Watching punks doc for the first time and the opening bit about how he can't make the business better for the future sitting on his couch in Chicago is equally sad and funny. And maybe it's because I'm not such a huge fan of punk as lots of people are but punk comes across badly in a good amount of parts.

Like they said they couldn't use this bit of music he wanted, he'd say well I guess the DVD's not happening then and suddenly they'd be able to use the music.

Punk is a dick, but he's a very intelligent, talented one. After it came out that he was the guy who was mad about the Rock doing limited dates, and some of his behavior afterward, I got the impression that his head had disappeared up his own rear end on a few issues, though. There are clearly people backstage who do not like him at all, some for what I'm sure are good reasons, but gently caress the people who still can't figure out that smaller wrestlers can get over and make money 20 years after Shawn Michaels got his big break.

Professor Funk posted:Austin's heel turn left a power vacuum on the face side of things and no one could fulfill that role. The other thing was that the heel turn happened in front of the worst imaginable crowd. Houston would have cheered Austin if he had decapitated, flayed, roasted and eaten a newborn baby in the middle of the ring, and their incredibly confused reaction was less "oh, poo poo, Austin is bad?" and more "oh, is Vince a good guy now?" That muddled reaction set the tone for the rest of the heel run.

And I can say I stopped watching wrestling after WM X-7. I already went through the huge heel turn with Hogan in WCW, and later even DDP turned heel for bullshit reasons. Seeing Austin do the same thing was the last straw to me as a kid. If this was the kind of poo poo I was going to put up with when I watched wrestling, then I was done. I didn't pick things back up until 2007 when Hornswaggle was revealed as McMahon's bastard son, which was so batshit insane I had to get back on board to see where things had gone. And yet, here I am a decade and some change after X-7 waiting for Cena to finally do the same heel turn I hated so much.

The WWE's big man bias wouldn't be so bad if there were more serious competition. When the WCW was going strong the cruiserweight division was a nifty thing that distinguished it from the competition, but it fell prey to a similar size obsession, and so did TNA despite the X Division. The fact that the WWE is the only major player in the US makes their lack of real variety more of a problem than if there were more places for people who don't fit their mold to go.

Maybe it's because I started watching wrestling after Stone Cold got hit by the car and The Rock was the main face, but I loved Austin's heel turn. I thought it made sense, and heel Austin getting more batshit insane every week was great. I didn't quit until a while later, the brand extension stuff was duuuuuuuuuuumb.

Austin's turn made perfect sense from a storyline perspective, but not many people were sick of Austin as a babyface yet.

Yeah it was just too soon. I can see why internally they thought it might be time to change things up but for once they were too quick to change.

He's such a boot licker it's a wonder anyone thought he could be a face and get the rub from Ric Flair.

So if you sign up for the Network you're on the hook for 6 months, and when those 6 months are up if you forget to cancel are you then re-subbed and on the hook for another 6 months? I never thought about it that way, usually contracts go month-to-month when they expire.

Does anyone know how long it will probably take for the new wave of talent to start showing up on NXT? I don't watch it a ton but the idea of seeing all these guys that I've heard a lot about is really intriguing.

They're doing tapings this week (I think, could be next week) that will air Mid-August to Mid-September but I really doubt you'll see either of KENTA or Devitt on those. My hope is they're building to an early September NXT special, which would be the logical place to debut one or both of those guys.

WWE has already started assaulting my inbox with helpful reminders letting me know my network subscription expires in August. I feel like they must have separate email lists for wwe.com, wweshop.com, and wwenetwork because I always seem to get blasted with the same email multiple times. I plan to keep the network, but at this point they've been so liberal with the incentives that I see no reason to renew before it expires. I figure they'll start throwing out WWE Shop certificates soon once the first wave of cancellations hits.

So you have to renew in 6-month blocks? Has anyone just cancelled and not had any issue with it? I can't fathom they are sending out collection notices to someone who turns off auto-renew in month 5. I was going to dump it after Summerslam and come back for the Rumble but not sure how it works. The B level PPVs have sucked and the archives aren't as complete as I thought they'd be. Still like the idea of the network but not sure I want it as a 12-month purchase.

I just turned my auto-renew off. Not for any particular reason, I'm just not really into the product these days. If Night of Champions looks super amazing and must-see, maybe I'll resub right before it. But if it's just a Cena/Brock rematch, eh, I'll hold out until the Rumble to resub, since September-December is notoriously poo poo.

But yeah, they cancel the account if they can't payment for that month. They don't even attempt to enforce the six month commitment thing.
