Wouldn't most MMO players know about Kirito by this point? Wasn't the SAO thing like a major news event and something most gamers and would be aware about? Edit: Totally called the Laughing Coffin poo poo. I suppose this is the leader of the guild? Interesting how he managed to sneak up on a guy who could hear a dude combat crawling like 50 yards away. Fantastic writing right there He was visibly hesitant to enter the info in anyway. As tempted by the prize as he was, if it wasn't an IRL one he would lose it as soon as he transfers back to ALO. At least stuff's finally happening in the anime though, but there's only about 4-5 episodes' worth of content left of this arc so they might have to slam on the breaks again to make it last for 12 episodes.

They made a big deal about the dubious real money economy. You have to assume, therefore, that the prize for BoB includes a pile of real cash. Hence almost no one would skip putting in their RL info, since doing so would invalidate your ability to score the cash. Likely only Kirito and Death Gun left those spaces blank.

Considering skeevy government guys involvement, the special school they set up for the survivors, the medical treatment and facilities running over the course of those three years, and how damaging some of the darker details coming out would be to the major corps behind this technology, I kinda figure the survivors ended up in pretty ridiculous NDAs or something along those lines and have probably been hushed up. Consider a game like GGO with the real money attribute, not to mention the dozens of other games that sprung up after the fact, and the nervgear and all as well; there's obviously ridiculous amounts of money to be made there and being made, and the people at the top are going to protect that. Allowing leaks about how people got trapped in the game thanks to it's designer and were murdered virtually which resulted in them dying in real life would have absolutely insane backlash.

Also, the players know of a Kirito, but they don't know his real name. The only reason Kirito found Asuna was because that government guy gave her information. The only people who know that Kazuto is Kirito are his group of friends/cousin. That's also why, the Death Gun guy was asking "Are you the real one" when referring to Kirito, wondering if this character was just someone trading on the Kirito Name or the actual Kirito. Plus, Very few people know what happened at the end of SAO anyway. Unless they were in the final Battle, the players who stuck to towns and away from the game clearing raid groups probably don't know any more than what the government released. All they know of is rumors that probably got circulated.

Actually one of the ALO side stories mentions about this, it's the one involving Silica. Apparently the vast majority of the players just stayed in the starting town and never left it so the whole thing was a terrible ordeal of waiting for them. So of course they would rather have forgotten about that.

For whatever reasons, the light novel is pretty clear that Kirito and others were super secretive about their involvement with SAO. They basically never told anyone outside of family, close friends, and those they knew from SAO itself. Likewise, as we'll soon see in the upcoming episodes, there are other reasons Kirito kept this a secret. (Barely a LN spoiler)Dark things did happen in SAO -- better left forgotten. Regarding Asuna, she was one of the very few players that used her real name. In SAO, after they were married and had been together a while, they told each other their real names so they could find each other after the game ended. Kirito did get help finding her, but note how lots of them are together in RL now too. The weird thing is they had fake names but real faces. So, it's quite possible to recognize someone from SAO but not know their real name.

Don't forget that only about 20 or so people were there for the final battle. Outside of that room, nobody would know how the game was cleared. Anyway, this is another of those things that gets covered in the light novels yet gets skipped over by the anime. I would like to rant about some of those things, but I'll wait until the season is done.

I'm pleasantly surprised they didn't drag the qualifier battles into five separate episodes or something lazy like that. I haven't read the light novels (are there any decent translations? I'm new to this) but I'm hoping the main tournament won't last long either and I'll get to see more sides of GAO..
