Are combat oriented. How does Neverwinter Online handle this sort of thing? Isn't that game meant to be "big open ground MMO zone" style play? And it's basically the same engine.

Yeah, it's really kind of a shame. Graphically, NWO is a big step up from STO, especially in lighting and textures. It's just that the character design is absolutely hideous (not even in the "kind of an acquired taste" way that STO/ChampO) and the gameplay is a massive step back towards kMMO-style bullshit.

Never winter actually went full in on the faux action game play while cryptic in its infinite wisdom went halfway so while a third person shooter angle is more interesting outside of a handful of weapons you need to do rpg mode or you are crippling yourself.

When I asked which side I should join earlier I was more wondering which side is more active when playing with goons. I am guessing if I joined klingon I wouldn't be able to fly federation ships?

As a Rom at max rank you can only fly Rom ships anyway so that doesn't matter, it's only the lower tier fed/kdf ships you can fly which you won't be doing. In terms of activeness most PvE content is run with mixed teams so again, doesn't matter.

Klankroms have all the upsides of klingons (a bunch of dilithium-granting dailies, way better duty officer selections, better fleet gear options, etc) and almost none of the downsides (mostly just longer fleet alert queues and higher duty officer costs on the exchange). The klankrom uniforms are way better than the fedrom equivalents too.

You only get access to pre-endgame fed/klank ships, and that's mostly to pad out the selection and get access to the c-store consoles. Is there anywhere I can view the uniforms? I actually already have a level 34 fed but I haven't played for so long I might as well be a complete newbie. What cloaked ships do I have available as a normal fed?

I have a feeling CBS would refuse to allow that because cloaking is a Bad Guy technology in Star Trek and thus only bad people need to cloak, which is dumb, but lots of things in Star Trek are dumb.

Yeah I'm pretty sure 'no cloaking except on canon cloaking Fed ships and okay the new semi-evil Vengeance-rip battlecruiser' is a CBS mandate. They should create some minor Fed gimmick instead.

I just noticed that they have no battle cloak either. Fun! I'm probably going to go klink with my romualt. Still feels dirty though! Can you still send stuff between characters if they are in different factions?

Sure. You need an account bank to transfer Sponsorship Tokens between characters, though. And probably the new Bind To Account items.

Yeah. Ish. Keep in mind, you can pay for anything in STO by earning Dilithium in-game and converting it to Zen, the real money currency. It's actually at a fairly reasonable rate. That said, for the account bank (and a few other bonuses) if you like the game the best thing to do you would be to subscribe for a single month. Once the month is up, you get to keep the account bank and a bunch of other subscription bonuses.

I did play when it was subscription based before so I may have that already? I'll have to check when I get home.

Anybody know if the Ghosts of the Jem'Hadar assignment chain is still available? I've been looking for a week for the first assignment. I'm also assuming it would appear in Cardassian space?

Some missions only spawn in specific sectors, and if I recall that one specifically starts from the exploration zones off Cardie space, not cardie space itself. It actually goes around a bit; I think the second step spawns on the DS9 map, and one or two of the last missions are in exploration sectors again. Be sure to double check the wiki anyway.

It's good if you want to accumulate fleet marks to convert to credits, but most of the time to do that you'll have to dump them into either someone's vanity fleet or a pubbie fleet as a donation. There are other (somehwhat) better ways to get fleet credits that don't involve that, but they're a bit more labor intensive.

BEGIN THE DILVALANCHE Normally I'd assume that Zen prices were going to spike after this weekend, but given that they're at 154 already I'm wondering if they've pre-spiked in anticipation.

Here's where I spend hours on end converting 25,000 marks to dil, 50 at a time. Then add in the doff projects for my contraband, and prisoners, and completing a few T5 reputations, and then finally voth implants/iso injections/borg thingies.

Duty officer stuff yes, crafting no. Well, run the basic 20h research projects I guess but don't actually worry about trying to make anything.

As Aleth said, just worry about Duty Officers, and get your rear end to 50 asap! I believe at Rear Admiral you can run some normal STFs. Which might not be bad to get some XP and learn the ropes before you do the Elite versions at 50.

Will do. There's so much stuff in this game and I haven't played an MMO since UO and then Lineage 2 after that. I get lost in minutiae pretty quick so it's good to know what to focus my poo poo on.

Also, if you can, focus on getting every Diplomacy mission avaiable (except for Purchase Turret missions or missions that require contraband). Diplomacy is by far the best Commendation to get fully levelled, the rest give little benefit and usually just a title and a handful of Doffs. But make sure you fill up your slots with duty missions every chance you can since they give XP and will help you level

Certain doff jobs that are part of chains can give ridiculous amounts of xp on a crit. First couple of missions of the Caitian chain award like 5k base skill points, for example.
