All my file storage is on an IBM xseries with dual dedicated gigabit NICs. But all the files are on USB 2.0 external hard drives.

I upgraded my monitors a few months back to 4x LG 27" 2560x1440. My old BenQ monitors already had the capacitors replaced, were showing their age, and I was legitimately running out of desktop space. In addition to the monitors, I picked up a GTX 780 Classified to drive the bottom three in surround gaming and a hex monitor stand to hold everything upright. Still living like poo poo, replaced the 3+1 monitor stand I had with a 2x vertical one because the old one didn't have adjustable arms and the VESA height on U2711s are different from the U2713HM

That bottle gave me some flashbacks playing Nalgene roulette where we would throw them full as high as we could in a parking lot. Most of the time it would bounce sky high, if you were unlucky though it would land on the cap and that was that. Then the coach would come scream at us. Also nice monitor , what are you driving it with

Yes it's running at 3440x1440 @ 60hz. Right now it's only being driven by a GTX670 but that's going to be replaced in the next month or two I think. It does a surprisingly decent job of pushing 3440x1440 in most games at medium/high details. It's doing way better than I anticipated but I've been looking to replace the GPU for a while now I'm just kind of holding out for the next cycle.

Oooo we might have slightly different expectations then. I get annoyed sometimes with a 780ti at normal width 1440p

But I went into the monitor knowing I was using an inferior GPU and it would be pretty horrible at times. Yeah if you get annoyed at a 780ti...

Wowporn posted:If I'm doing that thing where I make a desk from two file cabinets and a random slab will a piece of that triple plywood from home depot be sturdy enough? My monitor weighs like 50 pounds and if this thing starts drooping from the weight I'll kill myself http://www.woodbin.com/calcs/sagulator.htm Or search sag calculator. Useful when making shelving.

Not an Anthem posted:http://www.woodbin.com/calcs/sagulator.htm Thanks, I'm at 1/10 of the maximum reasonable sag, so I should be good. With the width of the filing cabinet and the other piece of furniture I used as legs (an end table style TV stand) there's only actually a foot and a half of floating space, so it should all be good, I'll be finally assembling it all tonight.

benisntfunny posted:That thing is only about 15 years old. Yep, made in 2000. I don't remember how much it was at the time, but it must've been a ton because it runs 1600x1200 @ 60 hz or 1024x768 @ 100 hz (what I have it currently set to, counter strike playa ) and the included JBL speakers are pretty good. Also, it didn't take me a month to build, I had to put it on pause after getting the wood because I had a costume to finish for an anime convention earlier this month.
