I mean, as a medical professional (paramedic) everything short of the tongue poo poo is sound advice. We only look for arm drift, slurred speech, facial droop and grip strength. However, the Snopes article gets a few things wrong, but maybe it just needs to be updated. Point in case, they say tPA (Tissue plasminogen activator) needs to be administered within 3 hours, which is wrong. Ideally its supposed to be in the first hour, hence the term "golden hour" but recently, the area stroke/level 1 trauma center in my area that we transport patients to can administer tPA up to 6 hours after the onset of a stroke. Also, instead of 2 types of strokes, there are actually 3. The third is more or less a "mini-stroke" called a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). The person suffering will exhibit the signs/symptoms of a stroke, but those symptoms will resolve themselves. Most often within an hour or two. Only other thing I want to argue is the "2% of people reach the emergency room in time" statistic. I need to see the solid research on that, because in our area, I think the last assessment on strokes and STEMIs was somewhere around 70% got to the ED on time to receive tPA.

And it's only one of the things wrong with the picture, I just deal with coins (and precious metals) all the time so that bugged me moreso. Edit: And the picture decided on 5 quarters, which is one ounce (how convenient). So they probably didn't even do the actual melt value and just went by what an ounce of pure silver was at the time. Given how many rape victims were attacked by people they know, and probably in settings like the home, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the rapists used alcohol to make their victims more pliant. This could result in a lot of rape victims being drunk at the time, and it has no bearing on whether they are victims (they are) or any other aspect of rape.

EZipperelli posted:Ah, good work. I couldn't get it to pop up in my lovely IE. You know, I feel like a lot of the people making the argument "it's not rape if you regret the drunk sex" do understand that getting someone drunk in order to get them in bed is rape. It's just that they were raised on the idea that it's "ok rape" and now it's "their turn" to partake. It's because of the stereotype that college is a drunken gently caress fest and "by god I'm going to get my chance for an easy lay and you're not taking that from me".

I don't know how it is everywhere but fortunately some places have laws to the effect of "if the person is somehow too disabled to be able to give consent it is automatically rape." I'm going to go ahead and guess that 70+% of rapes involve alcohol is a bullshit statistic, but yeah, if a person is too drunk to say "no" then sorry, it's a rape.

Someone clearly doesn't know poo poo about growing up in the 90s. Us girls wore tartan skirts, yes, but they were still skimpy AND we wore them with belly shirts. Punks have been one of the ultimate outcasts up until Avril Lavigne made the look a fashion statement popular with preteen suburbanite girls. And everyone wore thick black eyeliner to broadcast how loving unhappy they were. Someone is so disillusioned with the 90s, it's fuckin hilarious. People were themselves, but they weren't loving happy.

Just catching up on this thread (I was over 700 posts behind. Stupid moving). The fact that someone longs for lovely bands like Green Day, Blink 182, and New Found Glory over Bieber and whatnot just means they think their older sibling's lovely taste in music is cool. And I can assure that moron that being in High School during the heyday of Blink 182 and Green Day (1999-2002) everyone was concerned with getting laid and staying out late to do dumb poo poo like trespassing and scoring weed, and that the fashion was just as revealing. And jesus, I thought I felt old before, but the fact that someone is yearning for some of the worst days of popular culture of my youth makes me feel way worse. Strokes- I was having serious neurological issues and went to the VA ER. After sitting for nearly ten hours and not seeing a Doc, I bailed. 6 months later after seeing various Specialists and what not and not being told poo poo, my Primary Care asked why I wasn't in the TBI program, seeing as they found loving brain damage. No one in the VA told me I had loving brain damage that affected my everyday life, even though they had known for several months. The VA makes me dread the prospect of an American socialized medical program. I mean something has to be done to fix our healthcare system, but the idea of a government run healthcare program for everyone is terrifying.

But I agree with you about the stupid nostalgia, sadly it's just a fact of getting older than our high school years become some younger generation's misguided view of a 'perfect before time'.
