The only useful piece of advice I've ever seen posted on these forums is to put some toilet paper in the bowl to cushion your turds and prevent splashback. So, try that I guess.

It's too much trouble coming up with content to fill the void left by vertical videos that can't be cropped to 16:9, so the laziest thing to do is just copy to the background, stretch or zoom, then drop a gaussian blur on it. Usually it's fine but what really throws me off is when news show will have their normal fill-the-screen backgrounds with an insert for 16:9 video, then they show a 16:9 with that blur around a vertical video in it because the clip already had it and they're too lazy to crop it back down.
