm not sure how it'll work with our division being the smallest of the 4, giving other teams more games to get more points and take those extra spots.

Time to fire all the kids into the Sun:

Was this a terrible idea? The point is to get their average form up, as development value is a function of average form and match experience.

-------------------

Edit: I've been reading old blogs to try and figure out the mechanics. Overtraining was removed in July 2013, so may want to remove that from the goonguide.

Edit2: Also -

Manager skill is measured in bars and can be seen in the lobby or on your profile page. I shall explain manager skill in more detail in another post but briefly you get rating points for each match your official team has played in the last 6 months, and these rating points are converted into skillbars.

Briefly you earn more skill points for winning, especially away, and also for setting what the system decides are good tactics. That means playing to the referee, playing careful is very good for ranking points and general good tactical decisions.

As all matches from the last 6 months are included good cup runs will help your ranking as they get more games in your "cycle"

For most of those 19/5's I wouldn't have wasted the money, this late in the season you aren't going to get their DV anywhere near to 15 whether you train them or not.

After the change report you are going to have a bunch of 20/5 players. Considering you can pick up 18/4 and 19/5 players dirt cheap it makes no sense whatsoever to keep 20/5's anywhere near your squad. Thats over a million econ you just spent on players for whom most of them won't be good enough.

Yeah, once you reach mid-season you should pretty much give up on signing any players unless you have identified a weak spot and are making a title push. Youth players will calculate their DV based on remaining games. In your situation I'd probably have just stopped training any player who wasn't showing progress, save up a few million in the bank, and hit the transfer market hard right after the change report to stock up on promising vanilla youths with 2m or so in the bank to keep win bonuses and training ongoing to stimulate performance/DV.

Yeah, and then their DV is based on a 6 game season. Play them 60+ minutes in each of those games and you should get 15 easily.

The only times I've had late season youths not jump were when the team was in the shitter with form, the average age for that position was low, and the youth's form never got above 15. Gotta play well to get that experience and sometimes the RNG just says gently caress off.
