It's cool: the only new thing that needs to be updated is phantoms! I won last night's magic event and I used the store credit to get one of those large battle mats. I'm glad they had a basic star field pattern because the versions with wizard van nebula designs or the Death Star are too busy and confusing.

Wave 4 has shaken the meta from being 4-ship Rebels, TIE swarms, and 2-3 large ship builds and not much else. Elite 3 ship high PS builds are growing, Imperials have small craft worth running outside Fighters and Interceptors finally, and Rebels got cheap filler ships and will soon be getting cards to massively buff A-Wings.

Eh, an OP doesn't really need to be kept up to date with too much competitive/tournament talk, maybe just some recommended lists for people to try / that are popular, and you can pretty much just pull those off some tournament reports on the official forums or coverage elsewhere. I'd be glad to put together an OP for this myself if everyone thinks a new one is (over)due. My other TG thread doesn't get much love so this would be fun. It looks like the current OP hasn't posted in this thread in over a year, so probably appropriate to force the torch passing.

So I take it that it's entirely within the rules to say '0' for C3PO's ability so you're guaranteed one evade? When I first looked at the card I thought it was a cool gimmick, but always getting one evade is pretty drat good.

Yup, you can basically ensure 1 evade always, and try for 2 if you are gonna die if you don't get 2.

I did not know the medals and promo cards were even worth anything. I have a few summer medals which go for $15. Three Biggs at $15, 3 wedge for $20, couple $20 Luke, and the maneuver template sets for like $100. At this rate I will never have to pay for any future x-wing models again!

It's probably not better than VI, but I think it would be good. Edit: also there's an argument about what happens with navigator. Choose speed 3 action, change to whatever with Stay On Target. Use navigator to drop to speed 1-2. Does the speed 3 action turn red, or the one you take from Navigator?

Heatwizard posted:Does Echo really want that? Advanced Cloaking is an action. Echo with a cloak already has six ways to change his path. You would have to really gently caress up to not have one of six work out. Not to mention taking a stress on a phantom is a way way bigger deal than on any other ship. I dont think iv ever seriously k-turned with a phantom. No way I would ever take this over using VI for the simple reason of any other phantom with VI would work you over hard.

Just reread the cards and I actually think you couldn't use both. They both trigger when you reveal a maneuver and then restrict what maneuver you select based on the maneuver revealed, so if I reveal a 3 left bank, both trigger, Stay On Target says I may rotate to another 3 maneuver, Navigator says I may rotate to another left bank maneuver. If I use both, I now have to select a 3 left bank. Can't trigger them off the maneuver rotated to, because it's never 'revealed' since it was never hidden.

True, it's FAQ'd, which I would guess means Stay On Target will be similarly FAQ'd, but will end up as a red maneuver. Little to powerful without that stipulation.

Thanks for all the advice for the previous question - however, I ended up buying off a friend who wanted to get out of X wing, so I've ended up with quite a weird setup. I have: One A-wing One E wing One Y wing One X wing Vs Two TIE defenders One TIE interceptor Two TIE fighters With the base set plus the requisite expansions. I'm looking for a fair and balanced beginners setup with these ships - any ideas? I've come up with: Prototype Pilot — A-Wing 17 Knave Squadron Pilot — E-Wing 27 Advanced Sensors 3 Gold Squadron Pilot — Y-Wing 18 Ion Cannon Turret 5 R2 Astromech 1 Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25 R2-D2 4 VS Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35 Predator 3 Delta Squadron Pilot — TIE Defender 30 Academy Pilot — TIE Fighter 12 Avenger Squadron Pilot — TIE Interceptor 20 But I'm sure there's something better...

Yay I just won my first tournament, got an alt-art Biggs, plus acrylic proton bomb and proximity mine tokens. And a sweet X-wing medal to go...somewhere. I flew: 2x Bounty Hunter 2x Black Sqd TIE + Predator at 100 pts. First round was up against Biggs/Ibitsam/Ten Numb. Went 100-50, got sloppy towards the end and probably could have saved that TIE. Second round was up against Han/Biggs. This was a new guy and I felt kinda bad going 100-0 on him...he let the TIEs get into range 1 on Han and didn't return fire on them, focusing on trying to get a Bounty Hunter off the board instead. Third round was up against 2xRookie/1xBlue/3xBandit. This was a nailbiter--I took out a Z the first combat, then successfully led his ships through the asteroids and caused him to lose a few attacks and a lot of actions. Probably the most on-my-game I've ever been, piloting-wise. Eventually won 100-33. They only did 3 rounds for the tournament (not enough for 15 people IMO), but I think I could have taken my likely 4th round opponent had there been one, who was running Vader/Jonus/2xScimitar.

Arrgytehpirate posted:Are there any crew/upgrade type cards in the Rebel Transport and whatever the other capital ship is that make them worth the buy if I have no interested in epic play? On their own? Not really, no. C-3PO is interesting but comes with the much more expensive Tantive IV. He's nice to have, but not that nice. Both ships come with a bunch of modifications, hardpoints, cargo and other stuff that can only be used on huge ships as well as a number of crew cards that manipulate energy, which of course smaller ships don't have. So what you're left with for other ships are: C-3PO (3 pt) — When defending, guess how many dodges you will get. If you guess right, you get an automatic dodge. Carlist Rieekan (3pt) — Discard to treat all friendly pilots as if they had PS 12 during the activation phase. Han Solo (2pt) — You may spend your target lock to change all eyes to a hit when attacking a locked-on target. Jan Dodonna (6pt) — A friendly ship within range 1 may change one hit result on its attack roll to a crit. Leia Organa (4pt) — Discard to let all friendly pilots treat red manoeuvres as white until the end of the turn. R2-D2 (4pt) — At the end of the end phase, regain 1 shield if you have none, but roll one attack die — a hit means you turn one of your damage cards face-up and resolve it. Raymus Antilles (6pt) — Pick one enemy ship at range 1–3 and look at its manoeuver dial. If it shows a white manouevre, the enemy gets a stress token.

You know what else does that? Focus. Han Solo as a crewmember is extremely situational for the times where you have a target lock and no focus and you need to spend that TL *now* for less potential but more likely hits than spending it for more potential but slightly less likely hits. If you have a way to get both focus and target lock, he is pretty niche and not useful.
