Golems are durable, resistant to multiple damage types, and will easily knock you off a ledge, even when blocking. It's pretty, but it's short and easily forgettable. ChaosArgate posted:Invisible walkways kinda suck and combat against golems on narrow paths is a pain in the rear end? Also the one optional path there is a winding invisible walkway and that's no fun. Pretty much this, along with the fact that the slopes on the walkways can be kind of screwy at times, leading to many a plummet to your death.

I dunno. I didn't bother fighting the golems. Run past them always just stumble off. The pathways were big enough and had snowflakes falling on it. And I stopped bothering picking up items off bodies in precarious places because 90% of the time it's a soul item, and souls are easy enough to farm by that point. The optional winding pathway sounds bad, though. I died to the crabs many times, but I never actually fell off the pathway. I'm quite certain I did some sort of sequence break or shortcut with the way I navigate Crystal Cave, because I see a bunch of golems that I never fought.

I feel like I probably slipped off a few of the slanted walkways a few times, which is always frustrating. Also, the boss of that area is one of the few places in the game you can get cursed, if I'm remembering right, which is never fun. I don't remember it being SO bad though.

Also I believe the last few walkways don't have snowflakes (also the optional one) and I've managed to walk across one of them at just the wrong angle so that it looked like I was going straight on the path but I was really walking towards the edge.

To kinda bring things back to LP a bit, should you allow YouTube comments? Anyone can leave a comment, and spoil things in a game you're LPing. This is particularly bad if it's a first-impressions/blind LP, or wanting to surprise your viewers. And, of course, they could just be massive jerks raging because you don't like what they like. I know some LPs I've seen disabled comments. Mr. Soop posted:Cobra videos are also an excellent vehicle for half-assed discussions like that though, rather than, you know, actual videos talking about those subjects. Everyone knows this. Well, yeah. I'm pretty sure everyone who was watching that video alt-tabbed and did something else. Then just brought up one of the topics randomly in the comments.

The great thing about Youtube comments these days is that they don't load until you scroll down. If you don't want to see spoilers there's no reason to scroll down anyway. Not even to see related videos because those are more likely to spoil stuff. However. if you are an LPer and LP something blind, which is what you were getting at, you'll probably wanna turn them off. Because google constantly bugs you about new comments and stuff and eventually you'll look at it just to get that red number to go away. Personally I don't really see much of a reason to disable comments other than excluding a part of your audience from a potential discussion.

TotalBiscuit disabled comments and says he had no loss in viewership. That said, two things: 1. If you wanna be rich and famous on YouTube, leave comments on. Videos that have them get more viewership than those that don't. He's big enough to not be affected by that kinda stuff, though. 2. People get pissed about YouTube comments. If you delete bad ones, you'll get called out for "censorship." Some will even do it if you disable them from the get-go. I don't care that much because it gives me more poo poo to laugh at. See: Retsupurae Cobra 6 above.

Bringing back Nerd Cubed, he likewise disabled comments almost as soon as Google+ integration hit them. He got hit by the initial spam wave of "Bob and his tank" and other poo poo made by people taking advantage of the removed character limit and his attempts to stop it got ignored, so he just turned off all comments and now directs people to his Subreddit if they want to discuss his videos. The way he sees it, the YouTube comment section is a cesspool that provides little to his channel. I think the big theory is that keeping the discussion on a different website that has some level of user moderation (through the downvoting system hiding bad or spam comments) and requires a separate account means that spam and trolling requires more effort than just scrolling down, bashing the keyboard, and clicking.

It may be needed if your viewers are toxic, or going hogwild with all kinds of spoilers/backseat gaming. Really depends on the community/game.

ElTipejoLoco posted:I think it affects overall video views when the comments devolve into huge shouting contests, because most of the views end up being people revisiting terrible conversations to get the last word in. Which may or may not become word of mouth when they go and complain about said exchanges off-site and unintentionally direct more traffic to the video. I dunno, with Google+, if that applies anymore. You can click on the bell thing to be linked to comment threads you've made/posted in, and respond from there without clicking on the video again. Unless that counts as a view somehow.

I would've thought up would carry more weight, but I don't know the specifics, only that downs do contribute positively.
