Are sharing stories about just generally depressing social media things. Lately a friend of mine has just been out of control with posting Anti-Feminist/Anti-Women rants culminating in posting a link to Return of Kings describing about how the website 'nailed it.' A website, I found out, contains such choice quotes as "I often hear women do not report rapes right away because they are ashamed or humiliated to report that it ever happened. This is pure bullshit." I considered pointing out to him that he's posted a link to a rather vile website, but I imagine my cries would just fall on deaf ears as he has in the past used the term 'beta male' ironically. It's sad to see someone I once considered a close friend go kind of off the deep end into complete insanity.

This person is far enough down that path that he's only going to bring a lot of really hateful things into your view if you keep him around and honestly it's not worth it. I have a 1 strike policy on hiding people who share posts from "Conservative Daily" "Tea Party" or "The Blaze" because trying to push back against this constant wave of sexism/racism/straight up idiocy is too tiring. I have to deal with it enough in real life, it's nice to be able to control it online.

Is it no longer in vogue to claim rare mental disorders or medical conditions? That happened all the time on LiveJournal ages ago.

It helps avoid cognitive dissonance. It's hard to convince yourself in the long term that you have an obscure serious deadly illness because if you did you'd see a doctor but if you see a doctor you'll be told you don't actually have an exotic illness. But as long as gender is purely mental you can just declare yourself to be trigender or whatever and nobody can tell you otherwise or expect you to do anything further. Co-opting the trans movement's terminology also gets you oppression points, which gives you an enjoyable rush and is socially important on tumblr.
