Extra workers who aren't assigned to a specific task (hunter, trapper) gather wood every 10 ticks as well - one per worker.

No spoilers because this literally happens like 5 minutes in

Is this really the best graphical quality an iPad Air is capable of? Is the problem just a lack of GPU horsepower or is it Apple's app size restrictions necessitating radically downscaled textures? Infinity Blade 3 and other console-specific stuff manages to look far better.

edit: Bioshock's system reqs for PCs calls for 8 gigs, Apple's got a 2 gig limit on app size. So there's that.

The Air can certainly do better, but they want it to run on as many devices as possible.

In Starborn Anarkist, does anyone have some tips on how I can set up my ship to make it anything besides an absolute nightmare to control? By far the hardest part of the game is just the loose wiggly controls where I can't steer into the powerups (or out of the lasers) in time. Is it just how the game is and I have to deal w/it? If so, I may be done with it pretty quickly.

I bought the Protoss dude and he fuckin owns.

Pros: Does a shitload of damage and ignores armor.
Has a decent amount of hp and armor.
Does a rather incredible amount of AOE damage due to his skills. This damage can hit air units (despite him being melee), and will easily deal with a "first air wave" scenario if you're unprepared.
His best attribute is that he can OHKO up to three units at a time. This OHKO effect can hit units with 5000+ hp/huge armor and often lets you greed towards towers that are majority AOE (and lacking single target dps) cuz you can isolate the big dudes who need to die.

Cons:
Melee, I guess. He can die if you forget about him.

Everything about Infinity Blade was custom made to be as optimized as possible for iOS devices where Bioshock is being crammed on there years after the fact. They're probably doing the minimum amount of work required that's not them rebuilding vast swatches of the game because it'd lost likely be a huge undertaking.

Also Bioshock was built off of a highly customized version of Unreal Engine 2 which didn't have any mobile porting options. I know there was a Bioshock UE4 tech demo floating around a while back so I'm not sure if the mobile build was ported to a newer engine or what.

But yeah, it's easier to make things look nicer if you know going in what platforms you're targeting. Porting years later to a platform that didn't exist when the game was originally made is probably a bitch.

Nope! But your wing guns do hit targets not aligned with your hitbox so you can creep up to your targets.

You'll get used to that. You have to get a good vector to properly collect things, you can't last minute steer into things unless you have a really light ship or really upgraded engines. Also have fun getting used to the pivot point on some ships. It gets pretty wild.

Annoying thing about Starborn Anarkist is the power-up system. You have to collect a million of the drat things to make your pew-pew, missiles, or laser do decent damage. Oh, oops! You accidentally flew into a different weapon power-up? Start over with that weapon. Dammit.

You do get used to the controls. Once you collect a few extra engines, slap em' on the sides of your ship to improve the turning radius.

Protip that may be obvious to some but took me a minute to figure out: in instances where the garage undo button doesn't remove a part for you, you can touch the part and then touch the left side of the screen to put it back (not sure if dragging works).

Your thrust vector is always straight ahead, just having more engines increases thrust. Your ship rotates on a pivot. There is no turning radius, you just point and add thrust to change your course.

You could have your engines pointing backwards in a gap in the middle of your ship and it'll still work.

It's like a combination of Hero Academy, and Card Hunter kind of, and the IAP is done right (a single purchase of any booster packs removes ads forever).

The iPad Air GPU is probably getting quite close in raw power to the computer GPUs we had when Bioshock 1 came out, for instance I played it on a Radeon X1600 Mobility on my RevA CrapBookPro.

The main differences that come to mind are:
-They want it to run acceptably on other lesser iPads
-The iPad Air still has less RAM available to apps than computers of that era
-BUT the iPad Air has a much much higher screen resolution which presumably they want to render to natively
-The app size limit means they have to compress the hell out of all the textures
