So aside from this being a super-happy-wheelie-death-machine, what could be the potential problems on a bike this old with mileage this low? http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/mcy/4595760959.html I'm guessing it just came out of storage or something and from the background looks like it was taken in as a trade on a car maybe. Dried out seals? Varnished gas? I think the '99 and up Blackbirds were FI, so it might not be as much of a nightmare as carbs. edit: tires are probably OE, so they have to go.

Blackbirds aren't wheelie happy because they are pretty long wheelbase. They are like a Busa but without the aerodynamic styling. The Busa is more fun to ride because Honda can even make some 150hp sportbike a little boring feeling. The fuel injection isn't great in this era and a lot of guys prefer the carbs because of the smooth throttle response - especially shut/open transition. Price wise is actually fairly in line with what I've seen for them, a pretty underrated bike. I don't think the miles should scare you off assuming you test ride it and look it over before you buy it.

I feel like I've got a pretty good handle on the mechanics (linked brakes) and the FI stuff on the Blackbird since my current ride is a '98 VFR. And yeah, even with a Power Commander, the on-off throttle transitions can be pretty abrupt. Busas around here are either chromed out, extended swingarm, 240-series-tire "custom" jobs, or significantly more expensive. Interestingly there have been 2 Blackbirds that have popped up in my price range, so I'll take a look at both.

I owned 2 gen 5 VFRs so I'm familiar with the concerns of the early FI. I found the old power commander with the serial interface and a random slipon map worked great to control the surge. I also tried the pressure regulator fix on the other VFr and didn't find it helped as much. I don't recall the surge being as much of a problem on the blackbird I've ridden but it was a while back. I wouldn't let carbs or FI decide whether or not I buy a particular bird. I tend to be less afraid of carbs than some because I've had no real bad experiences with them *touches wood*.

https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/4593882299.html This looks like a drat good deal in the DMV area, as long as you don't care about it not being in pristine condition. Having upgraded suspension fixes like THE most annoying thing about pregen ninjettes.

Not a bad price, either. Although I've never had an issue with my ninjette's suspension.

http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/mcd/4619458907.html Here's a redditor selling his Ducati. craigslist posted:She knew that historic sound from a mile away. That hot, pulsing, throbbing beat that makes a uptown New York Club DJ dizzy with envy. She felt her knees getting weak as the pounding in her heart began to increase as the thumping dual under-tail shotgun exhaust vibrated and roared into her space. Involuntarily, she cupped her breast, enhancing the feel of the raw power exuding a passion like nothing else with a motor. Pure muscle, packaged in a tight, efficient, oh-my-god is that sexy, beautifully racy body that makes you immediately hard, or in her case, thoroughly wet with desire. Ripped like an Italian stallion with a thoroughly evolved thoroughbred L-twin, it moved through the streets with a fluidity matched only by the sleek movements of a snake on fire. From the iconic and trend setting front end to the super sexy solo rear-end, it's literally eroticism on wheels. Coming in tight right in front of her, the rider squeezes the unbelievably strong brakes and idles next to her. She looks the rider in the eyes and smiles her devilishly wicked "I-want-you-now" smile. The rider, viewing her unbelievably erect nipples through her leather jacket has no choice but to give into her wants. He saunters off as she slips her legs over the rider seat. Engaging the shifter into first, seductively gunning the motor, letting the authentic dry clutch moan oh so sensually, and then thrusting out a horn mono as she sighs deeply with delight, the red exotica sweeps out under the cover of darkness and into wild ecstasy. Anyone save that hilarious ad that was posted a while ago? All contradictions the whole way through like "never raced, raced 13 times and podiumed twice, never down, rash from lowside, fresh oil, oil is was changed 5,000 miles ago" blah blah something like that in a big run-on sentence. In return, something in the same vein:

I don't remember that one, but I saw one on the LA craigslist a while back that was someone's Ewan McGregor special R1200GS with every possible farkle and bag and official BMW addon and the guy kept gushing on and on about how "this is the greatest bike in the world, I love this bike so much, I hate having to give it up, this bike can take you anywhere, it's so hard for me to let this go," blah blah blah, 937 miles.

A lot of times it's people who don't realize how tall and heavy these ADV bikes are, and get something smaller/lighter. And in all fairness to them, the size and weight can be pretty intimidating first. Or people who drop all the money, THEN take the MSF and realize they don't actually like motorcycles. I can't complain, it keeps the used market healthy with pre-vajazzled bikes so you can always buy their accessories at a discount.

Koruthaiolos posted:Anybody know what to look out for on an '07 KTM 690SM? There's one listed on ADV for $4k not far from me: Very little. Known mechanical issues-wise: There was a reluctor ring recall, I'd see if that's been done (if the bike even applies, it might have just been some bikes). A few people have had issues with some batches of the pre-09 valve rockers getting scored rollers, myself included, but it's easy to fix if they have started to go. If it's been used for a lot of short trips the hydraulic cam chain tensioner may be unhappy, and prone to collapse. You can get a manual one like I did. Running issues-wise: Ask if it has any issues with stalling and such, if they've fixed it and if so what they did. The ad doesn't really list what's been done to the bike but it's obviously got a new can fitted (a nice single side one too) - so make sure it's been mapped right. Even so, not anything near a deal breaker, it's a $30 USB adapter, a laptop and 30 minutes away from you sorting it properly. The fairings are ABS and really inexpensive, you could sort out those fairings with the stock tool bag and a spare 15 minutes. I'd be making sure the forks aren't twisted in the triples from the crashes it's had. Other than that make sure it's had regular oil changes and whatever, the usual stuff. They're very solid bikes. In short, that's a screaming deal for a bike with those miles, buy buy buy. Make sure the owner hands over the bottle opener
